3 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 06/22/2025

I received an alert on my insurance portal, that my vehicle type ( Jeep Patriot 2016) had a recall, s89 for the camshaft and crankshaft sensors . I noticed that my vehicle has the same issues that is caused by this recall. My vehicle has been stalling and the check engine light when off recently. I had it looked at and the obd reader displayed that there were misfires displaying in the cylinder and issues connected to the camshaft and crank shaft sensor at. I called the recall line but they stated it wasn’t associated with my specific car but I feel like my vehicle should be included in this recall due to the exact issue I am experiencing that is listed in the recall. My VIN is [xxx] . I feel I should be included and the issues are causing potential safety risks when driving. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

4 Equipment problem of the 2014 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 05/22/2025

The 2014 Jeep Patriot includes an active head restraint (ahr) that deploys during a rear end collision. On 5/22/2025 the driver's side ahr deployed in my 2014 Jeep Patriot while the vehicle was moving at approximately 5 miles per hour in a parking lot, when there was no collision. The malfunction caused the ahr to move forward and hit the driver in the head (which did result in a headache and sore neck for the driver). The ahr on the front passenger's side did not deploy, which indicates that this was a malfunction limited to the driver's side ahr. I have been advised by my local Jeep dealership that this is not a "covered" malfunction and will cost approximately $500 to replace the ahr, "assuming they can get the part in stock. " I was further advised that the warranty for this part was extended, but if it didn't malfunction within the covered period, then the owner is responsible for any later malfunction because it was "not a recall. ".

5 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 04/23/2025

On 3 separate occasions while driving the car will chime and abs, traction control & a third light (I think its the low tire) quickly blinks on and goes off again. The car will still be on and in motion. Today, the car shut off while idle. No lights were on prior and I had been driving for just under 10 minutes. After a period of 2-3 minutes, I tried to crank the engine again and it came on, no lights on dash. I drove to my destination.

6 Equipment problem of the 2013 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 03/05/2025

7 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 11/29/2024

There was safety recall -s89 on the 2016 Jeep Patriots - seems my vehicle was not affected however I have had to have it replaced 3 times - Aug 2021, November 2022 and again November 2024. Shouldn't this vehicle been part of the recall? if so, am I able to recoup any of the repair fees that I have paid?.

8 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 11/23/2024

I have had constant electrical issues with my vehicle ever since I bought it in 2018 and I've had to replace the tipm twice already and it's messing up again! this repair isn't cheap and I feel that Jeep mopar should issue a recall regarding the crappy tipms they put in this particular vehicle. First of all all the warning lights on the dashboard come off and on intermittentally for no reason and now the doors won't lock using the key fob and my horn doesn't work. And now my ac isn't even working and I don't know if it has something to do with the tipm or not? but I'm constantly getting an error on the dash that says no bus communication. I know I can't be the only owner of a 2016 Jeep Patriot latitude 2. 0 that is experiencing these issues. If anyone else had experienced these issues please send a message to the NHTSA so we can get this issue investigated and elevate it into a recall!.

9 Equipment problem of the 2013 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 10/19/2024

Drivers side head restraint deployed while driving without any viable cause or reason.

10 Equipment problem of the 2013 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 10/19/2024

Drivers side headrest deployed while I was driving.

11 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/09/2024

The horn stopped working 4 months after purchase I've had it for a year. It has a hard time accelerating when you're hopping on the freeway. There's also a wiring issue with the rear blinkers and taillight it works for a little bit then goes out off and on throughout the trip.

12 Equipment problem of the 2014 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/03/2024

I have sent in my Jeep Patriot in few years ago for recall that has to do with airbags issue. Jeep Patriot just reached 10 year old and now I am getting air bag light every time I turn my steering wheel while parked and while driving it keeps dining every min or less. I was told it may be clock spring in steering wheel and I believe I should not have to replace it being 165xxx miles and just hit 10 year mark. I have been replacing many other parts knowing its part of wear and tear but having to replace clock spring on not so old cars is very concerning for our safety when it comes to Jeep my Jeep is 2014 and has been well taken care of. I am upset finding there are recalls for wrangler for clock spring but none for Patriot. Please get back with me with possible fix for this. I know Jeep is one of best vehicles to have and I am starting to be worried if this going to be a common problems for Jeep.

13 Equipment problem of the 2011 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/02/2024

The airbag light keeps coming on and off consistently.

