1 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

Driving along behind several other vehicles, the weather was warm and the roadway was dry. Due to a red light, vehicles ahead rapidly slowed to a stop. I was traveling at about 30mph and applied my brake pedal to avoid hitting the slowly moving vehicle ahead. My vehicle failed to slow down and I pumped the brakes to no avail. I turned to the right and continued to pump the brake pedal. The brake finally caught and the vehicle came to a stop within two feet to the right of the stopped vehicle ahead. It resembled the feeling of abs on an icy road, but road conditions were excellent at the time. I have been extremely cautious driving this vehicle since the brake failure. There is good brake pedal and the master cylinder is filled with brake fluid. I am uncomfortable driving this vehicle and after reading a multitude of other mishaps by other 2002 Liberty owners, this is a dangerous malfunction.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/19/2010

On July 12 I bought a new 2010 Jeep Liberty, on August 19 I received a safety recall (k15) master cylinder brake tube(s), from customer services field operations, the notice states that the work will take about 1/2 hour to complete . I call the dealer were I bought the new car and told them about the recall, and they told me that they are confronting an unusual flow of repairs and that for this reason they will not be able to take any unit for repair for the next 2 weeks. What should I do, stop the only vehicle that I use for work for 2 weeks.

4 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/22/2008

Brakes on 2004 Jeep Liberty lock up after approximately 15 to 20 miles of travel. This failure of the brakes has caused this vehicle to slide on icy or wet roadways potentially causing a major accident with potential injuries. Additionally, the brakes will become hot and begin to smoke. This is a potential fire hazard. Problem was corrected by dealer replacing the brake master cylinder. The vehicle in question had only 37,111 miles and was just out of warranty.

5 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2007 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 03/11/2007

Purchased Jeep Dec, 2006 for my birthday/christmas. As of 4 weeks ago, while sitting at a red light the brakes go to the floor. (1st time it occurred there was a whooshing sound). Took it to dealership (on 3/26/07) where purchased and master cylinder was replaced. Picked up from svc dept. On March 28th (wed) and then the next evening (thurs) it worsened. We returned to the dealership on fri. , March 30th and as of today (April 5th)with Liberty still there, they say nothing is wrong and that it meets daimler Chrysler standards. And we are to pick it up. They will not refer where we can get it repaired and is fully under warranty. We own a Jeep wrangler, no problems with that Jeep. We need an explanation, before there is another crash as there was in port aransas, where the Jeep Liberty lost control hit another car and exploded and the people were burned beyond recognition! (on local news and port aransas website).

7 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/20/2005

The contact complained about a brake problem. Since the purchase of the vehicle the brakes have felt spongy. When applying brake pressure the pedal went all the way to the floor. It stop the vehicle, but the pressure had to be firm enough to press the pedal to the floor. Contacted daimler /hrysler, and their technical service representative said some Jeep liberties had this problem and some did not. They had no idea why this occurred. The dealership replaced the master cylinder free of charge, but the same thing happened again, the pedal must be pressed to the floor. The contact was concerned with the idea of losing brake pressure. Updated 11/29/05.

8 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/24/2005

2005 Jeep Liberty limited v-6 purchased July 18, 2005, service date Aug. 24, 2005, mileage 758 miles. The car has been driven gently under mild conditions since purchase, 10 miles each way to work on surface streets. Brake master cylinder failed. Owner became aware under normal driving conditions. While stopped in traffic, idling and foot on the brake, after 30-60 seconds brake pedal suddenly sinks to the floor. Orange light under brake indicator lights up with the error message "type 43". Dealer has car and is replacing brake master cylinder, which was found to be correctly installed but a defective oem part. The dealer has been cooperative so far. There is no excuse for a new car having a malfunction with less than 800 miles on it. The point of a new car is not having to worry. Also gas mileage is substantially under the advertised rate. Sticker says 17 city, 22 highway, average has been 12. 5 mpg driving surface streets, 20 miles per day rt.
