36 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2010

I have had to replace window regulator and window two times. (once on rear passenger window and one on rear driver side window) due to regulator failure. In both cases window slipped into the door. In both cases window and regulator were replaced. Old parts remained at the dealership repair shop.

37 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

2006 Jeep Liberty rear driver's side window free falls into door. This is the 2nd time this issue has occurred on the very same door. The first time, it was fixed by the dealer at no cost (mileage: 19000, Feb. , 2008). This time, after explaining that the problem was exactly the same as the first time, the dealer asked for $90 to diagnose the problem, which I found ridiculous. After a very brief internet search, I found that this is an extremely common problem, which makes it even more infuriating that the dealer wanted me to pay them to diagnose the problem. The dealer finally offered to make the repair for $100, which I declined. This is a clear safety issue, not to mention a security issue. When this happens when the car is in motion, it causes the driver to be distracted, which can -- and eventually will -- lead to an accident. On the security side, this issue can occur at any time, even when the vehicle is not being driven, which could lead to a window being open without the owner's knowledge. Chrysler and the government regulators need to start treating this like the safety issue that it is and issue a recall. It makes no sense that an owner should have to pay to have a clearly defective item replaced, especially when its going to be replaced with virtually the same part, which will eventually fail again.

38 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2010

Yesterday my drivers side rear window made a loud popping noise and the window fell down into the door. When I attempted to roll it back up it made a loud grinding noise. I am going to have to replace the power window assembly including the regulator and motor. This is the 3rd time I have had to replace one on this Jeep.

39 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2010

I had my 2006 Jeep Liberty in my driveway and looked out my bedroom window and noticed that my rear window was wide open in the rain!! I'm glad this didn't happen in a high crime area! anyway, brought it to the dealer the next day after wrapping plastic over it with duct tape and had it repaired under extended warranty (47,000k). The dealer said it was very common in that vehicle. I explained that I'm lucky it didn't happen on the highway with small children in the back seat. Two weeks later, the opposite rear window began to drop into the door well after hearing a popping sound which distracted me. This is clearly a safety issue and should be corrected by Chrysler. I would also like to get my $200 deductible reimbursed for this inconvenience. Thank you.

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

Multiple repeated failures of power windows, most recently left rear on or about 5/1/2010. We have had to have the same problem repaired on multiple occasions. Door fell into window when husband was being admitted to health south rehabilitation hospital two years ago, and neither dealership not extended warranty coverage would cover an emergency repair. We live at an altitude of over 8,000 feet and my husband has had surgeries for brain aneurysms and for lung cancer, which has left him in fragile health. We bought out Jeep Liberty after his surgeries because he liked the multiple passenger side handles on the renegade model. When a window fails to function properly, it is a major problem for an older man who is very sensitive to cold. This is a known problem that should be addressed by the manufacturer. Are we just waiting for a vulnerable person to pass away from exposure?.

41 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2010

The driver's side window in my 2006 Jeep Liberty fell down and will not go up. It was a safety hazard to drive the freeways (the only way for me to get home from los angeles) in the rain with a window that malfunctioned. The dealership already fixed this problem once, and twice is unacceptable.

42 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2010

Rear driver side window while closing (was only 1/4 open) loud noise then would not close or open with button. Had to push up manually to close, window would not stay closed. Kept sliding open. Took to dealer repaired regulator and had to replace window. Only owned car for approx. 1 month.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that the window regulators were defective and the windows opened involuntarily. The vehicle was repaired by an authorized dealer but the failure occurred again. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000 and the current mileage was approximately 70,000.

44 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2010

2006 Jeep Liberty power windows fail without warning dropping down inside doors due to faulty window regulators. I am currently having my 5th one replaced and Jeep has known of this issue 1000's have complained and Jeep has done nothing but take customers money to repair a known defect. Just a simple search of the web will find thousands of customers with the same problem.

45 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2010

2006 Jeep Liberty limited the passenger window regulators are constantly breaking and thus the window falls all the way down into the door(s). I have to drive with the broken window open or use tape or plastic bag to keep rain out when the weather is bad until I can get to the dealership. In the past 3 years since I have owned the car, I have had to bring in my car on 6 separate occasions for the same exact problem. All the previous replacements were done under warranty. Each door window, except for the driver's window has broken twice and today makes it three time for the rear left side passenger window. I feel the safety of my car in is jeopardy when the window is fully down and do not feel safe not being able to put it up when driving, especially at night. This model's windows and regulators have caused many people the same problem and this is a manufacturing defect according to this sites 175 complaints registered so far for this problem. Jeep should be required to replace these regulators for everyone for free for the life of the car unless they can manufacture a part that will not break within 8 months of installation. The dealer I go to states that the car is now out of warranty and that I must pay a $150 "CO-pay" to have it fixed as a "goodwill" cost covering of Jeep-Chrysler but this is unacceptable to pay for their shoddy design and parts that keep breaking.

