Experienced the Jeep death wobble while travelling at 70 mph on a highway. I thought that I had experienced a blow out and the tire was moving from side to side on the rim. This was extremely violent. After I got the vehicle stopped I inspected it for damage and could not find any obvious problems. This happened five more times on that trip. I took the car to a mechanic that found nothing wrong. Had the tires rotated and balanced. They were in balance. Started researching the problem and found out about the death wobble. Found the steering damper was loose and tightened it. Helped a little but problem still occurs. Taking it to a dealer next to have the damping and alignment components replaced. I am the original owner and the vehicle is stock.
I have been experiencing an extreme shaking while operating the vehicle. I occurs very randomly and comes on with out notice. It occurs on the highway as well suburban streets and at any speed. I read an article from 08' from another person that had the same issue. It sounded like nothing was done from this organization and the vehicle maker. This is very unsafe situation for owners of this vehicle and is a safety hazard for others on the road. Please respond to this message and let me know if something can and will be done.
Death wobble-have had this problem repaired and comes back. Cannot drive over 55 mph in city or highway without entire car starting to violently shake. Will shake for about a minute and stop on its own. Very scary and dangerous. Have had this problem for over a year.
Death wobble.
As I was driving on the highway, reaching speeds of approximately 60mph, I hit a rough patch in the road and the Jeep begin to shake back and forth very forcefully, pulling to the right. Once I let off the gas and the Jeep slowed down to approx. 40mph, it finally stopped. Every time I hit a rough patch it will shake violently. My husband and I have named this "the death wobble".
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. While driving approximately 50 mph over uneven pavement, the vehicle became uncontrollable. The wheels and steering wheel started to wobble. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the front stabilizer link failed and needed to be replaced. The stabilizer link and bolts that secured the links were replaced, however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000. The VIN was unavailable.
We have had this incident many times before, referred to as the 'death wobble', had the steering pin replaced twice, and new tires, alignment and was fine for 3 months and yesterday it happened again, hit a bump in the road going 45 mph and Jeep just started rocking and jumping all over the road, had to pull off the road the make it stop. When are you people going to do something about this????? when someone gets killed????? this is so dangerous and I cannot believe that this has not been recalled, so many people have this and are very upset, has this been looked into???? if you are for safety than this would have been looked into a long time ago!!!!!.
My vehicle developed a horrible wobble in the steering and suspension while driving at about 60 mph on the highway. I slowed down and the wobble stopped but persisted whenever I went approximately 60 mph. I took the vehicle to the dealership, they are very aware of the Jeep death wobble however the cost of repairs is mine to bear. This could cause a significant accident, yet Jeep is ignoring repairing this. To this day it is still not fixed 100%.
When driving and vehicle hit a bump with right tire vehicle would begin violently shaking until slowed down to 15 mph. Took to repair shop who diagnosed it with death wobble and replaced lower drag link and installed new tires. No issues so far. Also both floorboards get wet when it rains.
It's the 5th time this has happened. While driving my Jeep Wrangler at more than 45 miles an hour the front end begins to shake uncontrollably. I begin to lose control. I have to apply brakes and nearly stop at highway speeds causing safety issues for other drivers. Chrysler has admitted to the issue and has issued a service bulletin 19-002-12. This first happened when my Jeep was under warranty and they fixed it. This is a serious safety concern.
Vehicle experiences violent shaking that requires you to dramatically slow down to stop. Wobbles back and forth to an extreme that control is nearly lost. Completely stock vehicle with factory replacement tires. Tires are balanced and vehicle is aligned within spec. Online research states this is called "death wobble" as result of mismatched fastener sizes in factory assembly.
While driving on interstate and immediately after crossing over a bridge, the front end and steering wheel began to violently shake. Braking did not bring the condition under control. Fortunately I was in the right lane and able to pull onto the right shoulder. The shaking stopped when my speed fell below 25mph. I purchased this vehicle at approx 50,000 miles. This condition has never occurred before. Clearly there is potential for outright loss of steering control, or potential for collision from behind due to need for rapid deceleration while driving at a highway speeds.
I was driving approximately 55-60mph, there were some mild tar bumps in the road that I drove over and the car proceeded to the death wobble. It is exactly as everyone else has noted, the Jeep felt like all 4 wheels were coming off, the Jeep shook voilently, was extremely hard to handle. I slowed my speed and pulled off the road. The car felt like it was going to come apart. This is a known problem to Chrysler and to this organization, why won't you do something about it????? with only 33k miles, I now have to get a new car because I am in fear of driving this one. If this had happened in the middle lane of an expressway. . . . It could have been tragic and deadly. . . . Is that what you are waiting for? hope it isn't anyone you know when it does happen!.
