1 Ball Joint problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2020

Son was driving home when the driver side wheel came off, in mid turn-. On a public road, about to turn onto the interstate. Luckily, wasn't going 65. The car had to be towed. Our mechanic said the ball joint broke loose, bending the axle as well, damaging the wheel and tire. There has been a recall of this nature, but said it didn't apply to this VIN. I am totally convinced it must be defective as well. This could have been a deadly accident. I am begging for this to be investigated.

15 Ball Joint problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2009

On 08/03/09, I had my 2003 Jeep Liberty towed to my local 5-star Chrysler dealer (mileage = 148520). The right front ball joint had broken while I was making a turn in the parking lot. The tow truck driver had to pull my vehicle up onto the flatbed, as it was not possible to drive it, not even a few inches. During the loading of my vehicle onto the flatbed of the tow truck, the right front axle had come apart from the wheel. The service department had completed the necessary work to put my vehicle back together and indicated that it was all taken care of under the recall that was in the system. I had not known about the 2nd recall. I took my vehicle to the dealer for an oil change & courtesy vehicle inspection on 10/07/09 (mileage = 151838). The courtesy inspection indicated that the "suspension/steering" was "checked and ok. " on 12/23/09, I took my vehicle to the dealer for an oil change & courtesy vehicle inspection (mileage = 158083), and I indicated that the right front wheel had begun making a weird noise again. I was told that it was it was fairly common, especially if the housing got wet inside. The courtesy inspection indicated that the "suspension/steering" was "checked and ok. " on 03/19/10, I had my vehicle towed to the dealer (mileage = 161533) because it felt like I had a flat tire while I was driving, although there was nothing wrong with the tires. It ended up that the right front axle had to be replaced. At first I was told the damage was due to "normal wear & tear" and "high mileage. " as they began looking at it more closely, they commented that they had not seen one this badly damaged. It was repaired & ready for pick up on 03/31/10. I am in the process of finding out more information on the right front suspension issues because I do not see how after all the "inspections," it went from being "ok" to being told that they had not had one come in that was that badly damaged.

The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign id numbers 06v288000 and 03v460000. The vehicle has not been repaired. 19 Ball Joint problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2006

While driving down a road, the ball joint on the front driver's side broke making the vehicle undriveable and tearing up my wheel. Luckily, my son was able to get the vehicle off the main road and call for help. This vehicle was a 2003 Jeep Liberty sport which I bought in October, 2005. This incident left me without transportation to work due to the uncooperative staff at the dealership and the main Jeep consumer office. The garage hauled the vehicle to repair but insisted only repairing the joint that had broke. When I asked for a number to contact the main Jeep company, I was told this dealership had no such number. I feel this was a lie because the next day I was able to acquire a number from another dealership in our area. I have requested both bottom ball joints be replaced but so far have been denied. I am trying to protect my family from having a serious accident and feel extremely fortunate that it has not already happened.

21 Ball Joint problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2003

I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty. I am having a ball joint problem with my Jeep by daimler Chrysler similar to the Dodge. I purchased my Jeep (new) in January of 2003. I began hearing a "scrubbing" noise from the front of my vehicle in approx April 2003. I took it to a dealer near maxwell afb, alabama; they stated that because of recent rain something may have been wet/ moist. I continued with my trip back to DC. I didn't really notice the noise anymore. Approx middle October I had a flat tire (front passenger). It was replaced by aaa contractor & fixed by a tire dealer. When I inquired what went wrong, they didn't/couldn't find anything. On October 31, 2003 I took my truck to be serviced at a alexandria, virginia Jeep dealer for a 22,000 mile service (preventative care). So I dished out approx 270. 00 for this service. Two days later I noticed a "scrubbing" noise again. This time it was louder and was horrible! I visited the va Jeep dealer furious that they just serviced my truck & I started hearing the noise. I was told that my front ball joint needed to be replaced, it just was a bad part and it was covered under warranty. I received a call the next day that the part was in but wasn't able to bring it in until two approx weeks later. The service tech assured my the truck was safe to drive but try to get the part replaced soon. I began to notice the truck pulling to the right & steering wheel violently shaking. The dealer don't provide loaner cars and I work on military base, I still couldn't get to work. At this point I blamed the dealer for my inconvenience. They put the part on December 10. They told my that it was recalled since the last time I had been in. The noise had stopped but not the shaking of the wheel and the pulling to the right. I returned my car to the service department (December 16). They performed a front end alignment. Today is December 19 and my truck is still shaking and pulling to the right. I am available for contact if necessary.
