36 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 06/14/2023

I believe it's the engine or could have something to do with fuel. Car shuts off while in idle, mainly while sitting at a red light it shuts off/down completely. I then have to turn the switch to the on position to recrank it. It starts with no problem at all. Happens almost everyday. I've taken it to have it checked and they can't find any issues. It's been this way since I've gotten the car. Still no one can find the problem.

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

Key takeaways from the information you’ve provided: 1. Your engine’s rpm drops to zero randomly while driving and idling. 2. The engine loses power, accompanied by the traction control light flashing. 3. Power steering is lost within 10 seconds after the power loss. 4. Transmission range sensor (nss) was replaced, but there might be an adjustment issue. 5. Shifting from reverse to neutral is difficult, while shifting from drive to neutral is fine. 6. Taillights don’t change during difficulty shifting down from reverse. 7. A code reader showed an abs code: c1221 after the nss replacement. 8. The negative terminal clamp may need replacement. 9. Engine issues might be related to temperature or transmission shifts.

39 Equipment problem of the 2010 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

I was on the freeway going about 75mph when all of a sudden it lost acceleration I couldn't get it to go more to 35 or 40 mph in and gear. Pulled to the side and let it sit for like 15 mins and it started up normal drove fine for a little bit. Then I went the back way home and didn't go over 50mph and it was fine got home and parked. Next morning went to leave and like 5 miles down the road only doing like 40 mind you. It completely goes out no acceleration just revs. Towed it home now it still starts and goes into gear but won't move just acts like its still in park.

40 Equipment problem of the 2014 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 02/15/2023

My Jeep would suddenly jerk forward almost rear ending people at red lights without any warning. While traveling at approximately 45 mph the engine light came on my Jeep. As I went to pull over the engine started bucking/jerking then the engine light flashed. I was barely able to pull over on the side of the road before the car completely stalled. I had to have towed to a dealership as it was no longer drivable. I was almost on the highway. The dealership said I had total engine failure and should buy a new car. The vehicle was not repaired. I associate the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 13v552000 (engine) that has been open since of 11/2013. But my vehicles VIN “wasn’t included”. I was driving with my four small kids in my Jeep.

41 Equipment problem of the 2015 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 01/28/2023

I'm having acceleration issues and the roms are going too high before shifting. And the steering column starts shaking on the highway after o get going fast like 45 or so. There's one light on and it's my low tire pressure light, but the tires aren't really low. And the issue has been occuring on and off periodically since after I had my brake job in November. It might be an issue with the brake job because I can hear the brakes rubbing. But I sought advice from a mechanic and he thinks its the tcm that needs to be serviced. The issue hasn't occured for a couple weeks and then it occured again today.

42 Equipment problem of the 2015 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 11/28/2022

The airbag light is on and I am afraid it will deploy at any time. The dealership and manufacturer say the part they need is on backorder with the supplier, but it has been 3 months since the problem was diagnosed, so it has not been repaired.

43 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 09/22/2022

I was driving to work and noticed that I wasn't getting any power when I accelerated from being stoped at a stop sign and when I got to another stop sign it felt like the brakes where still on for a few secs then the car stalled on ne. I crunk it up and drove about 3 more miles and the car started overheating so I pulled over and shut it off and waited for it to cool down. It hasn't been able to crank since I shut it off. I've checked my fluid and other minor trouble shooting. No luck.

44 Equipment problem of the 2014 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 09/19/2022

Deep cut on fingers due to flaking paint on interior door handle. The chrome on the interior door handle is starting to chip away and is equivalent to a sharp aluminum can.

