3 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 04/06/2024

I purchased this Jeep 2 yrs ago. Didn't know about issues with the emergency brakes. I used the emergency brake the other day and the Jeep kept rolling and I was parked on a low incline hill and it would not stop. I went online and saw this was a major issue. Contacted chrylser they said they only work on 2010 models. This is a major problem and I'm sure they are other older models with same issue. How can a so called reputable company not take care of their issue no matter how old model is. They claim brakes are self-adjusting no so.

4 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/10/2023

The entire dashboard set of alarm lights go on as soon as the vehicle starts. The speedometer stops working, the hand break light is on so it appears as it actually activates it and it slows the vehicle impacting drivability, the radiator fan is constantly working, the 4wd mode is activated by default also impacting drivability, impossible to see if the car is overheating, and it could very well be that the airbags would not work if needed. This all adds to a very unsafe drive.

8 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 06/02/2021

The airbag deployed on my wife that was in her third trimester pregnancy while driving on the highway, which left the baby and my wife at risk. She was sent to the emergency for abdominal trauma. Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, or ram dealer were unable to locate a recall number for the Jeep airbag system occupant restraint control (orc) module. It was a very long process and Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, or ram dealership located on I-10 kept giving us different responses about our airbag being at the dealership and then later finding out that they did not have the airbag in stock. The dealership offered $500 to keep the vehicle, but I refused and just wanted them to repair the airbag. The dealership kept calling us to pick up the vehicle and in order to do that, we would have to get it towed to where we lived. Luckily, a staff member at the dealership informed us that if we were to pick up the Jeep at that time then we would be fully responsible for it and could not hold the dealership accountable if something worse happened. Instead of following through with towing it, we did our own research and discovered that there were several similar testimonies about this issue for the same year make and model, (2003 Jeep Liberty). We called corporate several times and they were unable to locate the recall number nor give us a solution. After several months had passed, we finally received a recall number via text and email from mopar. Com. ( fca recall # r06). We then contacted the dealership with the recall number and confirmed that this was an issue that needed to be taken care of. They took several months to locate an airbag and finally repair the orc module. Once the vehicle was ready for pick up, they did not exactly walk us through the vehicle and new parts installed. The Jeep was in poor condition; it was left outside, uncovered, and paint is now peeling. Seatbelts do not spring back, dash lights are dim and steering is screeching, engine light is on. This took a total of 8 months.

10 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/23/2021

I'm speeding up as I'm passing a truck on 395, signaling with left blinker. Start speed as beginning to pass is approx. 55 mph. I signal right as I pull back in the south bound lane, take my foot off the gas pedal as I notice I'm driving 80 mph. The gas pedal is stuck and the car is going 80 mph on its own. I step on the brake carefully but its rock hard and doesn't move at all. At this point the car is stuck at 80 mph. I try to brake again but the same - brake pedal is stuck, doesn't move at all and is rock hard. Road conditions are good so I'm in a "controlled panic", and try the brake one more time. This time the brakes engage and I get the car down to 65 mph. I don't want to burn the brakes so I release the brake and immediately the car speeds up on its own to 80 mph. I repeat. Slow to 65 mph, step off the brake and again the car immediately speeds up to 80 mph. At this point my thoughts go to cruise control (which I had not activated or used on this trip). I pull the "cancel" on the cruise control, nothing. I try again and look at the dashboard where the cruise control light is "off", indicating cruise control is not on. I turn the cruise control on and pull the "cancel" again and brake. This time the car comes out of it, and I turn the cruise control off again. Since the cruise control was not even on to begin with, I don't know if that's what actually made the car unfreeze. I was lucky I was on a straight stretch of road with no traffic in front of me. Since I was passing a truck I'm not 100% sure if I sped up to 80 mph or if the car suddenly did that on its own. I do believe the car did that, as there was no reason to get up to that speed to pass safely.

11 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/14/2021

My vehicle was in motion and I was driving on a three lane street with a speed limit of 45 mph when the abs brake system suddenly seized. The brakes remained engaged and the only way I could drive my car was to put it in reverse, then neutral then drive. My entire drive home I could hear the brakes and whenever I had to stop at a stop sign the brakes would lock.

13 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/01/2020

I've had lower ball joints, bushing and control arms already replaced once in 2017 and now they are out again. I've been told by mopar that my 2006 Liberty was made 5 weeks after the last one involved in the recall. This is inexcusable. I've had 3 window regulators replaced. This is a fatality waiting to happen if I drive. I started hearing and feeling the ball joints going bad about 2 weeks ago. I hardly have driven it since I work from home now. Can Chrysler see all these complaints about the ball joints and still not add these 06 Jeep's to that recall. This is not good business at all. Also just had front brakes done 1 year ago and they need replaced already. Ignition - my key will not come out of the ignition unless I push on the ignition cable. Please help me to get these problems fixed. This is unacceptable from Chrysler.

The seatbelts have a trick I have to play with the drivers seatbelt to get it to click. The breaks have always squeaked and not stopped correctly the suspension feels off. The wheel turns to the left. I don't know about the airbags because I have yet to get into a wreck. The wheel turned to the left staring up my car after getting gas causing me to smash in my passenger drivers side door. Problems upon problems since I got the vehicle from four seasons auto in st. 25 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 04/19/2019

As I am accelerating from a stop my entire vehicle will completely lock up out of nowhere and will no longer move. I can still shift all the gears, however my Jeep will not budge in drive or reverse when pressing on the gas pedal. This has left me stranded in the middle of both lanes of traffic on multiple occasions. This is a huge safety concern, as I have had other vehicles almost crash into me. The only way I can describe it, is like having the emergency brake come on while your driving. The vehicle locks up and the tires skid until you come to a complete stop. It's very scary!.

28 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 10/11/2018

When breaking on anything other than drive pavement all four tires lock up. I have gone through numerous intersections and stop signs and been lucky enough to not hit anyone. I now have to approach stop signs and lights that have any incline by pumping my breaks and coming to a crawl. This never happened with my 2003 and it didnt happen when I first bought the Jeep. Since I live in maine where winters are bad it is very troubling and stressful.

Driving under 10 mph lightly applied breaks vehicle went into a spin. This has occurred three times now over the last three weeks. Luckily was able to avoid accidents each time. First two occurrences were experienced by my daughter. I took the vehicle for a test drive to determine cause/issue and found that the vehicle is dangerously defective when breaking a low speeds. I ran the vehicle up to 10 mph I applied the breaks in a controlled area while going ~10 mph on a straight away. Without warning the vehicle went into a terrible spin doing a 360 3 times. Felt as vehicle was going to tip. When this occurred to my daughter she reported that one side of the vehicle lifted off the ground.
