Jeep Patriot owners have reported 28 problems related to radio/tape cd player (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
After heavy rain or car wash, water pours out of map lights into the radio and gear shifter. It is dangerous/distracting while driving and I'm afraid it will eventually cause electronics and the Jeep's main computer to fail. While turning, the water will soak the driver or passenger suddenly depending in which direction the turn was made. The vehicle was taken to the dealership on two occasions to identify the problem and fix the issue. A video of it happening was shown to them so there would be no misunderstandings and to help them see the problem. Both times the dealership said they fixed the problem, however, it still leaks.

The sunroof leaks and water pours down from the front overhead lights onto the dash, into the radio and seeps into the front carpets. This happens anytime there is rain, whether the car is stationary or moving.

There is a leak somewhere that floods water through the map lights in the roof every time it rains. It has shorted out the entire radio screen where it no longer functions. Took into a dealership to take a look and they said it was fixed 2 times and still continued to leak. I have forums online that hundreds of people have the same exact issue! I will proceed with filing lemon law if this does not get addressed.

My roof is leaking when it rains hard under the dome light into the light on the dashboard and is getting into the radio/navigation system. Also is leaking from the roof on the passenger side dashboard.
This car needs to be investigated! not safe. Multiple problems. I bought this car about a month ago. I was driving on highway with my 5 year old son when the car started shaking and clunking uncontrollably. I pulled over thinking I had a flat tire but did not. Went to mechanic, where they replaced faulty sway bar and also installed an exhaust spring bolt kit that was never installed to begin with. Get the car back to not only have the same issues again along with issues with transmission seeming to slip. I was approaching a red light- again with my son in the car, while breaking- the car jumps rpm and almost ran into car in front of me. Also on cruise control the car wouldn't stop rev'n the engine. It was stuck over 4 rpm. I bought this car for safety but it is far from safe. There was an airbag recall but when I purchased the car it was marked as a seat belt recall. I would of steered clear if I knew about airbag but now I know airbag may not work in crash or will deploy randomly even if it was fixed it's not a legit fix due to electrical?! also I believe the recall on 2. 4 engines should also be looked into for more possible cars affected. My car follows same problems as those recalled and same engine but mines not recalled. This car clunks in and out of driveways. It feels like it will fall apart. The weather striping is poor allowing water to get in causing moldy smell. The brake lights accumulate water. There seem to be signs of electrical problems however mechanic can't see it. Can't charge phone an listen to radio unless you like static! same with aux cord, just stopped working. Aside from looking nice- crysler did a terrible job with this particular Patriot. Poorly built, not worth the money. They rather have people die or get seriously injured before looking into recalling it right? multiple attempts to fix it have been made and car is still in the shop.

The over heating light turns on on the dash and my car over heats after driving on the highway going over 50mph for more than 15 minutes. However, if I drive on state roads going 50mph or under the car doesn't over heat. I got a new thermostat and new radiotor thinking it would solve the problem and it did not. There is no leak coming from the car so it is not a water pump issue. The coolant levels are good.

One morning I tried to turn on my vehicle and it would not start. Got a friend to come out to try and jump start it and after about 30 min it was successful. Two days later I had the same issue. Tried to jump the car again with no success. Replaced the battery but did not help. All the electrical componemts inside the car (radio, lights, ect) were still functional but engine would not start or even make a sound like it was attempting to start. Jeep was towed to a local mechanic and he could not figure out the issue after 1. 5 weeks of trying to figure out what was wrong. I then towed it to a Jeep dealership and he stated that he didnt know what was wrong with it. He removed the plastic coverings over the engine and stated they are just for looks and dont need to be there and cleaned some wires near the drivers side wheel well and the vehicle was able to start. Later while driving my Jeep started to act strange. Randomly all the lights on the dash board would turn on, the guages went all the way to zero then back up to normal the radio would shut off and turn back on and the car would feel like it was about to stall. Later, the same thing happened except this time the lights stayed on engine was still running but could not accelerate my vehicle and power steering went out. I then would have to pull my Jeep to the side of the road turn it off let it set for a little then it would start back up fine. This happened about 5 times over the course of a couple weeks. When it wasnt happening and I was driving the Jeep around normally the check battery light would always turn on after about 5 to 10 min after drivimg the vehicle. Occasionally the check oil light will also turn on. I have still foumd mp solution to these problems amd it continues to happen. It makes it very unsafe to drove especially on the highway and in congested areas due to vehicle randomly not working.
Water was found leaking from the overhead reading lamps and down onto the dash/radio. It has stained the headliner and leaves potential for other water damage and mold.