45 Equipment problem of the 2011 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 09/15/2022

Jeep Patriot 2011 latitude with severe corrosion to front and rear subframe assemblies. Noted for recent emergence of clunking sound on front end when passing over dips and bumps. Made arrangement for towing of vehicle to personal mechanic to check out and also make state inspection. Noted to have severe fracture of front subframe then resting on axle and wheel assemblage parts. Rear subframe member in same condition with ability to poke holes through structural member. Conditiion resulted in failure to pass inspection. Vehicle deemed unsafe to drive. Further deterioration expected with potential for loss of steering or wheel falling off. Liability for accident or bodily harm in potential failure noted. Vehicle later towed to another mechanic with same determination. Vehicle towed to local body shop where insurance agent denied accountability for collision or comprehensive coverage. Damage initially assessed at about $900 per part with accessory components to be added at discovery. Issue is well known to manufacturer via many complaint website postings I have since learned. Vehicle towed to another body shop which will assess and complete repair if practical. Second shop said they had repaired similar vehicle for same problem recently. Noted that subframes were manufactured in mexico. This is inappropriate for regional application in pennsylvania noted for harsh climate and road treatment. That vehicle was restored with canada manufactured part of heavier gauge and quality. My vehicle is low mileage at 79000 miles, garage kept, driven locally only;engine fine. I have 2008 town and country chryler and 2018 Chrysler pacifica with no obvious signs of such wear. The corrosive factor accelerated since last inspection in Dec 2021. There were no warning lights or signs upon emergence of the problem. This is serious safety issue where unexpectedly steering loss or wheel displacement could result in accident to self or others or crash.

46 Equipment problem of the 2017 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/22/2022

The sunroof leaked into the lights above the driver and passenger seats. As soon as the vehicle started to move this cause the water to dump out of the lights onto the occupants of the vehicle and the vehicle controls. The sunroof can also be triggered to open randomly due to the water buildup where the electrical controls are located.

47 Equipment problem of the 2015 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/22/2022

Driver side ahr deployed while vehicle was parked in the driveway. Albeit there want anyone in the car and thank god it wasn’t being driven but this is safety issue in my opinion. I’ve looked into resetting it and attempted to but then noticed that the system wasn’t activated and the plastic that holds the straining pin in has broke. Now I’ve stuck with a deployed headrest and a bill to replace it when this is clearly a fiat Chrysler problem.

48 Equipment problem of the 2014 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/21/2022

While I was removing groceries from my car the passenger seat active headrest system deployed. When I looked inside I could see broken pieces of plastic and knew that this was unable to be reset. Thankfully I was not driving the vehicle but would be terrified that something like that could happen while the car was in use resulting in a collision. I am now worried and suspicious that this could also happen to the drivers headrest system.

49 Equipment problem of the 2015 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/21/2022

Vehicle stalls in moving traffic. Cuts off and traction light comes on. Many owners have reported the problem with continuous replacing parts and the issue comes back in a day or so.

50 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/15/2022

While operating the vehicle up to 45 mph the engine will stall, but the car remains on. The wheel locks and pushing on the pedal does not work. I usually turn on my hazard lights on turn the car off and back on. By doing so, someone may not be paying attention and slam into the back of my vehicle and I have held up traffic because of this issue. After restarting the car drives and operates normally. I would also like to report shuddering, and jerking while driving at any speeds.

51 Equipment problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 05/29/2022

I submitted a form yesterday and forgot to mention that there have been a few other odd things about the Jeep which I'm not sure how to explain. 1. There has, since day 1 of my purchase, test drive, etc, always been some weird whistling sound when driving. Very light, like the kind of whistle made with just your tongue at the roof of the mouth. Not a "full" whistle sound. 2. When going uphill, the engine squeals. And honestly has poor acceleration uphill in general. Very poor. But I thought it was how this make and model is. 4 cylinders aren't known for their awesome power and speed, after all. 3. Occasionally, the Jeep "tugs"? seemingly like how manuals switch between gears, but mine is an automatic. It does so unprovoked, not by my using the cvt option, randomly, at any speed. 4. Occasionally there would be a "dropping" kind of sound. Can't remember any particular details about that, but I think it may have happened more in the summer months. Again. All of these things, other than the last, had always been happening. I attributed it to make and model idiosyncrasies. I have noticed other recall issues listed with this Jeep that I glanced over, did not read them. Just so you know. But, after my engine went out, it made me reconsider all of these "odd" things that are probably connected. Oh yeah. . . Also. . . 5. I had to replace my engine throttle, supposedly brakes plus says it's also "normal" for this model. 6. My engine blew very shortly after an oil pan gasket fix, which I put off for a while. Makes me think there's a pressure problem with the engine in general, when combined with the other "symptoms", on hindsight. Like I said, I was an oil tech for jiffy lube, I am not a mechanic. But this experience may have taught me a thing or two about suspicious auto mechanisms.

