Ten problems related to tank filler pipe and cap have been reported for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact's girlfriend owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while refueling the vehicle, gasoline would spew out of the fuel filler neck. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN and that the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
While fueling, the gas tank and vent pipe cause back pressure resulting in fuel spray and overflow. The overflow can cover the person filling in fuel and spill up to a gallon of gasoline on the vehicle and ground.
Fuel tank was just below 1/2 full prior to filling the tank. The tank overflowed out the filler pipe and down the side of the Jeep and onto the bumper after the automatic shutoff had stopped the flow of fuel. This is now happening during every fillup. I do not add fuel after the auto shutoff stops fuel flow. Updated 1/25/11 updated 03/14/11.
While filling gas tank at a major gas station the nozzle shutoff clicked indicating that the tank was full. Gasoline was burped out of the fill pipe and ran down the side of the Jeep and onto the bumper. This is the second instance of this happening both were during colder temperatures.
2007 Jeep Wrangler 2-door 1) nearly every time I fill up my gas tank, which holds 15 - 16 gallons per my estimate and fill-up history, it overflows (I have had the car for 13 months, fill up twice a week; 56 weeks x 2 = 112 * 0. 90 = 100 times this has happened). The overflow is not because the tank is over-filled, as it is possible, in my experience, to add an additional gallon after initial overflow. 2) the mechanism that shuts off the pump handle automatically when the fuel tank is becoming full does not stop the pump. This results in excess fuel ending up all over the side of my car, the attached gas cap, and one's shoes and person if one is not expecting the fuel to spit back out. 3) nothing has been done as of yet to correct the failure.
When I fill up my 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara, using the pump lock feature on the gas pump, fuel splashes out of the gas cap tube when the tank gets full. Fuel splashes down the side of the vehicle and onto the ground. One time, my son was standing at the rear corner of the vehicle, and gas nearly splashed all over him. Definitely a concern.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that whenever gasoline was added to the fuel tank at least six ounces of it would leak out of the tank. The failure was not diagnosed by the dealer. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 33,000. Updated 12/08/10. The consumer stated the problem was looked at twice, with no resolution/repair. The consumer has since traded the vehicle. Updated 12/14/10.
Normal vehicle use. No visible failure, however the fuel tank has an internal failure/defect that does not allow the air to vent during filling of the fuel tank. This causes the fuel to shoot out of the filler cap during normal filling, spilling approximately 1 quart of gasoline on the bumper and ground. It occurs during every fill up at any gas station. I took it to the dealer and they did nothing and informed me if I wanted it to work properly I would have to purchase an entire new gas tank. Vehicle is just 2 years old and less than 60,000 miles. I expressed safety concerns and the dealership did not care.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. While adding fuel to the tank and it reached the capacity, the fuel began to spill out of the tank splashing onto the contact the ground. The contact has called the manufacturer regarding the gas tank and the manufacturer stated they weren't aware of any related failures. The contact has made an appointment to have a diagnostic test done on the vehicle. The contact is concerned that the failure could cause a fire to occur. The failure mileage was 46,804.
When fueling the gas tank, the auto-shutoff valve at any service station will not shut off in time to prevent fuel splash out of the filler pipe and get on the person doing the fueling and pours down on the ground. This is not isolated to just a few service stations - it happens each and every time you fill this vehicle with gas.
