Tank Assembly problems of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler - part 1

224 problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2012

When filling tank the auto cutofff does not work on tank and fuel overflows and spills/sprays.

2 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

Gas tank spillover. The gas tank does not trigger the gas pump at the station to stop. I cannot fill my tank without having gas spill out or overflow. I don't recall when I first noticed it happening but approximately 1 year ago or a little more is when I recall. I think it is a safety hazard when it keeps spilling out.

3 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2012

When fueling, the gas tank "burps" approximately 1liter of gas after the fuel station pump turns off. This is not due to overfilling the tank. This happens every time I fill up, not on partial fills. The gas spilling is ruining my paint and plastic as well as damaging the service station cement and ultimately damaging the environment. (if this happens to every owner of a Jeep Wrangler, multiplied by every gas fill-up, just how much gasoline is being spilled?).

4 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2012

While filling up fuel tank to full and using the automatic shutoff supplied by all fuel stations the gas will overflow out of the filler neck for 1-2 seconds before actually stopping the flow of the fuel.

5 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2012

My Wrangler was manufactured 2/07- I purchased it used in 2/12. Every time I fill the tank, gas spills out immediately after the pump stops. Daimler Chrysler will not acknowledge this is an issue despite hundreds of complaints from 2007-08 Wrangler owners. This is obviously a safety issue and there should be a recall.

6 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2012

Fuel tank overflows when filling the vehicle with gas. The rollover check valve does not engage to stop the gas pump.

7 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2012

The gas tank overflows every time it is filled and spills gas on operator and ground.

8 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2012

Just purchased this Jeep used, excellent condition few days ago Jan. 2012. Major fuel spitting back upon filling the tank. The pump shuts off as expected and then there is a huge gush of gas that comes out after all over me, the side of Jeep, and all over the ground. This is a huge safety issue and a fire concern! the second attempt at fueling I tried slowing the speed of gas and not filling all the way --- same thing happened. Jeep dealer acts they've never heard of this. A lie. Ive emailed Chrysler and they also are acting like they dont know anything about it even though I have a copy of a letter they have sent to previous owners about it stating they would repair this fuel spitback issue. Apparently, my previous owner did nothing! I've now read all of the reports and claims. Too bad we didn't know this before. I am afraid to put my family in this Jeep and we haven't even had it for a week. You don't think it's a recall? I need this fixed! what will it take for you to issue a recall? a fire, explosion? or do you need to wait for a death first? would you like a video of this fuel spitting back out of the side of my new Jeep? I would be glad to film it for you as proof! it's not just a little fuel --- it's a gush! wake up, okay? I am a new owner and nobody and no internet sites or social media b. S. Is influencing me. I need help and so does everyone else with this extremely dangerous issue.

9 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2011

Vehicle was just purchased certified pre-owned. Vehicle came with a full tank of gasoline. While re-filling at a gas station for the first time, the tank filled normally. As soon as the fuel reached the nozzle end I heard the nozzle click off. Then approximately half a gallon of fuel sprayed out the end of the fill tube. The fuel ran all over the side of the Jeep and also sprayed onto my pant leg and shoe. I have since looked this issue up online in Jeep owner's forums and found this to be a huge problem among so many of these models. Not only is this a tremendous safety issue, but also an environmental issue as well. It is obvious that the tank is not vented properly. This issue needs immediate attention before a tragic event occurs. Earlier in this form I was asked if a fire occurred I answered no. Thank god this time there was not. This defect not unlike throwing lit matches at a gas pump.

10 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2011

Fuel overflows from tank when filling vehicle.

11 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that fuel spilled out from the filler neck while refueling. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The technician stated that the check valve in fuel tank failed and would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 35,500. The consumer stated the failure happened four to five times over several times, while using the auto shut off at the pump or hand filling the tank. Gas spilled out of the filler area, down the side of the vehicle onto the consumer's shoes. It was determined the check valve in the fuel tank failed. Updated 04/18/12.

12 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2011

Steering/suspension. We have had issues with excessive wobbeling and swaying of our Jeep. Believe this to be premature failure of the tie rods and stabelizing system. This has been very dangerous. Fuel system: gas will shoot out of the tank spilling fuel on the outside of the vehicle when fueling.

13 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2011

Jeep Wrangler has had an issue when filling the gas tank with fuel overflow at time of full tank. The pump will not shut off and gas is spilled on vehicle and ground. Happens everytime I fill up since about 12k miles on odometer. Have heard that Jeep will pay for repairs for Jeeps manufactured beginning March 2007. There are many of us, like myself, that have Jeeps manufactured earlier (mine was manuf. October, 2006 - 2007 model) that are having this issue and I would like Jeep to over coverage for replacement of the gas tank as they are doing for others. This is an extreme safety issue and environmental hazard. Please assist. Thank you.

14 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2011

I just purchased a 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited rubicon a couple weeks ago and when filling at the pump spits up gas when the pump shuts off when the tank is full. Thus spilling gas on myself, the vehicle and ground.

15 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2011

Every time I fill my tank up the pump nozzle does not shut of automatically and I get what seems like a half a gallon of fuel on the ground or on the side of my Jeep. I've read many complaints about Jeep owners having the same problem and its due to a faulty esim switch or something wrong with the whole gas tank on Jeeps.

16 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2011

Whenever I put gas into my tank and fill up, there is always an overflow of gasolline spilling out of the tank and onto my Jeep as well as onto the floor. Aside from the damage being done to my vehicle, this causes damage to the enviroment from fumes as well as raising the potential for fires.