52 Equipment problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 05/29/2022

Along with complaints 11466544 11466577 I want to add that I bought this car in November 2015. The engine blew in may 2021 with 104k miles. Not at all what would expect from a 2010+ model vehicle. And another thing . . . . I'm used to needing more regular tune ups. So, once a year -ish. . . I'd take the Jeep in for spark plug replacement, etc. Well, when I switched to the other brkes plus closer to my home, the tech told me that's not required for this Jeep. We actually kind of got into it. But, we're able to amicably come to agreement. Anyways, the other brakes plus did so without argument, at least twice. After me and dude from brakes plus had our lil tiff. . . I reevaluated my owners manual, and confirmed the spark plug thing. He was right. But one thing I always found odd. . . Was that transmission fluid replacement was not recommended untilb130,000. Did I find that odd?? yes! because I've was an oil tech at one point in my life. But! if that's what the manual says. . . Who am I to argue with that? I mention this because that was one of the things I saw when perusing over recalls, etc. A reviewer recommended to not wait until the manual's recommendation. Who was this person? idk. Is this accurate? the 130k thing? because when I got into my "argument" at brakes plus, my exact verbiage was I'm here for a tune up, I'm here to get done whatever needs to get done on this car. If manufacturer information is incorrect, that's a problem. I've had 2 cars repossessed. It was extremely important to me to maintain this vehicle and pay it off. I do have a little bit of a fondness for working on engines. No, I have not done anything to this engine myself. I know this isn't some top of a model line car, but it seemed like the perfect kind of engine to tinker on someday. But not at 104,000 miles. Not on a well maintained vehicle. I would also think that if the manual recommends 120000k trannie fluid replacement for the first time that the engine would last at least until then? lol.

53 Equipment problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 05/29/2022

Ah. . . Yes. And the most absolute weirdest thing of all about this Jeep- the manual that came with the Jeep (which I cant seem to find) stated 85 gas is recommended. Did I think that was weird? yes! it's a truck. Kinda heavy. . . Didn't expect 85 gas. But it's a 4cylinder, so ok. That manual was also not very thorough, for lack of a better term, so I purchased one. That manual stated 87. Put 87 in it. The Jeep lost acceleration power. Couldn't get above 35mph. Boomerang only takes 85. Weird. Didn't put too much thought into it. If I remember correctly, this issue always resolved on its own somehow. Not sure why. Anyhow. That has happened about 4 or 5 times under my ownership. Every now and again, after regular maintenance, I would kind of check it, to see. On several occasions, when I took it in for regular oil changes, I'd mention that issue, no one had anything to say about it. Other than it was weird. Agreed. Aside from the issues mentioned in complaints 11466583 11466544 11466577 it ran fine. I never considered those issues as disrupting my driving needs. I'm pretty much a city driver. Jobs were close by. Groceries. Occasional mountain and hiking trips- drives out of town, never towed anything. Thinking back to when I fixed my engine throttle and was told that would probably be a recurring theme, bc it's a Patriot, that whole gas thing really started nagging at me. Ok, Jeep gave me something to tinker on. No biggie. It's almost a 10 year old car. Something's bound to happen. Uh- but not a whole blown engine, that's for sure. This was, however, within the first year of covid, and I was driving considerably less, so that concern subsided. 3-4 months later, fixed oil pan gasket. 2-3 months after that, engine blew. Lastly, unless I remember something else- over the years I've seen numerous Patriots on the side of the highway and wondered what kinds of issues they had. Weird? yes. My engine literally never stalled out until last year. I must've been something right.

