general problems of the 2017 Jeep Renegade - part 2

Engine is burning oil. One recall issued and answered with a software update. Update has not fixed problem. Dealership did an oil consumption test. Dealership said it passed despite the fact it lost half a quart of oil in 1500 miles. My oil change is now right around the corner and it's over a quart low on oil. Oil light only comes on when it's just shy of bone dry. It is not normal or safe to have this much oil consumption in such a short amount of time.

I was on the expressway and all of a sudden I couldn’t accelerate. The engine completed died. I just used a little smarts to get off before it completely stopped. No warning lights no warning at all.

The vehicle will go about 80 miles then just completely shut down while driving. It can be restarted but will continue to die unless you turn it off for at least 1 day very dangerous.

The component involved involves the oil. My Jeep keeps running out of oil to the point where we have to keep putting more in. A couple times the car has turned off because of this problem. I brought the car to my mechanic only to find out the oil was completely gone. I’m lucky the motor didn’t go. I do have the oil changed every 3,000 miles but after only 2000 miles I get the message saying I need an oil change. The car is only 6 years old and only has 36,000 miles on it. I don’t what is going on but to me it seems there is a leak somewhere. I am afraid to drive it.

Engine uses excessive amounts of oil. We took the car in twice to do an oil consumption test, which resulted in one quart per 1,000 miles. The dealer says this is normal. This is a five year old car with 60,000 miles on it, which is average. We have other fca products that consume imperceptible amounts of oil between scheduled oil changes (every six months or 10,000 miles). I have old cars with hundreds of thousands of miles that don't consume oil to this extent. Maybe it's normal for this vehicle or, more precisely, this engine, but it is not normal for the average car.

Also, while driving on the freeway at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle suddenly lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who replaced the alternator. Also, the vehicle had experienced various intermittent electrical failures where the doors locks, key fob, and instrument cluster would not operate. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed the failure as due to an electrical failure in the entertainment system. The entertainment system was replaced. The failure mileage was 20,000.

Went to start my Jeep, started & stalled. Oil pan had rusted & all oil came out with no evidence from instrument panel that I had a problem at anytime before or after. When I called the dealership I bought it from they said they seen a lot of this. Was no longer under warranty as it only covered up to 60,000 miles. It would cost me out of pocket a little over $500. Took it to my private mechanic to fix as my experience with Jeep service departments is there is no service. I'm not sure of the difference in price between my mechanic & the dealer.

My engine cooling system is malfunctioning. My safety is at risk and can put others at risk while I am driving because the engine can permanently malfunction I lose control of my car. I have let the dealer at my local center costa mesa California Jeep dealership and the representative did not help with my situation. The dealership installed a new engine due to a recall letter I received for my vehicle. I believe its the dealerships responsibility to fix the engine cooling system problem since they have just replaced a new engine on my vehicle. The problem first appeared since the day I picked up my vehicle from the dealership. I smelled coolant liquid from the first day and advisor just said that its normal to smell coolant because I just got a new engine installed for my vehicle.

Vehicle shuts off while driving as well as taking turns. Just shuts off with no warning. After it shuts off the lightning bolt in parentheses (electronic throttle control system) comes on, then goes away. Car shows as still running, but won't move. The low oil gauge comes on and then car stops moving. Very unsafe for vehicle to just "stop moving" or "shut off" in the middle of driving, or in the middle of an intersection. When this happens, I have to put the car in park, turn it off and then start it again. It usually takes several attempts to get it to start. It happens when I’m going at a slow rate of speed.

When I am driving the car, it jerks. I have all my maintenance up to par. The dealership can find nothing wrong with it.

My car is stalling as I drive. It is completely shutting off. I had recall w84 performed. The problem is believed to be the recall ub2. This has been confirmed by a dealer. I am afraid for my life and believe that this defect will likely cause a crash.

Car is hesitating and bucking, shaking. Engine light came on and stayed on. Engine light flashes intermittently. It is available upon request. I see that some 2017-2018 Renegades had an engine recall but it doesn't show up on this web site for this VIN. I didn't see a "code" but not sure where I would see that anyway. This began yesterday when we were 80 miles from home. Made it back.

I have a 2017 Jeep Renegade. The engine needs to be completely replaced due to faulty manufactured engine. It would randomly turn off or stall, or sometimes engine kept turning and wouldn’t start. The bearings broke off inside the engine and now Jeep is trying not to cover it and I can’t get any help after speaking to 7 diff case managers. There has been zero help from them in regards to their liability in this. There is already a class action lawsuit filed, in 2020. It is sad that they are handling clients this way. I was very nice and I work in customer service so I understand what is possible etc. The Jeep mechanic locally , called on my case to verify and tell them that my engine needs to be replaced as a direct correlation of the recalled parts and that they were on back order for months. During those months I tried to have recalled parts replaced and couldn’t because the parts are on back order. During this time my warranty became invalid, because I exceeded 60,000 miles. I’m currently at 62,000 miles. At the time I attempted to have recalls fixed I was under 60,000 miles. Secondly the warranty expires in 2022. Regardless , the recalls caused the engine needing to be replaced. Please advise what my options are to ensure I don’t have to pay to replace the whole engine. Thank you.

Vehicle stalled after overheating and now has a blown head gasket.

The car only has 23k miles and the engine cooling fan has ceased to work. I had to stop on the side of the road for over an hour when I noticed the coolant temperature rising to dangerous levels. Jeep issued a recall for this part on Renegades but my VIN was not included in the recall for some reason even though it was obviously affected.

