general problems of the 2016 Jeep Patriot - part 2

The rpms in my Jeep Patriot will randomly drop to zero and the car does not accelerate when you press the gas pedal. After a period of time the rpms will jump back up and the car will start working properly again. The car never turns off and the engine is fully running. No warning lights or codes are activated when this happens. This has happened to me in the middle of traffic as well as on the open highway. The dealership is unable to diagnose the problem.

I've had my car since January 2022. Since last year, there's been a clicking noise once I begin driving & it'll click for awhile. For these past 3 months my check engine light has came on. The message from o'reilly's read "evaporative emissions system small leak detected. " the 1st time I was told to get the emissions system cleaner. The light went off. Second month, light came back on with the same message. This time I was told to buy a new gas cap. I did, light never went off. I bought the advance emissions cleaner & the light went off. This being month 3, light came on again June 2nd. Again told to get gas cap, I did & light never went off. Last week Tuesday, getting on the freeway, I accelerated as I got over 5 lanes. When I got to lane 3, my car jerked & by the time I got to the 5th lane, my vehicle started decelerating, with my traction control light coming on. I pulled over, being on the left side of the freeway. Turned my car off then restarted it and it wouldn't drive though my foot was on the gas pedal. Turned off then back on after a bit and it started driving slow then stopped, turning it off. Sat for a bit longer then started her again. Drove on the shoulder to get a clearance to get to the other side, by the time I got to lane 3 the car started decelerating again & the traction light came back on. While trying to be safe, I managed to get over the last 2 lanes and had to stop now on the right shoulder of the freeway. Turned it off. Sat for awhile and started it back up so I can get to the next exit. I drove the shoulder & even at a slower speed the car shut off again. Traction light came on each time it decelerate. Sat again for another while. And this time when I turned it back on, it started shaking which I immediately turned it off! I had to get towed. I researched, there's a recall for the time frame my vehicle was manufactured, which was may 2016 for the crankshaft senor causing the engine to stall, which never got fixed on its carfax I have.

After filling up vehicle (not overfilled) it stalls when I come to a stop or slow down for a turn. This just started today after filling up from the same fuel station I always use. The Jeep restarts after a few seconds after turning it completely off.

Car turned slowed down and almost turned off while I was driving with my toddler in the back seat potentially putting our lives in danger had it happened in the freeway. The abs light turned on but later in the day turned off and the engine light turned on as well but didn’t turn off until the next day. After a week it did the same thing again except the abs light didn’t turn on.

The SUV uses large amounts of oil, no matter what brand. Also an electrical issue is present. The radio stops working, thr check engine light stays on. And the headlights dim way down. This happens randomly. The engine code reappears for p420, and I have fixed every component related to the code. The SUV consumes approximately 2 quarts of oil in a months driving. The headlights dim so low, even with brights on, you can barely tell they are on.

On several different occasions my car has stalled in traffic and idled down for I couldn't drive had to pull over and turn it off and turn it back on to go again the check engine light then stability light will come on. Camshaft code I have fixed the cam and crankshaft sensors first time then it failed again so I changed them a second time now it's failed again . I almost got rear-ended a couple times very dangerous. Now my step button on the steering wheel and the horn quit working all of a sudden. I found out on the site of mopar that it is the electrical connector and terminal both cam sensors and crank sensors on certain VIN numbers,all 2016 Jeep Patriots should have been included as others are having the same issues. I cannot afford to keep on putting money into this problem. This can be confirmed by my mechanic which replaced it twice. The dates this has happened are April 2023 worked for awhile then February 2024 happened again changed cam and crank sensors again. April 16 started failing again, limp mode have to pull over turn engine off turn it back on to go again. Every week at first now every few days. Engine light then traction stability light can't go over 10 miles per hour, pull over turn engine off turn it back on stability light goes off but engine light stays on for a day goes off the next day. I do not feel safe driving long distance anywhere and this can wear down your engine and vehicle life. I bought this car paid a lot of money for it for the comfort of knowing I would have something dependable in my old age and can not keep on putting money into a problem that should have been on the recall list also. It only has 115,000 miles on it. I'm going to the Jeep dealer next week to see if mopar can resolve this and pay for this issue. Also this happens if you're going 1 to 55 miles per hour reverse or forward doesn't matter.

The car started shutting off while driving.

When im driving it will either stall completely or feel like its loosing power and go limp. Its very dangerous while on the highway because people dont expect that ill go from 65 down to 40mph. I have already taken it to a mechanic and didnt find anything wrong with it. The occasion where it completely stalled. I had to have it pushed off the road, car was still on just didnt have any kind of power, couldnt move my wheels. Turned off the car waited a couple of minutes then was able to turn it back on and drive again. This has been going on for the last month.

My 2016 Jeep Patriot 4x4 engine light is staying on. When I took it to a mechanic to have it read it stats faulty cramshaft and camshaft position sensors. My engine has stalled, loss of acceleration and power, shuddering, and jerking that is continuously happens. Jeep manufactures said its not there problem. I need help with my vehicle, not just for my safety but for the safety of my kids. Also the problem is only getting worse.