Ah- yes, the absolute most weirdest thing about this Jeep. When putting the recommended 87 gas in the tank, it loses acceleration power. The manual that came with it (which I cant seem to find) stated 85. Did I think that was weird? yes! it's a truck, kinda heavy, but it is a 4 cylinder- so ok Jeep. That manual, however, was not very thorough, so I purchased one. That one stated 87. Put 87 in it. Nope. Boomerang only takes 85. My engine never literally stalled out until last year. Weird? yes.

55 Equipment problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 05/28/2022

Something is wrong with the engine. I was told the engine is blown. I've maintained my vehicle and completed recommended repairs by brakes plus. I'd like to mention that as a former lube tech for jiffy lube, I am familiar with oil top offs. Naturally, I periodically checked my dip stick to confirm oil levels. It always read at an acceptable level. Did I think it was weird? no, because I'm not a mechanic. I just thought that's how Jeeps are. Go Jeep! I'm a fan. . . Well, my engine blew. Took it to brakes plus,l (towed), after a few check ups (towed each time)asked the techs how much oil was in the tank. Was told 2 quarts. I'm thinking that should have been reflected somehow on the dipstick. It wudnt. Since my car's been dead, thought I'd "experiment" with the oil readings. I have not driven the Jeep. Anyhow, put a quart in- low and behold. . . It reads way above the max fill marker. As far as I know, there's only about 3 quarts in there. Also, my engine always had this 'tick' . Again, did not find it weird, thought that's how Jeeps are. Noticed it on day one, asked the salesman, he stated that's normal for the Patriot. After this issue happened, I've found several youtube videos with explanations of valve cover adjustments being needed, cheap fix, supposedly. I've been quoted 4000-9000 for engine replacement. The valve adjustment thing. . I don't know, maybe they have selective hearing, or 4-9k sounds better, cuz no one has even acknowledged that I mentioned that, or cared to confirm. Regardless, the dipstick is wrong. Seems pretty important. Especially if my engine is, in fact, blown.

56 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

The drivers side active head restraint deployed on its own while sitting in my driveway , also it will not reset looks as if some of plastic parts have failed.

57 Equipment problem of the 2015 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 04/27/2022

I have purchased a 2015 Jeep Patriot from sunrise car dealer it has been 3 months now I took it back to the dealer they couldn't find anything wrong with it the car cut off in the middle of traffic in the middle of the expressway with a big 18-wheeler behind me scared me to death. I can see why they sold it to me without any warranty. I took it to a car repairment person ran a test on it couldn't find anything wrong with it. No codes were found, we took the car for a ride in the air and the radio didn't cut him off but as soon as I got back in it down the road it cut off again several times before I made it home. Please tell me if I can take the car back and trade it in for another car. Help.

58 Equipment problem of the 2015 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 04/18/2022

While driving the car rpm dropped to zero, I pressed the gas pedal, and rpms went back to normal engine continued to work. The crank shaft sensor was replaced, it drove for another month (approximately) before it began with the same issue. This time I was driving on the highway (twice). The third time I was on a busy street when it happened with complete loss of power and the stability control light came on. This is so dangerous and could possibly cause an accident. After looking into this issue, I have found that this is not a common occurrence and there is even a recall for this exact reason for the 2016 Jeep Patriots. The vehicle was taken to the local Jeep dealership, and they stated there was no way of knowing what the issue is without the check engine light coming on. I find this hard to believe knowing that there are many instances of this happening and a recall on a newer model for the same thing. They replaced the crank shaft sensor (which had already been replaced) and two cam shaft sensors, replaced the catalytic converter that was recalled and the passenger side seat which had deployed. We were charged nearly $800. This is outrageous considering this is a dangerous issue that has been recalled on the 2016 models.

59 Equipment problem of the 2011 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 04/14/2022

Subframe rust so bad that the car has subsequently been deemed unsafe to drive. It is available for inspection. Safety put at risk due to insufficient support of frame at contact points of steering and stability mechanisms. Presently, vehicle has. Not been inspected by anyone other than myself and personal mechanic. There was absolutely no safety light, warnings or otherwise to indicate a problem. This apparently has been an ongoing issue with this year/make/model which absolutely needs to initiate a recall.

Jeep sucks so does dealership.

