Every time I get gas, the Liberty cannot tell when to stop the pump from pumping gas. Gas ends up overflowing down the side of the car, on the ground and even sometimes on me. This is a dangerous situation.
Every time we put gas in our 2005 Jeep Liberty the pump doesn't stop and gas overflows onto the ground and onto the paint. This seems to be a common problem, is there a recall or something that can be done?.

Every time the vehicle is refueled, it does not shut off as it should and gas pours out and all over the ground and down the side of the vehicle. Several times it has been so bad that employees of the gas station had to intervene. This is a fire hazard, as well as a environmental problem.
Nhtsa recall number 13v-252. Chrysler/Jeep has never contacted me in reference to this recall. Which seems to be very serious since it appears passengers in my vehicle and myself could be killed due to this defect. Another example of Jeep not caring about their customers. Once they get their money they don't know you. I am the only owner of the vehicle and I have not moved so there is no excuse for not contacting me. I am sure they will lie and say they did. If they had I would have had the work done since it involves life and death. All about the bottom line and not caring about people. I would prefer they send me the materials to repair the problem and I will have my mechanic take care of the issue. When I had Jeep repair a defective window regulator now that door does not work. I want it done right so have them send me the parts needed 115 avenue c, sch. Haven, PA 17972.

Fuel overflow when filling up, spills gas everywhere.
When ever I fuel this vehicle up fuel spills out wither in an automatic shutoff mode (there's a lot that spills like this) or doing it manually as slowly as pump will allow. I am fearful of a fire or explosion during this process. I looked up on line and in some of the Jeep forums this seems to a thing the 2005 Jeep Liberty does. . Read more...

At approx 8:00 on the morning of 2/16/15 my 2005 Jeep Liberty, 3. 8l v-6 with automatic transmission began to accelerate out of control while braking for a stop sign. The engine was cold, I had just started it and the temperature was in the mid to upper 50s. I was traveling about 27 mph, and began to slow for the stop. At about 10-15 mph, I noticed the car was no longer slowing down. It seemed as though the brakes stopped working. At the same time, the engine briefly revved on its own. This made the car accelerate. I could not stop at the stop sign and the car accelerated into 50 mph cross traffic. I made a hard right turn to bring the car next to the curb, allowing room for traffic to go by. At the same time, I put the transmission into neutral and that allowed the car to stop. I then put the car into park and revved the engine. It seemed to respond normally at that point (engine would return to idle immediately after taking my foot off the gas). After shifting between part to drive, then reverse, etc. Several times, it still seemed to work normally so I continued to work with no further problems. It seemed as though while coming to a stop, the transmission did not down shift or disengage. As the engine rpms were reduced below idle due to the car slowing, the computer control system tried to bring the engine speed back up, causing it to accelerate. A couple of facts - the car has approx. 159,800 miles on the odometer. I purchased it used a few months ago and have put 13,000 miles on it. When I purchased it I had it examined by a mechanic and had all the hoses, belts, etc. Replaced. I've had the oil changed at about 5,000 mile intervals. I drive with one foot only, I don't use separate feet for the gas and the brake. The floor mat was not moved before or after this incident, and is not close to the gas pedal. Check engine light did not come on.

I have received 3 of the same recall notices (n46 / NHTSA 13v-252) from Chrysler dating back to 3/2014. I have followed the notice's directions by contacting two of my local dealers to obtain parts and service. Each time I call (usually every 2 weeks), I am told that parts are not available yet and to keep checking back. I believe that this resolution is taking more than a "reasonable amount of time" as it is now almost October. I am trying to be patient, but if this defect was important enough to trigger a recall, it's important enough for Chrysler to make these parts available ASAP. My family's safety is very important to me and I feel like Chrysler is abandoning their customers and dealers.
