Less that 3 yrs old and just over 44,000 miles, my 2008 Jeep Patriot's front bearings & ball joints are bad. I have not driven this vehicle hard by any means, mostly highway miles. I was told by the dealership that I could loose a wheel just by hitting one bad pothole. This is a very serious safety concern for me & my children, especially since we travel at over 55mph most of the time.

2007 Jeep Patriot limited, fwd. At approx 47000 miles the left front ball joint was worn and needed replacing. At 55000 the right ball bearing was pitted and worn to the point of being dangerous, according to our mechanic.
After blowing the right rear tire in a pot hole I went to a tire store to have a new tire put on and rotate all tires while there. The store manager showed me the ball joints on the front two tires were very loose. Only 19,000 miles on the Jeep Patriot 2007. Prior that I did not notice any change in the drive.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Patriot 4x4. The contact stated that the vehicle was being serviced for a routine oil change when the contact was informed that the front ball joints on the driver and passenger sides were loose and needed replacing. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer confirmed the failure. The dealer stated that the ball joints were no longer under warranty and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 63,000.
I had read about the problems with the ball joints on the Jeep Patriot. I indeed checked the balls joints and they are cracking at only 32000 miles look like the balls joints of a 100000 car with 10 years of use. This is a known problem that is defective from the manufacturer. How can a car that is known as trail rated not be able to take normal pavement use with so little miles. Chrysler needs to put a a recall for it. Before they have safety issues and get bad publicity from it like what happened to Toyota.
Lower arm/ball joint needed replacement at 19k miles and 26k miles. New tire wore out in 7k miles due to poor design. This is a known problem and canada requires Jeep to replace it at their expense.
I just had my vehicle serviced and was told that my lower front ball joint has failed prematurely. I noticed that this isn't an isolated problem, plenty of Jeep owners have similar issues. I'm just out of my warranty, and Chrysler Jeep will not identify this as a problem.
Front ball joint replacement on a 2007 Jeep Patriot with 26300 miles. Jeep was neve off-road. Just out of warranty and fighting with Jeep to get reimbursment. Just cost me $760. 00 to replace both ball joints.
2008 Jeep Patriot. Bad ball joints and tie rods. I drive my vehicle on the highway and city roads only. No off roading at all. I recently purchased my vehicle after leasing it for almost 3 years. At 40k, just 4000 miles out of the 3/36 warranty, the ball joint on my driver side needs to be replaced. Other vehicles last 100k miles from my research, and this is a major concern for me. I have contacted Chrysler and researched the web and found this to be a common complaint and issue with the Jeep Patriot.
In a car used only in city roads: - 21000 miles: power steering pump, gear and nuts (Jeep covered) - 32000 miles: left ball joint replaced (Jeep covered) - 45000 miles: right ball joint needs replacement (not covered by Jeep) this has created a lot of additional charges not covered by Jeep like alignment, tires, etc. Jeep liberty was also recalled due to a similar problem. Please consider this problem as from the current list of 37 complains for this car(including this) 24 are for the same problem I am reporting.
I brought my vehicle in for new tires at 51,000 miles and was advised that my 2 year old Jeep had ball joints that are dangerously worn. This is premature as it has been driven under normal use, just higher then average miles. As the warranty for this part is limited to 3 years 36,000 I am on my own, so I have ordered the parts and will do it myself.
Week after we bought the vehicle we starting hearing a poping noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Took the vehicle in they looked and said they couldn't find the problem. It was still doing it brought it back in and they put it up on the rack and then told us that the ball joints were back and needed to be replace at our cost (805. 41) now we have a leak from the sunroof and I have water standing in the floorboards.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Patriot fwd. The contact stated that she was experiencing a recurring failure in which the passenger side ball joint would continuously need replacing. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs and most recently, the contact was advised that the driver side ball joint would also need replacing. The manufacturer was made aware of the recurring failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage 55,000.
Repeatedly brought 2008 Jeep Patriot to dealership for repair estimate of creaking in suspension and/or steering column. Was told that a rock was found in the suspension and it was removed. Problem persisted and again I took the Jeep back for repair. Was told that no sound could be heard and that nothing was wrong with the Jeep Patriot. . Read more...
2007 Jeep Patriot 4x4 with almost 37k miles needs new rear brakes and ball joints. Repair is approximately $1,000. This has never been taken off roading although it is "trail rated" . Brakes and ball joints should not fail so soon and the consumer should not have to pay such a high repair cost. Jeeppatriot. Com and other sites have several complaints on the same issue. This could be a serious safety issue, especially if there were an inexperienced driver at the wheel!.
I have a 2008 Jeep Patriot 4x4 ltd. It has 35,664 miles on it and both ball joints are bad, bad, bad. Last night after picking up my two babies, I encountered a flat tire. Both front tires were cambering and now I have two flats as a result of the bad ball joints. As service members, we need to be at our jobs or be able to be on call. This is our only vehicle and now, it's not able to be driven due to the issue at hand. I know I am not the first to complain about this same problem and I'm ashamed of the Chrysler corp for not looking into this as it is a safety concern.
2008 Jeep Patriot 49,000 miles. Passenger side front end making loud clunking noise. Haven't located exact issue yet, but have it narrowed down to ball joint or tie-end.
Normal, routine driving with vehicle that had less than 36,000 miles and the ball joints failed, they were replaced before warranty ran out later that month.
Seat slider & ball joints Jeep Patriot 2007 4x4 & rear suspension---reported seat coming out of locked position after having to hit break a little hard in forward and also happened in reverse. Made 3 complaints to the same dealer and finally had it replaced. Reported to same dealer about noise in the front and rear of car, after having to replace all 4 tires at 19,000 miles because they were bald. Dealer said nothing was wrong however young lad that installed tires said ball joints were loose and rear end was seized. Never been off road and commute to work is 10 miles one way on expressway. Included is complaint about tires, goodyear 205/70r16 all season. Lasted 19,000 miles and all were bald. Rotated every 5,000 miles and because they are the only ones that make that tire size besides dunlop had no choice but to replace them with the same as I'm canadian here and dunlop is not readily available. Other alternative was to buy all new rims and tires in 17". Am currently fighting with Chrysler to fix the suspension issues since the dealer was aware of it well within the warranty period. I encourage everyone to report problems here and to the head office of the company and don't give up until you receive satisfaction. They ask for us to bail them out, then show responsibility and use better quality parts to build the product.
Ball joints needed replaced after 36,700 that was exactly 700 miles over warranty. Now tires are shot as well because of the ball joints. Took it to dealership they replaced now Patriot is out of alignment.