61 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 12/16/2021

Yes I got a oil change now the warning light comes on change oil and I talk to others that drive a vehicle like mine and they have the same issue it’s time for a recalled on it before it caused more problems thanks.

62 Equipment problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 12/02/2021

On Dec 2 2021 wile driving the vehicle shut off my saftey and the saftey of others were put at risk as I was almost rear ended by a truck serviced at a repair shop they replaced the evap system and the charcol filter but were unsure of the reason why it shut off and would not restart vehicle had a quater tank of gas at the time and would not restart the next day I added more fuel and it started but it had two warning lights present.

63 Equipment problem of the 2014 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 10/01/2021

I believe the roll over safety valve inside the gas tank is faulty, and have noticed many others having the same issue in forums. The vehicle will not accept fuel, and acts as if it is full. Sometimes if you hit the bottom of the fuel tank with a rubber mallet, the valve will unstick and accept fuel again for a short while.

64 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 09/14/2021

Faulty control arm/ball joints ( all in one part together for ball joint and control arm) first time I took it in was Jan 2021 the two months later now this is the 3rd time now the car dealership is stating the faulty part ( control arm/ ball join) mechanic stated both times that that parts were faulty. Causing damage to tires that are not safe and I have to pay out of pocket for new tires when the parts are faulty which the parts were covered under my warranty but tire were not. . . So I believe since the parts that are faulty that caused damaged I should not be liable for buying the new tires did to faulty parts causing the damage.

65 Equipment problem of the 2011 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 09/14/2021

Every single time after putting gas, my car wont go further than 10 feet without turning off/stalling. Some times it wont turn back on and takes several tries to get it back up and running. I feel at risk for my life and those in the car with me because not only does it stall but my steering wheel locks everytime and I am unable to move or do anything. God forbid one day it stops and a car is headed in my direction I will be stuck in place. I have read online multiple people have had this issue but no one can seem to find a definitive solution. This started to happen around winter of 2019/spring 2020 and has been happening ever since. The date I recorded below is the most recent time it's occurred.

66 Equipment problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/25/2021

The transmission on my 2012 Jeep Patriot stopped working after I took it to the dealership for a recall. My husband and I noticed a noise shortly after we took it home from the dealership. Then when I was driving on the freeway the car stopped accelerating and the transmission started to make noises. It was confirmed by the dealership that the problem was with the transmission.

67 Equipment problem of the 2011 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/10/2021

Structural issue/rust - engine cradle - front cross member rusted through on underside of Jeep. The car broke down while we were traveling and had to have a cross member replaced at a dealership. The car ran but was noisy and unsafe to drive, and we were 4 hours from home. Despite having an oil change recently, we were not warned of the issue. The replacement cost about $1500 out of pocket.

Filled gasoline up and had car idle while driving. Had to place car in park, turn ignition off and back on to get it to turn back on. This happened two times and happens everytime I fill up gas in car. Other Patriots have reported same issue and I have been very close to accidents due to this.

70 Equipment problem of the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 04/05/2021

When my car first started having problems it shut off when at a drive through. Then it started happening on the highway when I slow down to make a turn or stop at a traffic light with no warning light just shut off. Then it began shutting off just during normal short driving. I would be going 40-60 on the freeway and the steering wheel would lock up & my car would start shutting off. I was still able to engage the brake, safely move my car to the shoulder, put it on park, then restart it, then proceeded on my mission. This past week it started dying when I was in bumper to bumper traffic but this time only the tire yellow warning light came on & the steering wheel locked up & I tried to step on the brake pedal but the Jeep continued to roll until it decided to stop on its own. Fortunately, I was able to move it to the shoulder of the freeway while the Jeep was still moving. Once my Jeep was safely on the shoulder I put it on park then turned the ignition off and then turned it back on & would keep going like normal. On Monday, April 5, 2021, I was parked at work & when I tried to leave for home I turned my Jeep on and it stalled immediately, so I turn the ignition off & back on but it started to shake and very choppy but it never actually started so I had it towed home because I strongly felt my personal "life safety" compromised and felt very insecure driving it on the freeway. These incidents happened several times throughout the last 1&1/2 years.