Failure Date: 03/27/2010

Window regulators break with normal use. This has created a financial stress and safety issue. My doors will not open. I was informed by a dealership that door opening mechanism gets interfered with when the regulator breaks. They were able to get the windows to stay up, as I cannot afford the replacement. But both rear doors will not open from the inside, and the windows will not function.

Failure Date: 03/25/2010

Rear window on 2006 Jeep Liberty dropped down in door while traveling on highway. Website defects on 2006 Jeep Liberty shows many owners have had the same problem & still no recall from Chrysler. Does it take an accident before something is done?.

48 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2010

I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty, the front drivers window and the rear drivers window have both fallen while driving. I currently have them ty wrapped up. This is a temporary fix but also a serious safety concern as the driver would have a problem with egress in an accident. Chrysler will not address this issue, this is obviously a factory defect based on the amount of complaints, this needs some attention!.

49 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2010

I rolled down the rear drivers side window. When trying to get the window up the window fell inside the door. While this caused no immediate danger because we were not moving. This could be extremely dangerous for my children who are usually riding in the rear seat.

50 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2010

Left back window regular broke and window has fallen. Unable to roll up window during a sand storm resulting in child breathing in sand until we could seek shelter and interior of vehicle being covered in sand. This is the fourth window regular that I am having to replace in this vehicle. Filing a complaint at dealership request. They stated the windows were poorly designed and the late 2006 models the windows are replaced with a redesigned window at the owners expense.

51 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2010

We have had this 2006 Jeep Liberty for just over a year now and has been ok until now. The rear passenger window regulator took a $%!@. Took apart myself and found a broken plastic piece that connects to the drive cable. Thought I could find this small plastic part at the dealer and they said I had to by the whole regulator assembly for $244. Even better, while I was in line there was a lady in line for the same reason. That's when I found all kinds of complaints about this same reason on-line. This Jeep only has 42,000 miles and should not be having these problems this premature. If Chrysler can't replace this part free of charge then this will be the last vehicle we buy from them. Chrysler, fix your problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

52 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2010

I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty and I have replaced all 4 window regulators/motors. The dealership states that they are a problem with the liberates and are known to repeatedly break with normal use. The first time they broke was only one year and 6,000 miles. The second time was six months later on a road trip. I had to get them repaired out of state. After three years and having them all replaced, the driver side window was still hanging and was repaired again. Now at the present time 1/27/2010 and 19,000 miles the driver side window components are broken again and will need to be taked in for another repair. This part should be recalled and fixed. This has caused a great amount of economic stress for myself and many other Jeep owners who are forced to keep handing over money to Jeep for a part that they know is defective.

53 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that both of the rear window actuators fractured, causing the windows to drop down into the door panel. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the actuator was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.

Failure Date: 12/30/2009

The drivers side back window of my 2006 Jeep Liberty sport fell down in the door while my wife was driving it on the interstate. The car is only 3 years old and the window is rarely used. We do not have children of passengers in the vehicle that use it. I called the local Jeep dealer to find out that it would cost $550 to replace the window and mechanism (the window didn't break, but the new window regulator assembly requires it). My wife and I talked to the service manager and they did pick up 50% of the cost.

55 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2009

The left rear wnidow falls down at anytime. My children could fall out the window.

56 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2009

This is the 2nd window to fall into the door cavity. Passenger front and drivers rear. First replaced under warranty, second I had to pay the deductible on an extended warranty. This last time the temp. Was 10 degrees outside. Hoping others don't fall at highway speeds.

57 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2009

Left rear window fell down while the car was parked. This door is seldom used and the window had not been activated since I purchased it in 2006. Chrysler service dept. Stated the regulator had to be replaced. Because if was "only" 1200 miles out of warranty, Chrysler customer service would cover all but $100 of the cost. Internet search revealed multiple accounts of this issue,.