14 Equipment problem of the 2014 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/26/2024

Head rest active restraint system(ars) deployed on my passenger side front seat for my 2014 Jeep Patriot while it was parked. Looking at the head rest, the bar that keeps the ars in place and locked in place, broke out of the plastic housing that was holding the head rest in the correct place. When the plastic housing broke the ars deployed when the car was in park. If this had occured while driving it could have caused significant injury or an accident if the driver side head rest would have deployed while driving.

15 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/15/2024

The headrest deployed over night while sitting in the garage. There is a plastic piece that keeps the headrest from deploying. That piece is under 75 pounds of pressure and will eventually break. I have read of several people that had the same thing happen to them. Some deployed overnight while parked in their driveway or garage. I read where one person said his deployed while driving and hit him in the back of the head. He said he was lucky that he didn't hit anyone. The Jeep corporation knows about this flaw but refuses to issue a recall.

16 Equipment problem of the 2011 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 06/25/2024

The component that failed was the front, driver's side subframe. This component and the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The sudden and unexpected failure of the subframe on the vehicle, due to excessive rust corrosion, precipitated a series of hazardous events that significantly compromised not only my own safety but also the safety of others on the road. While driving at a low speed, the detachment of the wheel hub and cv axle joint led to a complete loss of vehicle control. This mechanical failure was further exacerbated by the total loss of transmission fluid, which leaked onto the road, potentially creating a slippery and dangerous surface for other road users. The culmination of these mechanical failures resulted in having been stranded in the middle of a busy intersection, a location where a major freeway on and off ramp intersect with a significant artery of traffic. This situation placed myself in immediate danger, exposed to the risk of collision from oncoming traffic. Moreover, the unexpected presence of my immobilized vehicle in the intersection also posed a significant risk to other drivers, who may have had to make sudden maneuvers to avoid a collision. This could have led to secondary accidents, endangering even more road users. The problem was confirmed by an independent insurance agent, and therefore, the vehicle and failed subframe were inspected by insurance representatives. There were no warning lamps or messages from the electronic vehicle information center, nor were other symptoms of the problem apparent immediately prior to the failure.

17 Equipment problem of the 2015 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 06/12/2024

My car will pull to the right no matter what I do. Tires rotated, air filled, etc it always pulls to the right hard. My electrical system, lights and radio, flicked on and off by themselves one night and now my radio is dead and lights are dim.

18 Equipment problem of the 2017 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

Repeated issues with the car refusing to increase in speed while driving and it feeling as though it’s the throttle body control however with the check engine light on it was scanned and found it was the computer. It is a known safety issue that the computer has a glitch that causes the car to have acceleration issues then the light for the throttle body control and check engine light to come on. This has occurred while driving on the highway which is exceedingly dangerous due to the speeds of 60-70 mph. The date below is the fourth time this has happened and it was on the freeway at 60-65mph. Previous times were at 50 and 70.

19 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 03/27/2024

Brought jepp Patriot 2016 to a car shop in suisun city, CA and they did a thorough diagnostics of my Patriot and couldn’t find out why my battery light was coming on. They checked the alternator and battery and they said they were fine. I was on a main street in suisun city and as I was turning to the left the car died on me and completely shut off. It was hard to turn wheels and hard to push the brakes and I had people push me out of the street into a sidewalk near a house. I then decided to try start it and it started and I was able to make it to my daughter’s house. My son-in-law and granddaughter used my car and hasn’t had the battery light come on yet but that has happened to me several times where it would come on and turn back off. There was only one incident where it died on me so far and I’m hoping it won’t do it again especially on a busier street. I can’t afford to bring it to dealership to see if they can find the reason why the battery lights comes off and on sporadically. I don’t know if any other Jeeps are having this issue but am asked to report it in case it does to happen to someone else.

20 Equipment problem of the 2017 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 02/08/2024

The head rest in the passenger seat basically popped open when we were driving. My fiancé said her head and neck hurt bad after that instance.

21 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 01/30/2024

Several incidents when driving where the vehicle hesitates then the rpms drop to zero and the vehicle does not accelerate when gas pedal is pushed. Vehicle does not die each time just does not react to gas pedal being applied and does not increase in speed. Only dashboard light that comes on is the loss of traction. Incident causes driver to have to pull off road, place vehicle in park, turn off and on. Then can drive again.

