1 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2018

While filling up the gas tank, the pump automatic shut off is triggered several times before the tank is full and as a result, gas ends up spewing back out of the tank runs down the side of the vehicle to the ground creating a potential fire hazard. It seems like the gas tank is unable to vent the air out quickly enough so the gas comes back out of the tank fill tube.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2018

Gas tank overflows when filling up gas.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2017

When fueling vehicle as it finishes filling the gas tank it will spew gas out and over the side of the vehicle.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2015

While dispensing fuel into the vehicle at a filling station the fuel gushes from the fill port prior to the tank being full. The fuel continues to come out for a few second after the fuel dispensing is stopped. This is completely un safe, wasteful and creates an emissions issue at every fill up.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

When filling the gas tank the gas pump shuts off but the gas is already pouring out of the vehicle the vehicle doesn't shut off and it over fills the gas and it runs down the side of the vehicle. We bought this second hand and not sure if there was every a recall on it?.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2015

We received the notice about the gas/fuel tank potential to catch fire, we took our vehicle to the dealer. The dealer explained that we have too much corrosion on our vehicle to be repaired. The cost to repair exceeds the value of the vehicle, currently we are still driving with a vehicle that may catch fire. We contacted Chrysler as we still are paying off the vehicle, we where given the run around until finally one associate told us simply, they will not help you. Prior to this recall notice we have constantly had issues when filling up with gas and the gas would leak out in large quantities instead of shutting off. We replaced the oil pan recently after it rusted out, we are about to replace to transmission fluid pan as that is about to rust out, the transmission lines are also rusting and corroded. Our Jeep may be an 05 but it looks as if its brand new rolling off the line, we take care of our vehicle. We are informed consumers and know there is a recall for Chrysler failing to fix the fuel tank explosion issues, when we looked up the VIN for our vehicle it was not showing that it is one of the one's being recalled. Our vehicle was not repaired and we should be included in this recall. We want to know if our vehicle will be included in the recall. We still have all the paperwork from visiting the dealer. When we took the vehicle up for the recall, the dealership told us that Jeep has issues with rust to begin with and that it is a known issue that has yet to be corrected.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that upon filling the fuel, there was a leak coming from the fuel tank. There was a strong odor of fumes inside and outside the vehicle due to the failure. The contact notified the authorized dealer several times and was waiting for a remedy to determine the repair. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 13v252000 fuel system, gasoline and structure) and stated that the part was not available. The dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available. The manufacturer was also contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the contacts vehicle would receive the recall repair. Dyd.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2014

A year ago, my fuel tank started to intermittently overflow a huge puddle of gas at the filling station when I filled up. Now it happens every time I fuel up. I took to the dealer Saturday and they said its a common problem among cherokees, but not Libertys and there is no recall for either vehicle. The problem is a valve clog in the fuel tank. The fix is an $1800 new fuel tank. That's not going to happen! this seems to be a dangerous problem given all the fires at gas stations recently. Every time I fill up I leave a large puddle of gas on the ground, all over my car and have to ride with the windows rolled down for first half hour after filling. Only affordable fix is to not fill, but that's next to impossible to gauge. Seems like you should look into this Jeep-wide (and I think Chrysler-wide) problem.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

On multipe occasions since buying the vehicle from a dealer in 2011, while filling up the gas tank the gas has not automatically shut off at the full point causing gas to flow onto the rear quarter panel, and on my hands and jeans. On multiple occasions I have had my duaghter in the vehicle who is still in a car seat and must be picked up and helped in and out of the vehicle. Cannot leave my daughter in the vehicle to wash fuel off my hands, and had to hlep her with gas on me. This has been reported many times and yet nothing has been done. Before even leaving the parking lot with new vehicle dealer took vehicle and filled up gass tank, I was never notified of overflow issues at the dealership, or when the dealer returned with the vehicle. I now slow the gas pump down to avoid the overflow but it still does it just not to the point of spraying upward towards my face.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

The vehicle consistently spills fuel upon filling the tank. Automatic shutoffs at gas stations do not prevent this from happening. It has happened at different gas stations in different states, so I do not believe it is caused by the gas station pumping system. Some spills have been up to 0. 5 gallons. In my opinion this presents a severe fire hazard.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