Vehicle will intermittently stall and/or lose power while driving. This causes me to have to pull over while driving, wait several minutes, and then I can restart the vehicle and proceed with my way. Overall acceleration is now sluggish in all conditions. The diagnostic code that is recurring indicates an intermittent speed sensor circuit a. I have taken this to my local Jeep dealership, and they have replaced the camshaft, which failed to address the issue. They are still working on the issue as I file this complaint. I note that Chrysler (fca us, llc) had a prior recall issued in 2017. The VIN for my vehicle was not part of that recall, and I was not notified. I also note that NHTSA has opened a still current recall query with Chrysler as of July 22, 2022, as the issue that was described in that recall is still an issue with other owners of the same model, and that their symptoms match what I am facing with my vehicle.

I would like to know if the vehicle was in the flood of 2020 1st of all. I've had this vehicle in many times before I was told there was no maintenance work done prior to me buying it from a dealer. Been addressing a bad odder upon starting the vehicle for over a year. The smell is in the cab also. Now being told it could be the catalytic converter @ 51,000 miles on the vehicle. I've already spent over $1,300. 00 to cover normal maintenance that was never done by the dealer I bought the vehicle from. My extended warranty ran out a month or so ago. This has put my life in danger being I'm breathing exhaust/ fumes. Please advise & thank you.

Since 2021 I have been complaining odd a smell (burning/ rotten) upon 1st starting up the vehicle. It was on the faint side when 1st discovered. Taken into dealership I bought it from when 1 first noticed. Dealership said no authorized Jeep mechanics on site and recommended to take it to a authorized Jeep dealer. Taken to Jeep dealership 2022 with same complaint. Replaced inside air filters. No resolution/ taken to 3rd dealership 2023 late winter. It wasn't till )CT. 2023 same dealership taken to in late winter found converter: exhaust and catl crack in maniverter. Over $3,000 in repairs. Who can help me this car there is something wrong with it because I CA still smell the smell after spending all this money.

Vehicle suddenly stalls with no prior warning, both while driving and at rest. This cannot be duplicated and does not throw codes on the code scanner. Occasionally it will "hiccup" and keep going instead of a complete stall. Rpm drops to zero and will then jump back to their prior reading. The vehicle becomes impossible to control (stalled so no speed st all abd difficult to steer). Mechanic cannot duplicate problem or find code on their reader. We have replaced the throttle body and one camshaft sensor but not the other, more difficult to reach sensor. There is a current recall for camshaft/crankshaft sensor that applies to some 2016 Jeep Patriots but ours falls outside of that manufacturing date range.

I purchased the vehicle 4 months ago, and this began at the end of September. Engine stalls out when driving down the highway, check engine light and road hazard lights come on and car trying to accelerate itself at times and other times won’t go over 40 mph. If you let off the brake the car immediately launches forward. I have almost been hit as the car stalls out of no where. I can pull over and turn it off then back on and it will drive for a few miles then happen again. The car was hooked up to the code reader and it says throttle body injector p2173.

I was driving to work and noticed that I wasn't getting any power when I accelerated from being stoped at a stop sign and when I got to another stop sign it felt like the brakes where still on for a few secs then the car stalled on ne. I crunk it up and drove about 3 more miles and the car started overheating so I pulled over and shut it off and waited for it to cool down. It hasn't been able to crank since I shut it off. I've checked my fluid and other minor trouble shooting. No luck.

Like many other Jeep Patriot owners, I have experienced driving down the road when out of nowhere, the car dies! mechanics keep telling people that either the camshaft position sensor or the crankshaft position sensor needs to be replaced. . . . . . It's a temporary fix. The code that comes up says that the sensor is intermittent. It's not the sensor that's the problem, it's the wiring connectors!!! those two sensors are on the same harness. I've had all three sensors replaced. Right after, the car drives fine. Very soon after, the car stalls while driving. Back to square one. They need to recall the sensor wiring for these two sensors for all 2016 Jeep Patriots.

Right before arrive to home my wife an kids (2), the Jeep Patriot 2016 completely shutdown the engine when she slowed down in a gated community to pass a speed bump. The dash lights still on but the car didn't run. She had to maneuver to stop the car. Then she backed the key and start the car and it turned on as usual. Luckily was in the gated community and no traffic here but, I could not imagine what will happen if this engine suddenly shutting down in a highway. I could loose my entire family in a second.

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that upon accelerating uphill, the rmps would reeve up but the vehicle would fail to respond as needed. The coolant temperature warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle temperature sensor had failed and had damaged the transmission. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the temperature sensor, the head gasket, the water pump, the radiator, unknown hoses and clamps were replaced. A transmission flush was completed and the transmission was rebuilt. Additionally, the contact stated that upon parking the vehicle after driving 45 mph, she noticed that the driver's seat headrest had partially deployed independently. The contact pushed the headrest inside the seat; however, the headrest completely deployed. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.

While operating the vehicle up to 45 mph the engine will stall, but the car remains on. The wheel locks and pushing on the pedal does not work. I usually turn on my hazard lights on turn the car off and back on. By doing so, someone may not be paying attention and slam into the back of my vehicle and I have held up traffic because of this issue. After restarting the car drives and operates normally. I would also like to report shuddering, and jerking while driving at any speeds.