Vehicle goes into a very bad shaking and wobble of the front suspension, typically at highway speeds and after passing over a bump in the road, frequently even a very small bump. The only way to stop the rattle/wobble after it begins, is to come to a complete stop. I have had several repair shops examine it, alignment checked, tires replaced, suspension parts replaced.
The 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x model began violent shaking in the front end at highway speeds. The shaking started mildly then became violent. I slowed down and the shaking subsided but this is extremely dangerous when the traffic flow is moving at faster rates. An on-line search indicates that this is common in this model. I believe this should be recalled and fixed.
I was driving on a 4 lane highway at 60mph when the car started vibrating so violently I thought I had lost a wheel. I could barely control the car and was surrounded by 18 wheelers. I was horrified. I pulled onto the shoulder and got out expecting to see a flat tire but everything looked fine. I got back in and drove down the road only to have it happen again when I went over 55mph. I called emergency service and had it towed to the dealership. They "fixed" it and charged me for the work done. But when I drove it again at 53mph when I hit a bump it started vibrating again. I now never drive over 50mph over the fear of it happening again. I looked it up on the internet and it is called death wobble and Jeep will not help us. I have not altered my vehicle at all. This is a dangerous defect and needs a recall before someone dies. Please do something before it is too late. It is like driving on the worst washboard road you ever saw at 60mph surrounded by traffic. It is a recipe for disaster. The car shakes so violently that the wheels wobble. Please look it up on the internet. A reporter in California did a story on it. Please do a recall. I have been driving Jeeps since 1986 and this is the 4th Jeep I have owned. This has never happened to me before. My last Jeep had 131,000 miles on it and I had no problems. Jeep has obviously changed the design or is using cheaper parts. This is not good for the Jeep brand.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle jerked violently without any warning. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 74,900 and the current mileage was 75,000. Updated 02/11/lj.
When traveling at 45 mph I made a slight left turn in the road and went over a long small bump in the road maybe from a road seam that was filled in. Both wheels hit it at the same time and the Jeep slowly started shaking until it became very violent inside the Jeep. I had to slow my speed down to appox 10 mph to get it to stop. I happened to have a coworker behind me who saw the whole thing from behind and said the the car was shaking back and forth so much that it looked like my rims were almost touching the road since my tire treads stayed straight. It felt like I had 4 flats. I changed the steering dampener and the shocks to rancho brand which are larger than the oem but it happened again but not nearly as bad since I now know when it could possibly happen. If there were cars next to me I would have hit them. This is a very real problem which is scary. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph over a road bump, the vehicle and the steering wheel began to vibrate excessively and caused the contact to lose control of the vehicle. The contact erroneously drove off the roadway. The contact had the vehicle diagnosed by an independent dealer, who replaced the steering stabilizer but the defect was not remedied. The manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 59,000. Updated 03/11/lj.
I engaged my electronic swaybar disconnect when I went off-roading. When I returned to pavement, I tried to reconnect by pressing the button on the instrument panel, but the light continued flashing on the dash. I took my 2007 Jeep Wrangler rubicon in to the local Jeep dealer and was told that it was not covered by warranty. After doing some research online, I found that this is a very common issue among rubicon owners. . Read more...
I bought a new 2007 Jeep Wrangler death wobble started at 70,000 miles mark Mitsubishi in phoenix az has not helped me out at all it goes every 10,000 miles on me and they just replaced my tires. Death wobble occurred the day after and before. How do we all get together who have this problem and get Jeep to be responsible for a defective front end. Death wobble is not only scary it is dangerous and I hope that it doesn't take someone getting killed for them to finally replace it.
Driving on 4 lane non-interstate road in the rain at approximately 40 mph. Drove through a puddle that seemed to affect the left front tire only and the front end began to shake violently as though something had came loose. There was a strong pull to the left also. I'm thinking I will have to get the front end checked out, stopped at a grocery store for a few things and when headed home the shake is still there, but not so violent. Parked at home overnight and headed out the next day to get it looked at and there is no shake whatsoever, vehicle drives like it always has. In doing some research on the internet I see a problem others seem to be having exactly like mine and it's being called the "death wobble". It has not done this since this one time but it has me worried that it will at any time, and could be very dangerous.
