Three problems related to air bag on-off switch have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Airbag light on, airbag has never deployed. Understand this is in ongoing problem resulting in recall on some Jeep models. Was told that airbag is functional but switch goes off saying it needs to be replaced.
Airbag light came on unexpectedly and kept switching on and off for more than 500 miles. I took the vehicle to the dealership this week and they said it was a clockspring. The service advisor said they see them coming back "all the time" and he just had one the previous day on the 2008 Wrangler. I see that other years have been recalled - but as of yet Jeep has not recalled this specific year (they even recalled right hand drive versions for this year but not for left hand drives). I paid for the repair as it seems dangerous to drive the vehicle with a faulty airbag.
Why would you install a non protected/enclosed clock spring switch in a Jeep which is made for off road, is a convertible which is exposed to dust and weather. So I can buy and have new parts installed after each outing, and also have the possibility of an accident with out the protection of an air bag???.
