Jeep Patriot owners have reported 3 problems related to differential unit (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Spouse has just made a turn and was driving home in the country when she heard a loud pop followed by a loud noise from the rear of the car with vehicle vibration. She pulled over to the side of the road and noticed the rear wheel driver side was on an angle. Husband showed up to see what happened and it appears the rear subframe cracked under severe corrosion allowing the left rear axle to pop out of the differential. Vehicle was then towed home.

2010 Jeep with 65,000 miles has "ticking" noise coming from differential. Dealer states that the transmission has to be replaced. Although it is below the 100,000 mile warranty, it is just over the 5 year limit and is no longer covered by the warranty. While it was still under the warranty, the dealer said there was no problem with the transmission and simply changed the fluid and filter. Now I have to pay!.