Th crankshaft sensor failed multiple times. This happened 4 times within 2 days while I was merging onto the freeway, people behind me had to slam on their breaks or swerve to avoid hitting me. I took it to the shop and they identified it was the crankshaft sensor. They also explained that there is a recall in place for my year and model, but that my VIN indicated that "my Jeep was made 2 weeks prior to the recall window of dates. ".

Rpm’s started jumping car wouldn’t accelerate cam shaft sensor code.

Within 1. 5 years my car kept slowing down when driving out of no where. We almost crashed because the car literally won’t pick up speed or just jolts a few times then stops. We spent over $1000 to have it fixed with 3 different mechanics. They said it was the crankshaft I believe and catalytic converters. We just got the car brand new in 2016 so this has been frustrating because we get oil changes every 3 months and take great car of the car. We’ve had two get brakes don’t over and over and also when you turn the wheels it’s loud and sounds like the ending of a roller coaster when you here it turning. The rides are not smooth either you can see my hand shaking hard when driving even at slow speeds like 35 mph. Jeep really sold us a lemon and we have been paying such a high car note on top fixing things each year. After so many complaints, they really should reimburse people who spend money fixing the same issue. A law suit may handle the issues as well but due diligence would be Jeep seeing the issues and repairing the problem or refunding for the repairs. I’m hoping someone else will see my complaints and think twice before purchasing this vehicle.

While on highway engine has completely stalled since may of 2022-September-2022.

To whom it may concern I purchased a 2016 Jeep Patriot sport on may 21 2022, the vehicle since date of purchase has been stalling at acceleration speeds of 65 mph, as well as in reverse while parking while idle at stop light and stop sign upon stalling no warning lamp has been present. I have contacted multiple Jeep dealerships upon getting a diagnostic for this matter as well as recalls, I was told by Jeep by customer service that they did not do recalls on the 2016 models any longer. In the mist of trying to get it serviced , by Jeep the vehicle was serviced 3 times in total by nyc automart with no avail. The crank shaft sensor was changed by nyc automart twice still no solutions.

Vehicle will stall at any speed without warning when letting go of gas pedal. Check engine light will come on once out of every 3-4 stalls with an engine code pointing to crankshaft position sensor. VIN is not part of recall group however experiencing identical symptoms.

Vehicle engine stopped. Loss of steering. Yes yes engine light was on, hesitation on acceleration. Safety recall s89 has been done 5-3-2017 at 4,973 miles, and was told that there was a 2 year warranty on the repair?.

While driving home from a wedding with a passenger in my car, the engine for my Jeep Patriot stalled several times. The car would come to a stop and was difficult to control when the stalling occurred, putting both myself and my passenger at risk of a traffic accident. The car was towed to an independent service center which documented in their reports the engine stalling repeatedly. This independent service center was not able to alleviate the issue despite replacing the crankshaft and camshaft sensors. I then took the car to my local Jeep dealership, which performed further repairs on the crankshaft sensor and wiring harnesses, thereby resolving the problem. The vehicle and components were not inspected by any other parties to my knowledge. There were no warning lights or prior indication that the engine was about to stall, adding to the danger associated with this incident.

I hear that a lot of 2016 this model the crankshaft sensor is bad. I would believe this should be a recall the dealership should pay for it.

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Patriot latitude. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph the vehicle was shaking. The check engine and electronic throttle light illuminated the instrument panel. The contact drove safely to a local mechanic who diagnosed the failure to be electronic throttle issues. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 64,495.

Our 2016 Jeep Patriot is experiencing stalling in the motor when trying to accelerate at any speed. This happens frequently as well as our temp gauge running hot. We looked up recalls and seen this same issue, typed in our VIN… recalls are for same year and make, but not ours. Can we get this reported? or how do we go about seeing if ours will qualify for coverage since it’s the same thing happening in the recalls? we’ve had several close calls of being hit because our vehicle stalls.

Crankshaft position sensor. Engine stalled in traffic. Had to stop, place car in park, turn engine off and then back on. Independent mechanic has confirmed issue. Error code p0335. Vehicle has not been inspected by manufacture or others. Engine has stalled previously with no warning signs. Symptoms have been present since purchase.

Jeep sucks so does dealership.

While driving my Patriot, as I turned into the gas station the check engine light, traction control light and etc (red lightning bolt) all popped on at the same time. My vehicle instantly went into limp mode. When in park, stayed a consistent 1,500 rpm’s. All of this happened without warning as the car drove and ran like normal prior. Thankfully I was only . 5 miles from home and was able to get it home. Code pulled: p2173 car has always been maintained on time since date of purchase.

Vehicle unable to reach speed above 30mph. Electronic throttle control (etc) symbol shows up in error on dashboard. Unable to accelerate beyond 30mph. Vehicle drives with unstable and jerky motions. Have had this issue before and dealership mechanic reset computer, downloaded a system update to solve issue. This occurred about 2019. Issue has represented itself.

The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the rpm fell to zero and the vehicle hesitated and jerked while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated.
