37 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/01/2008

2007 (pre and post) have rear tail light assembles that work intermittently. Jeep replaces(for approximately $200) broken taillight assemblies with new units having the same defect. Their design happens to fail around the 30,000 mile point (by intention?). Jeep will not return broken parts when requested for inspection (they don't want these reaching your office). Light bulbs are not the issue. This known Jeep defect keeping their assembly line running at the expense/risk to Jeep occupants or any vehicle following a full size Jeep. Plus they are making money while endangering others. Do the statistics of Jeeps show they are rear-ended more often? how convenient if this is the case and the evidence is damaged in the accident. Look on-line for the dialog or just look at Jeeps on the road and you'll see a brake or tail light out in a much higher percentage than any other vehicle. I notice an after market light assembly was recalled (std. 108), no amber light. How about a recall for a light that may or may not work at any given moment? which is worse?.

38 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/15/2007

In 2007, my rear tail lights stopped working. They would not work if the head lights were turned on. However if the head lights were off the rear tail lights were working. There is no warning light that informs you of this failure and so it was not until I was stopped by the police that I was even aware of the problem. I got the rear lights replaced, not knowing then that this was a common problem. However, now three years later, the lights have failed again. Same exact problem. No warning lights, it just so happened a family member saw that my lights were out. The replacement parts are expensive and obviously this is a common problem known by Jeep/Chrysler.

39 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2007

I recently purchased a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and noticed the right tail light was out. It was repaired and then went out again recently. It is not the bulb! my father also has a Jeep Grand Cherokee and he too has a tail light that doesn't work on a consistent basis. I have since begun to notice that there are many other Jeeps with driving around with tail lights out. I am wondering if it is some kind of manufacturing flaw in the light or the wiring system. I would greatly appreciate your assistance in researching the matter. I am afraid I am going to get a ticket for a problem that I believe to be fixed when the thing goes out again.

40 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/18/2007

The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the tail lights became inoperable without warning. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the rear light system was replaced multiple times, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.

41 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/01/2007

Door actuator, overheating, transmissions slippage (or not wanting to shift at times), tail lights, cooling, heating (or lack of).

42 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/09/2005

Both tail light assemblies stopped working and was cited by a police officer. Replacement was ~$500. Rear lift gate lock actuator is broken, so cannot open lift gate. Right rear door lock will not allow opening from inside. Shift sensor/solenoid has gone bad twice leading to problems with shifting from gears (revs really high before shifting). Rotors are constantly becoming warped and brakes have to be readjusted. Left blinker no longer works and to fix it, the dealership told me they have to replace this entire engine block for about $800. Power window lock no longer works. Other than that, car runs great :).

43 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/10/2002

I am the owner of a 2000 Jeep cherokee grand laredo and every since I bought this truck the brake lights/ tail lights haven't worked properly. I have replaced the bulbs several time but they continue to not work. I contacted the local dealership and I was told there isn't a recall on them and if I wanted to get them fixed it would be out of my pocket. I have yet to see a Jeep around town that had all the lights, brake or tail lights working.
