During fueling, after the auto-shutoff of the fuel pump stops the fuel dispensing, fuel overflows (approx. 1/2-1 gallon) from the fuel tank past the still in-place pump handle causing fuel to spill on the side of the vehicle, the ground, and on anyone standing directly beside the fuel inlet.
When refueling my 2007 Jeep wrankler (4dr) the fuel will overflow back out of the tank without warning. This occurs when locking the fuel pump handle as some places allow and when fueling up manually. There is no way to know when to stop fueling before this occurs uhnless you try to remove the nozzle and look into the fill hole while slowly pumping the fuel.

My car was parked on an incline of about 20 degrees and I had 1/4 tank of gas. When I went to start the car it wouldn't turn on. All the lights on the dash came on, but the engine wouldn't turn over. The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that intermittently, fuel would spew back from the filler tank during refueling. The contact stated he would have to hold the fuel pump aggressively when refueling to keep the gasoline from spilling. The dealer stated that the rollover valve on the fuel tank was fractured and would only become worse. The dealer stated the failure was not a defect but a warranty issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 2,700 and the current mileage was 33,000.
I was going down a steep hill on a remote trail with a half a tank of gas. After 10 minutes the fuel gauge showed empty and the engine died, I lost my brakes just when I needed them the most. I could not stop the car and we plunged down the very very steep hill with no way to stop or to steer. For some reason in a steep down hill the engine did notnot get fuel. Losing brakes and steering power just when it is needed the most is an accident and a law suite waiting to happen.