The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel pump needed needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was still awaiting a call back. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving approximately 60-70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact’s daughter exited the vehicle and pushed the vehicle to the side of the roadway. The contact’s daughter turned off the vehicle and waited approximately 15 minutes to restart the vehicle. The vehicle resumed normal functions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine was consuming oil. The engine oil was replaced however, after 1,500 miles the failure recurred, and the engine was replaced with a new engine. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

We brought the car for the second appointment to complete the mopar w80 recall which was supposed to be done after 1500 miles from the first service. The tech tj from autonation Chrysler, Jeep ram in katy texas told me on 07/28/21 that our car was the first car that had come up that was consuming oil and that he thought the engine needed to be replaced. He said the request had been sent to mopar for approval. On 07/29/21 he called and stated that mopar had instructed that since we went 400 miles above the 1500 miles required for the second appointment, that we needed to drive it for another 1500 miles and bring it back. The tech confirmed the engine is consuming oil, we are told we are past 400 miles but asked to go another 1500 miles before the issue is addressed. This places my family and my daughter who drives this car at risk. Hope you can help address the situation.

While driving Jeep will turn off on its own and oil pressure low warning turns on. This is really unsafe since it’s happened twice and on a busy street.

The 2. 4 liter tiger shark engine, burns one quart of oil every 1000 miles. Mine has only 32800 miles on it. Jeep sent me a email telling me about this. It affects 2015 thru 2020 year models with is engine.

Engine stalled. Restarted after fifteen minutes then quickly stalled again. Restarted again after thirty minutes (and continued operating as we turned around to return home. We were on the shoulder in heavy traffic on I-70 east of loveland pass in colorado with light trailer in tow, dealer reports it could not reproduce the problem. Vehicle was inspected by dealer service department. No symptoms or warning lamps came on prior to stalling. Engine temperature gauge was in normal range. Fuel level was between quarter and half tank. So, no warning beforehand.

It start to slow down then speed up.

Transmission seems like its slipping when driving. Car jerks forward. . Lurging forward. . I had a car that had transmission problems so im aware of how car acts when its transmission problem. Also electrical problem. Car sound when music is playing jumps from all speakers sound coming out to just one speaker the passenger side speaker in front. .

Three times now the vehicle has simply died while being driven. No warning lights or sensors; just stopped running. All three times the vehicle had just been started, idled for a couple of minutes, and then died within three minutes of being put in motion on a city street while driving straight ahead at speeds between 15-30 mph.

Tl- the contact owned a 2017 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated when picking up a person at a community center. The contact stated when the passenger enter the vehicle. The vehicle just accelrated on it's own. The contact stated they depressed on the brake pedal but the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle went a cross street and went over a guard rail. The contact stated their front driver side tire came off of the vehicle. The air bag did not deployed, there was no warning lights illuninated from the vehicle. Medical treatment was needed at the scene the contact was only person injuried when their left eye lid was cut which needed stiches. The contact was taken to hospital by ambulanace for their stiches. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed by terry towing service. The vehicle later towed to schaefer autobody centers (9902 watson rd, sappington, mo 63126) who inspected the vehicle and deemed the vehicle as a totalled loss. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 29,456. Vw.

Bought 2017/Jeep Renegade September 2021 with only 17000 miles fro Jeep dealer in anderson SC before my first oil change was due I had to put 5 quarts of oil in it. It was shutting off while in motion saying low pressure oil light never came on add oil been running fine.

I received a recall notice for engine consuming too much oil at which around the same time I was driving when the engine stalled on me in the middle of the road. I went to the dealer and they mentioned that engine was empty of oil. An oil consumption test was done and yielded normal results according to the dealership. Fresh oil change was given and after 3000 miles, the same problem occurred: engine stalled on me in the middle of the road way before the manufacturer recommended oil change interval. I called fca Chrysler manufacturer who told me to go to another dealership. I go to another dealership and they said the same thing: oil consumption is normal. Dealer has been overfilling oil to compensate for the oil consumption so that when I return for oil changes or to complain, the oil leves appear to be normal.

The motor quit running while turning onto an on-ramp (25mph), and the readout on the dash said � low oil pressure �. I had to come to a complete stop, put it in park, and press the brake and push the start button. It started up after a couple of tries, and I drove onto the interstate without it reoccurring. This has happened twice now. It also happened on 01/11/2021.

While in motion the vehicle has shut off in the middle of the street numerous times. . Once while turning the vehicle has turned off.

There is a recall on the 2017 Renegade but somehow my Jeep isn’t on the list even though I am having the exact issue - they think the oil pump isn’t working correctly. The vehicle just stops driving when in drive. Which is terrifying. It happened twice and we contacted fca twice to have them do nothing. They said we have to drive the vehicle for 2000 miles in order to read the oil level - which is nuts. I can’t get in a vehicle that just stops working while driving, it’s a huge liability. It’s been sitting at the service department in a dealership for a year and a half and no one will help.

I have a 2017 Jeep Renegade latitude. I bought it in 2020 and had it for 2 weeks when the engine blew up. There was a recall on the engine so Chrysler paid for the “new” engine. Two weeks after I got it back it started stalling out when I was driving down the road. I had a new starter put in it and now when it decides to shut down while driving the brakes come on, including the emergency brakes, it comes to a screeching halt, and the gear shift throws itself from drive into park. I just want to either get my car fixed or stellantis to trade with me to make things right. It is very unsafe to drive. Especially when you don’t know when it is going to do this because it doesn’t happen every time you drive the car.

I was driving my car as an automatic not shifting it. All of a sudden the info section says down shift as I was turning, I was in motion the whole time, I did not stop to turn. And it dies. Right in the road while driving. I have looked and my VIN doesnt come up as a recall but this OH my god I was lucky I was on a back road to be ok, if I had been on a busy road or interstate my family and I would be dead. What is wrong with it. I need this fixed ASAP. This is my only means of transportation. Help me!!!!!!!.