Car has moonroof, water leaks come through map lights, and power awich for moonroof, drips on radio and gear selector, cant fix leak. Very common problem with the research I have done, very distracting while driveing as water pours out of map /dome lights. Only leaks water when car is in motion, not sitting.
2011 Jeep Patriot. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle low quality radio can't withstand extreme heat or cold- heat and air conditioner ducts located near radio. The consumer stated an internal short was found in the radio. The consumer could not tune into the am or fm station. The radio ws repaired. Updated 06/14/2017.
The sunroof leaks into the headliner while parked or in motion, the water eventually finds its way into the front dome light which then precedes to leak all over the radio and climate control knobs. This has happened multiple times to my vehicle and seems to be a nation wide problem with Patriots in most model years. The most recent episode ruined my radio and I'm afraid to install another because this will eventually happen again and again.

Massive water leaks from the sunroof and dome light fired the radio and control dials also water in on the rear floors after rain.
After a storm I got into my new 2014 Jeep Patriot which only has 8,000 miles on it and I noticed that my dome light above the cd player in the headliner was completely full of water. I was unable to take it out so I had to drive home like that and everytime I went around a curve water gushed out of my dome light all over me and my dash and cd player. Then another day it was raining and I was driving the Jeep and water droplets kept falling from the headliner/light area. I took it to the dealership and they have had to take the headliner down and work on it for over 2 weeks to fix the problem.
My Jeep has been to the dealer five times for a major sunroof water leak please help . My Jeep smells like mildew the radio and ac controls are not working correctly and there is only 28000 miles on my Jeep. . . . . . . . . . .
Before the snow and cold had come to northwest PA I decided to get a new vehicle. I now own a 2008 Jeep Patriot. 2 weeks ago in the negative weather my car had trouble shifting and even stalled while at a red light. It is an automatic. This morning it would not start at all. Thinking it was the battery I had my car jumped. The radio and lights worked but it would not turn over or start. We even tried to hit the starter to see if that was the problem. Still would not start. The engine light is now on the dash.
I got this Jeep 2 months ago from a dealership in san antonio. On maybe about 5 occasions when I was at a stop light the whole engine shook like it was just going to turn off, luckily it never did. That is until yesterday, I got to a stop light heading home from work and it just turned off on me. No shaking this time, no warning at all. The radio and everything stayed on so I knew it wasn't the battery, and it wouldn't even crank when I tried turning the key just stayed silent. Mind you since there was no warning and I'm the only one in the car a 5'0" 118 lb woman not going to be able to push it somewhere safe all I could do was throw my emergency lights on and hope I didn't get rear ended with everyone leaving work (5 o' clock traffic was just starting) which I did almost get hit at least 3 times! after a couple minutes I tried again and it turned back on. I pulled into a parking lot and got on the phone with my dealership they're so incompetent though I already know they're going to say they can't find out why it happened. This has never happened to me before and I was freaking out looking in the rear view mirror seeing cars slamming on their brakes. This needs to be fixed ASAP!.
2007 Jeep Patriot limited - stream of water leaking from dome lights and map lights, and also along the sides of the headliner in car. Was advised possible kinked or clogged drainage tubes. Checked no kink, and when water was poured down directly into tubes, it drained with no clogs. Water running into radio/cd player. Electrical hazard. No solution being offered by Jeep! many people have filed complaints but there has been no recall of any sort.

I only owned the car for one week and there were only 156 miles on the car. When I got in my car after work today (the first rainy day since I picked up the vehicle a week ago) there was water all over the radio, console, gear shift, dashboard and also on the seats and floor. Water was leaking into the car from the interior lights located right above the dashboard. The cd player was making a clicking noise and saying load cd or eject cd and would just go on and off sporadically as I drove to the Jeep dealer. The most concerning and dangerous part was water would continue to pour out from the lights as I drove every time I made a turn. Water would spray onto me, as well as, parts of the interior of the car without notice.