22 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 12/29/2023

From the day I purchased the vehicle on December 29 of 2023. I immediately heard a rattling noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle. I also noticed that the transmission had been catching or slipping or missing whenever it transfers gears it is getting worse by the day I have taken it to the original dealership at mnf auto sales in albuquerque and I have also taken it to the larry miller Jeep in albuquerque new mexico. They claim that the only thing wrong with the vehicle is the motor mounts after I left with my vehicle from being repaired, it continues to happen, and the transmission is getting worse day by day , I am afraid if I keep driving it much longer that it may cause an accident or damage the vehicle severely. I am trying to work with the dealership and they are telling me that multiple people have looked at it and that there’s nothing wrong with it however, that is false information , my vehicle has been in the service department for over 10 days at two different locations and basically the main dealership where I bought it from is telling me that they do not want to look at it and that it’s the type of transmission I have and there’s nothing wrong.

23 Equipment problem of the 2014 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 11/27/2023

Head restraint on passenger side deployed while not car. There was no collision. The car was parked in my drive. Chrysler avoids responsibility. My car has under 64,000 miles. It could have hurt a passenger if I was traveling. There should have been a recall. There are class suits on the problem with Chrysler vehicles.

24 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 10/20/2023

My air bag light keeps blinking off and on and my hood keeps rattling from coming loose in the front. And just like everyone my transmission doesn't act right they should have done recalled this car it was totally not worth 25000 dollars.

25 Equipment problem of the 2015 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 10/03/2023

The front head rest employed because the part broke inside.

26 Equipment problem of the 2017 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 10/03/2023

Had throttle body cleaned 300$ in Jan 2023. Having throttle body replaced oct 4 2023. Mechanic states an extra part is required due to redesign. Found a general recall on line dated June 2023. I had not been notified. . Costing me a few dollars under a $1000 to repair. Car almost died 3x from no power trying to go home.

27 Equipment problem of the 2014 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/18/2023

While driving multiple warning lights on the dashboard come on. At times the vehicle will stall and I have to wait 10-15 minutes before it will restart. At times the anti-theft system will wngage causing all interior components and dash lights to go out, I then have to pull over , disconnect the battery and pull the ignition fuse to reset the anti-theft system, after waiting approximately 15 minutes the vehicle will start and operate normally. While driving at times the vehicle will suddenly jerk very hard feeling like I hit a large speed bump, the warning lights on the dash will all come on briefly and the vehicle will resume driving normally. At times the vehicle stalls while idling. While driving with the accelerator pressed the fog lights will flash and the inerior fan will blow at a decreased speed, once the accelerator is released the fog lights glow normally and the interior fan will blow correctly until the vehicle slows below 18 mph at which time the interior fan will again decrease in functioning. This also affects the adapter and charging of my phone as it will not charge properly while plugged into the aux adapter. I believe there is some sort of electrical malfunction. I have replaced the vehicles ecm and crankshaft position sensor, and I am considering replacing the throttle position sensor and throttle pedal assembly. There are no active recalls listed for this vehicle at this time, although any one of these issues could potentially cause an accident with injuries especially on wet or icy road conditions, and given this vehicle is front wheel drive the temporary jolting from whatever is causing the vehicle issues could potentially cause a lose of control resulting in an accident. It should be noted that all of these issues began at approximately the same time period, and after reading through otgher complaints it would appear that there is some sort of significant electrical malfunction in these vehicles. Thank you for looking into this matter.

28 Equipment problem of the 2015 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/15/2023

My 2015 Jeep Patriot randomly loses power to the engine/stalls out nearly every time I make a trip. More specifically, the rpms will suddenly drop to zero. This has happened at every speed from 10 mph to 80 mph. Often I have to pull over, take the key out and lock/unlock the doors several times to get the engine to start back up. I have been stranded for as long as 45 minutes to an hour waiting for the vehicle to become operable again.

29 Equipment problem of the 2015 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/10/2023

Vehicle engine stopped while driving. This could lead to potential danger. Started about 1 year ago.

30 Equipment problem of the 2011 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/14/2023

The is corrosion on frame and crossbars my Jeep is rotting away, as 2nd owner with 85 thousand miles this shouldn’t be rusting away, dealer and Jeep will do nothing as saying corrosion warranty and extended coverage x69 front rear crossmembers expired.