I was driving on highway when hitting 65mph and Jeep started to shake uncontrollably. I would have to stop and pull over to a lower speed for it to stop. But if I was in left lane and it started I couldn't swing to breakdown lane so would have to stop immediately in traffic. Very unsafe but better than causing accident. I replaced the steering stabilizer last summer with no relief. Why is Jeep not handling this ? why are people like us spending thousands of dollars on a vehicle just to have cause life threatening issues I have many things and read up on this death wobble of Jeep. Is it something I can get lawyers involved ?.
Stock 2007 with fairly new original size tires Wrangler with "death wobble" at 55 miles an hours the Jeep begin to shake violently and I had to slow below 45 for the wobble to stop. After I had the recommended upgrade to the steering dampener I was traveling through a canyon on I-70 and went over an expansion joint. I almost lots control and hit the car next to me related to this wobble. This Jeep has been taken this vehicle to the dealer 5 times in the last three months, they have replaced every possible part on the front end of this car. The tires are from 2009 with almost 2/3 tread remaining. The dealership is at a lost for why this problem continues. I have decided to sell the Jeep back to the dealer because I am no longer able to feel safe and will not take my family in this care. The wobble is very unpredictable and therefore very hard to duplicate but none the less it is very possible to lose control when this occurs. Please look into why this is so common before someone is killed.
While driving roughly 60-65mph on highway 5 from san diego to la the front end and steering wheel of my vehicle started to shake violently after driving over rough pavement. I decreased speed from 60-65mph to roughly 30-40 mph paying attention to traffic as I veered from the 2nd fast lane to the shoulder. The violent shaking continued as I pulled the vehicle to shoulder of the highway until I reached a speed of about 15-20mph. I took the vehicle to 2 different Jeep dealerships; one in san diego and one in la. They stated they could not find anything wrong. I replaced the shocks, tires, and damper along with multiple alignments and the problem still persists. I'm so afraid to drive it that I rented a car.
As far as I can tell, I am not the only one with the "death wobble. " while driving on the interstate about 65 mph, I crossed over a bridge and when my front tires got to the edge of the bridge on I-65, my Jeep began shaking almost uncontrollably. This has happend at 5 times now in the last year and I assumed it was tire, shock, or alignment issues. New tires and shocks and front end aligned. Nothing different!.

Hit a pothole traveling at 70 mph the vehicle experienced a violent shaking until I stopped .
I was driving on the freeway in excess of 70mph when I hit a very minor imperfection in the road. The vehicle immediately began to shake/hop and steering become uncontrollable I nearly caused a major pile up on I-35. This has happened numerous times and I've owned the car very little time. Luckily I gained control before a catastrophic event happened. This is 100% a Jeep design flaw it is referred to as "death wobble" and no if ands or buts; they need to be held accountable. All we as buyers ask is to be put in a safe and functional vehicle. My child has to ride in this car. There are literally thousands of reports of the same problem all over the nation. It is not ok for this to go on any longer. Something has to be done lives are at stake. Is that not important anymore? please watch the youtube videos so you can view what the wheels and car actually do and you will understand exactly how serious this is.
Experienced "death wobble" while traveling on highway between 50 and 65 mph. This is very dangerous and occurred several times on several hour cross state trip. This is extremely scary to driver and passengers as there were vehicles all around us on the highway. First reaction was to slam on brakes which again, very scary as we were on highway traveling at a 60 mph.
Driving my stock 2007 Jeep Wrangler on I-77 in charleston wv at 65mph. Started rounding a left hand curve in the road when I hit some minor bumps in the road. The vehicle started bouncing and shaking violently nearly causing me to lose control of the vehicle. I was able to slow and pull off to the side of the road. The shake went away at about 15-20 mph. I thought for sure a wheel was coming off. I slowed my speed but this still happened three more times before I could get it to royal Jeep in charleston where I had to leave it and rent a car for the night. After describing the incident to the service advisor stated it sound like a bad steering damper shock and stated that he has dealt with this problem before. I picked up the vehicle the next day to a tune of $205. 00 plus the rental car($64. 00) and drove back to cleveland OH without another incident. Mark by word, someone will die someday if this problem is not corrected quickly.
Front end shakes violently, feels like a flat tire or a loose wheel. Stopped & checked tires, found nothing wrong. Got back in vehicle and drove. This has happen at least 2 other times. I believe it is called a death wobble. Was pretty scary.
I was on highway and I got what I now find out is common in my car the death wobble. I had to come to a complete stop on the highway to make it stop. Very scary and deadly.
Uncontrollable wobble in front end on highway causing vehicle to be unsafe (referred to as the death wobble).