17 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2011

In the last month I have had a problem with gas overflowing out of the fuel tank filler after the gas pump clicks off. The gas comes out and runs down the side of my vehicle and onto the ground. The problem has occured during 3 out of 4 fill-ups in the last month. I have not done anything yet to correct the issue.

18 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2011

Jeep Wrangler jk spills fuel out the filler neck during refueling. This is caused by a faulty back flow preventer in the gas tank. Chrysler has acknowledged a problem and offered an extended warranty to replace the fuel tanks of vehicles built during specified build dates. However this does not cover all the vehicles affected with this problem. It is a known issue and Chrysler refuses to take any action. Every fill up creates a potentially dangerous situation and spills hazardous material into the environment.

19 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2011

Gas tank overflowing when filling vehicle.

20 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2011

I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara. When I fill the tank with fuel I always get an overfill. This is not an intermittent thing. It happens 100% of the time. The splashback is signinficant splilling fuel all over my Jeep the ground and most the times if I am not paying attention myself.

21 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2011

While filling Jeep with gas for the first time since I purchased used, gas overflowed from tank, gas pump did not shut off until gas was spilling out. I informed the gas station attendant, thinking it was a gas pump problem. Since then, I have filled up at several different stations, and the problem has happened every time unless we slowly pump the gas in as the tank fills.

22 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2011

Gas overflows instead of stopping when full. This happens whenever filling tank. Dealer wanted 500. 00 to replace entire tank as the answer when clearly the issue is with vent. Gas spills around vehicle.

23 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

Vehicle spits out fuel if you allow the auto shut off to run from the pump. If I fill up my tank until the pump shuts off it will overflow about a quart of fuel on the floor. Took it to the dealer but they said it did not happen for them. I have recorded the next three fill ups and it did it every time. My vehicle is a 2007 but was built in 10/2006. Chrysler has issued a fix for this problem on similar vehicles built after 03/2007.

24 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2011

Fuel tank overflows before automatic shutoff at pump. Have had it happen using various types of fuel filling stations and various types of filling station nozzles. Has occurred every fill up since 2009.

25 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2011

2007 Jeep Wrangler jk sahara unlimited, issue started around 40,000 miles. Current mileage is 63,000 miles. Fuel tank overflows when filled at the pump. No matter what gas station I use, no matter what pump I use, the gas tank overflows on fill up. The handle for the pump has clicked off and stopped fueling, but gas spews out from the gas fill on my Jeep and ground and a couple times even onto my clothing. I have had to go back home and change clothes because so much gas spewed onto my clothing. This is the second time I have filed for this issue. Chrysler issued a TSB 14-001-11 on February 11, 2011 for this but is only build dates of March 07- 08. My build date is in 2006. Granted, I have not incurred any damage, this is a safety hazard to myself and some gas stations have even had to shut down to clean up the spill. This is an ongoing issue for numerous Jeeps and needs to include many different build dates outside of the recently issued TSB. Thank you for your time.

26 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2011

When filling up my 2007 Jeep Wrangler with fuel about a quart shoots back out after the pump stops. Different gas stations and ambient temps do not affect the issue, it always happens. This is unsafe! my wife and I both have had gas spilled on us, our children can breath the fumes on us getting back in the car, and gas is left to seep into the ground or catch on fire from the heat of the next cars exhaust. Not safe! TSB 14-001-11 which extends the gas tank valve does not pertain to my 2007 Jeep Wrangler since it was built Dec 22, 2006 and the TSB begins on March 1, 2007.

27 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2011

While filling the gas tank on my 07 Jeep Wrangler, fuel spills out before pump shut off. This has been happening for 6 months now. My build date is before the date that Chrysler said problems are happening.

28 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2011

Fuel spills out of gas filler hole when filling tank.

29 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2011

I have a 2007 4dr Wrangler and have 29000 miles on it and every single time that I have filled the tank up it over flows onto the ground. I have had to put absorbant down per the gas station for the mess that was caused. It splashes back hard enough that it gets everywhere. And for those of Jeep that read these, no I do not leave the pump or handle unattended. It not being under warranty anymore, it is no use after reading all this that I contact Jeep to have it fixed as they say nothing is wrong. But the feeling of gas in your eye is a really uncomfortable feeling caused by a defect in Jeep.

30 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2011

Every time I fill the tank on my 2007 Jeep Wrangler it overflows gasoline to the point that a small puddle forms on the ground. If I slow the pump towards the end it will still spew gasoline, but not to the same extent. The Jeep has done this every single fill up since I purchased it in August 2010.

31 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2011

Fuel spills out when tank is filled up.

32 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2011

When fueling at automatic cut off gas pumps fuel will splash back out of filler neck on persons , fender and ground before tank is full and pump cuts off.

33 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2011

Gas tank overflows when gas pump is left in automatic position. There has been a recall for my year and model of vehicle, but it's not within the manufacture date of the recall. There are many other Jeep Wrangler owners with the exact same problem. I am a firefighter, so I do realize that this is a very serious safety issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible. The manufacture date is 12/06.

34 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2011

While fueling my 2007 Jeep Wrangler when the pump clicks off gas pours out of my tank and has splashed all over me several times. This is very dangerous and happens every time I get gas. The car and myself can catch fire. This cannot wait until a tragedy occurs.

35 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2011

When filling the gas tank normally, the fuel overflows. This happens at all gas stations and under most conditions.