31 Equipment problem of the 2015 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/10/2023

My transmission failed while going 65 on the interstate with no warning. The only warning lights that were on, was the check engine light and the overheat light, which only came on about 30 seconds before transmission failure. The vehicle lost all power, which made it reduce speed, extremely fast, and wouldn’t gain speed at all which almost caused the vehicle behind me to hit me at a high rate of speed. I had a hypersensitive special needs child in my car at the time, and the very loud, high pitch whiny noises has actually had him struggling since it happened. I am in extremely bad health as well, with a heat intolerance and this Jeep stranded myself, and my special needs child on the side of the interstate for approximately two hours because I was out of town and had to wait for someone to travel to me. Temp that day was approximately 90 degrees. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle was checked out by two service centers, one being a certified Jeep dealership, and both confirmed that my transmission failed due to overheating transmission because of hot weather, and that was an ongoing issue with other Patriots as well. Spent about three hours, trying to get a hold of Jeep, the representatives are rude and disrespectful, and they wanted me to pay more money for a specific diagnostic test that they required because it would better help them, but not benefit me at all.

32 Equipment problem of the 2017 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/07/2023

This is an update to my claim report #11532893 filed on July 18th, 2023, regarding the spontaneous deployment of the ahr injuring and startling me, believing I was being attacked from behind. I have undergone an acdf c4-7 fusion, tbi diagnosis, and speech therapy treatments for cognitive speech impairment, depression, ptsd and anxiety Chrysler stated to me that, in essence, there is virtually zero chance of harm from a random deployment of a defective ahr. I have learned that the fca now admits there is oil contamination and that they began washing parts with alcohol in August of 2017 to rid the parts of potential contaminants. The dealership, upon inspection, stated they could order a new ahr, which could take months to receive and fix, but refused to replace the un deployed passenger ahr under warranty because it did not deploy. My wife nor I was instructed it would be unsafe to drive in front of the random activated ahr until it could be replaced leading us to believe it was safe fully extended and a logical question, why the needeployment?. When my wife drove me to doctor appointments pre- and post-acdf recovery, the passenger ahr was tied down with 110# rated paracord, and I sat with a pillow and the back down slightly, which I believe was not safe either; my neurosurgeon was shocked I had to sit in front of it. We opted not to replace the activated driver's side ahr, believing it's safer fully extended. I discovered fearful people making tutorials on how to remove the ahr's as well, not a safe alternative is tying with zip ties that could cause lacerations. That is why I opted for paracord. I noticed my wife driving, her head still about an inch from the extended ahr. I asked if it was comfortable, and she said yes; I thought of the crash test dummy head placements, far enough away the ahr doesn't even make contact when deploying so fast, I like the idea of catching, parachuting the head back. Is anyone asking common sense questions at NHTSA?.

33 Equipment problem of the 2017 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/07/2023

Before this drivers headrest exploded on me striking my neck I was already totally disabled with known cervical issues from congenital spinal stenosis. I've had 3 disk diaections and cage pedicle screws fixation of l4 l5 s1. Previous to this exploding headrest injury I was attempting to get off social security obtaining online google certifications. Friday the 7th of July not long after dark my wife and I going to town for food. My wife already got in passenger seat of our 2017 Jeep Patriot she bought new, no rear end collisions. As soon as I got in driver's seat and in motion of shutting door as soon as it shut boom striking me in back of neck head, first thought is an attacker was hiding behind me and hit me in head with log. I thought I was going to be killed or knocked out and my wife attacked next. I twisted around to fight but nobody there, next thought I was shot and wife shot as she was screaming what's going on. I was holding my head my neck and got out of Jeep, opened back door and seen the headrest, it looked not so menacing. My wife feared I sufferd a cuncission I wasn't acting normal and agreed to go if paramedics suggest I do. Firemen examined the headrest and medica said they don't advise if someone should or shouldn't go. A fireman said the headrest is padded and concussions come from hard surfaces. I refused and seen a chiropractor who could fit me in next day as I was really sore, flared up my lower back as well. Speech was difficult and stumbling on words. The chiropractor said he wouldn't touch my neck without an mri and stated he believes I have a cuncission. He sked why I didn't go to er and told him what the fireman said. He said boxing its illigal to punch to back of head and boxing gloves are padded. At home after chiropractor who couldn't do much and didn't mess with my neck because he was afraid to I called ambulance again, I was diagnosed at hospital er with cuncission, sciatica r side hip down leg. Hearing issues and speech.

34 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 06/19/2023

I had the catalyst converter recall fixed in 2020 and now I am having to fix/replace the converter they replaced with the recall not even 3 years later and have been told that it wouldn’t be associated with the recall or replaced under warranty with it even though the life span on a catalyst converter is usually around 10 years not just little over 2 years old I shouldn’t be having to get it replace and pay the costs of a more recently fixed recall.