When filling the gas tank, the automatic pump shutoff does not work causing the gasoline to shoot out and all over the car and myself. This does not happen at just one gas station, but at all of them and has occurred repeatedly since buying the car last August.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2012

While filling fuel tank, fuel began to be spit out of the filler neck. Fuel dispenser had clicked and shut off fuel delivery when this occurred. This occurs every time the gas tank is filled. I doesn't matter whether the tank is filled slowly or fast. Since vehicle is out of warranty dealers refuse to do anything about this issue.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

Just like many other Jeep liberties, fuel spews out, when I am filling the tank up. It does not matter which station, or brand that I use. The pump shuts of, followed by about 1/4 to 1/2 gallon of fuel coming back out. This is dangerous to the environment, the body of the vehicle, and to me. I had the problem diagnosed at a local Chrysler dealership as the vehicle needing a new fuel tank. I contacted Chrysler this morning, and they said since there isn't a recall, they would not do anything to help me out. Since this is obviously a manufacturing defect, since so many people have the exact same problem, Chrysler should be fixing this problem, at their expense! I should not have to pay to fix Chrysler's mistakes.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

When filling the fuel tank, the pump does not automatically turn off. Resulting in fuel spraying all over operator, Jeep, and pavement. I have read many other similar complaints, is Chrysler going to step-up and recall this potentially dangerous problem before someone is seriously injured?.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2012

Filling up the fuel tank, the automatic fuel dispenser does not stop allowing fuel to spurt out. I lose about 1/4 -1/2 gallon every time. I slow fill to help alleviate, but it doesn't always work. Consistent fuel spills on the pavement and side of vehicle. Also gas smell inside vehicle after filling up.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

The automatic shut off for the gas tank stopped working and has not worked for 6 months. When I refill the gas tank - no matter which service station I fill it up at - it overflows, spilling onto the Jeep, my clothes, my shoes, etc. I try to guess when to stop filling it and sometime I guess correctly. . . Sometimes not. This is a serious safety issue - googling it reveals it is happening to many, many Jeep Liberty 2005 and 2006 owners but Chrysler won't do anything about it.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

See compliant NHTSA id number: 10616194. I am having the same problem. The gas station pump does not automatically stop when I am filling the tank. I have to estimate when the tank is full. Most times I am right other times it causes spills.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

When filling the gas tank, the fuel spews out of the tank instead of the pump shutting off. This happens at all filling stations and different types of fueling nozzles. The side of the car and my shoes and pants were covered in gas. The gas station bay was also covered in gas. This is extremely dangerous. Since the fuel pump warns about "re-entering a car" or "using a cell phone" around a gas pump; how dangerous is driving with clothing covered in gas, side of the car covered in gas and how dangerous is leaving a gas puddle at the station? Chrysler apparently is replacing some tanks or putting in an "extension" valve on some cars, but mine is not under their warranty. This is not only a fire hazard, but a health issue as well!.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

Fuel gas tanks overflows when filling at gas station. You can not just stick the nozzle in and let it fill normally. If you do so, gas will spill out which it is dangerous since a fire or explosion can occur easily. Manufacturer does not want to assume responsibility and says it is not covered by warranty.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

When filling the gas tank the fuel spews out and does not automatically shut off. This happens at different gas stations and started happening at approximately 50,000 miles.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2009

When filling the fuel tank, as the fuel level nears the fuel tank capacity the gasoline splashes out of the filler neck and spreads down the side of the Jeep Liberty and forms a large puddle on the pavement of the gas station. This large puddle of gas could cause a fire/explosion if ignited, thereby killing the occupant of this Jeep Liberty and other customers at the gas station. In addition to this if the large puddle of gasoline is not ignited, after about 10 minutes the spilled fuel has all evaporated into the atmosphere causing pollution to our atmosphere. I am concerned that I am violating epa emission laws.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

Gasoline spills out of the vehicle's fuel filler neck upon completion of a full tank refilling. Initially, this seemed to occur intermittently without regard to gas station or particular fuel pump. Now at 114,000 miles, this happens at every fill up.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2008

When I fill with gas the tank over flows, splashing out gas from the filler neck. This happens either way on automatic or manual filling. This has continued to happen since 2008.