Driving to work, back passenger window begins to slide down on it's own - completely down by the time I get to work - power control runs but not moving the window up and down. Called dealership - $500 to fix. Researched on web - bought a repair kit for $90 and spent an hour doing it myself. All I had to replace was a $3 plastic piece. $500? extortion, anyone? this defect (check the web - tons of people have had this happen - only sometimes their windows have just dropped down suddenly) is well known to Jeep - they should be held accountable.

59 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2009

My 2006 Jeep Liberty passenger window fell in the door while I was driving. I was driving upstate and had to ride four hours with the window down at night. When I called the dealership about the window they said it was a common problem with the window regulator and cost about $500 to replace.

Rear drivers side window broke, fell into door Aug 2008 and was repaired by the dealer, one year to date same problem, dealer now tells me I must pay $75 to have it repaired, regardless of the fact that it was a recall issue! I feel the dealer is wrong in charging this but I am stuck.

Please review this window concern thank you myra rooks willard missouri.

63 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2009

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Liberty renegade issue: all 4 doors have needed the window regulators replaced, one them has been replaced twice. Another one broke towards the end of the warranty period but the dealer would not replace it under warranty because of the mileage on the vehicle when I arrived at the dealership. The vehicle was purchased new in December of 2006, so it has been through 3 years of continuous use and has received 5 new window regulators. It needs a 6th new regulator but the dealership wants to replace the window and the regulator, without any back-up data that suggests this will end the problem. During the last incident, I heard a loud popping sound coming from the back of the vehicle, while driving about 40 mph, but did not notice any immediate issues. The doors were briefly inspected for any damage and looked fine. After coming out of the movie theatre, about 2 hours later, the window had fallen completely into the door. To date the part has not been replaced due to a lack of confidence in the currently available resolution and due to the exorbitant cost. After inspecting the assembly, it appears that the plastic component, which moves along the railing, is not able to successfully capture and maintain a connection with the cable that enables the window the go up and down. Once the two pieces separate there is no way to reconnect them.

64 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2009

The window regulator on the drivers rear suddenly broke while driving on the highway. I was four days out off warranty, when I called the dealership they said I had to take the whole cost myself. I try to fix it myself if I can.

65 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. While driving at approximately 65 mph, all four windows would gradually slide down. The contact engaged the power buttongs for the windows and although she could hear a noise, the windows would not move back up. The windows were so far down that they could not be pulled up. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The manufacturer stated that they would assist with the repair costs. The current mileage was 25,045. The failure mileage was approximately 21,000.

66 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2009

The driver's rear window regulator broke and now the window will not go up and down and slides down by itself. Chrysler only sells the motor and regulator and everything as one package, so even though I can hear the motor working and it is most likely a broken piece of plastic, because that is what Jeeps use for regulators, that is causing the problem im going to have to pay 300 dollars to buy everything. If Chrysler would use a metal bracket as a regulator instead of a cheap piece of plastic there would not be so many problems with Jeep Liberty's window regulators breaking. And since they don't sell regulators by themselves it is almost like Chrysler is doing it just to make more money and that they don't care about their customers at all. It is a little bit ridiculous that they have not recalled these shotty quality regulators or even addressed the problem at all.

67 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2009

Passenger side front window fell down. Upon investagatoin found regulator wire came out.

68 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2009

2006 Jeep Liberty window fell down without having any reason. I have read on this website that an investigation does not need a specific number of complaints to start. I am just wondering why a part that cost from 350-600 to replace and has a number of complaints does not have an investigation. This to me seems like a one way for the Chrysler dealer decided to start to make money. This vehicle has had all four window regulators replaced in the last year and a half and now the driver side is down again. When will the manufacture or safercar going to step to the plate and do what they say they will do?.

69 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2008

Wanted a smoke and rolled down the rear window a little by mistake. Tried to roll it up and nothing. Look back and the window is sitting halfway down. Pulled over to try and get the window up and the door wont open. Piece of the window assembly is interfering with the lock because the kids got in that door when we left. Door will not open from inside or outside. It opens 1/2 inch and sticks.

70 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty 4x4. While driving approximately 45 mph, the contact accidentally lowered the rear driver's side window. She attempted to close the window, but was unsuccessful. She pulled over to the side of the road to physically push the window back up; however, the window fell into the door. The vehicle was driven in cold weather with the window down and the contact's toddler in the back seat. The vehicle was inspected by a local mechanic at her residence and she was informed that the regulator needed to be replaced. The dealer has not been notified. The manufacturer advised her to call the senior department, but she received no assistance. The current mileage was 46,000 and failure mileage was 45,975.