The sunroof drain tubes freeze causing the sunroof reservoir to fill with a significant amount of water. Any vehicle movement causes the water to leave the reservoir and pour down through the dome light onto the console, radio, and gear shift control.
My 2008 Jeep Patriot is leaking from the dome light after heavy rain this past weekend. The seats in my car, the rug and dash were so wet I’m still airing out my car and I’m so paranoid about mold and rust, or even worse the car creating a short circuit while my kids are in the car. My radio went out as well as a result of all the water leaking through, this is so upsetting. I was so disgusted to find out that there were so many people with this same exact problem and Jeep not recalling these cars or at least sending a voucher for whatever the expenses are to fix it. I read that some have had to take in their cars in more than once for the same repair and it doesn’t get fixed, its like throwing money away. I’m still paying for my car and I don’t think that it is at all fair that I am paying for a car that I cannot trust now. Unfortunately I bought the car as is and that was my worst mistake ever. Jeep please do not ignore these pleas, we need safe reliable cars that we can trust. Beyond disappointed.
Water leaked from map lights. Leaked onto radio, center console. Only way to stop leak was to seal sunroof. Now water is leaking from rear some lights. I gorilla glued the joints and hinges on the tailgates and plastic roof mount. Was unsuccessful to stop leak. Water causing major damage to interior.
Water comes in through the headlamp onto the radio when braking after precipitation.
As I was driving home from work in a thunderstorm at 2am on the highway at 65 miles per hour, the dome light began pouring water like a waterfall all over me, the radio, the shifter, and my iphone which was in the cup holder. The next day I called the local dealer to enact my 5 year 50,000 mile warranty and schedule service. I was informed that they do not have anyone available to work on my leak until 3 weeks from now. Additionally the service is not under warranty as window seals are only covered for 3 years 35,000 miles. My concern is not only one of bad customer service from Jeep's point of view, but also safety as it is very distracting to drive while being soaked with water. The water could also cause other damages to the vehicle which could result in a crash or fire.
A year ago, I brought my 2011 Jeep Patriot to a car wash. The sunroof was closed, however while going through the car wash, water started pouring through the sunroof and the light fixtures, instantly causing an electrical short and damaging the roof liner and the car stereo. I immediately brought the vehicle to the local Jeep dealership. They kept my car for two days and called me to explain that "the car had dried out so you can come pick it up. " I told them that I was hesitant to pick the car up because there would surely be additional damage that would need to be investigated. When I picked up my car the stereo and lights still did not work. Frustrated, I called the Jeep corporate customer service line. The representative explained to me that Jeeps were not meant to be taken into car washes. I asked her how Jeep can manufacture off-road vehicles that cannot be washed. She replied that I could get a bucket and hand wash my vehicle. I decided to take my car to an out-of-state dealership . They had it for several days and called to tell me there was nothing wrong with it and I could pick it up. Once again, I picked up the vehicle and the lights and stereo still did not work. Out of frustration, I gave up on the issue for awhile until I was driving down the highway and water started pouring through the sunroof and fixtures once again- distracting my driving because water is pouring everywhere. I promptly brought my vehicle back in to the local dealership. They called and told me they found a piece of painter's tape in the sunroof from some recent painting to my car I had done. I approached the paint shop with no reply. Today, the car started leaking through the sunroof and fixtures causing water to stream down the inside of the windshield, limiting my vision while driving. My car is still not fixed because Jeep is unwilling to acknowledge that there is a problem.
I purchased a 2009 Jeep Patriot in July of 2013 with 27,000 miles. From the very first hard rain fall the sunroof leaked. For the first few months, due to insufficient rainfall, I thought I had not properly closed the sunroof the few times it leaked. However, soon afterwards it became clear that it was leaking. The water enters my interior roof and trails to the lowest point, my dome lights and screw holes, where it exits onto my dash and radio. My radio has been damaged. I took it to a garage last week and they unstopped the drainage tubes for $224. 00. It did not leak for about a week and then I went out this morning, after a heavy rainfall last night, and it was leaking again! I have found and contacted an attorney who has filed a class action lawsuit against Chrysler for this problem.
I have a 2008 Jeep Patriot, my Jeep started leaking from the map light, dome light and cargo light the water ran into my a/c unit and my cd changer, gear shift, glove compartment and all over my carpet and seats, in sept. Of 2009 after a heavy rain we were in a drought until then. I got the car back and the dealership said the leak was fixed, they said they had to connect the drain tubes. Once I got my car back I noticed after another rain I had water standing in my tire well once again, after the last leak my car started stalling on take off. I was entering onto a very busy street and it stalled as I was pulling out and almost got hit by a dump truck. I once again took the Jeep back to the dealer to have it fixed, they replaced the sun roof seal and the seals around the hatched, they said it was fixed. After another rain I noticed my Jeep is leaking again, when I turned on the a/c water started coming out of the defrost vent and my carpet was wet, and a strong smell of mold coming out my vents with the air. I took it back into the dealership and told them about the leak, and the water and smell of mold coming out of my a/c vents. I looked over the car with the service manager and we noticed black mold growing in the head liner she also was able to smell the mold coming out of my a/c unit. I also noticed that my car was cutting out again while driving. I am very concerned about a fire or some other major electrical part going out due to the water leaks that have occured. I am also worried about safety issues concerning the car stalling; and am worried it is going to cause an accident or health issues due to the black mold.
