Four problems related to check engine light on have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Jeep has major electrical issues. Jeeps tipm module has caused the Jeep to die while driving, experience lacking power, check engine light to go off and seems to brake itself. I replaced itnless than a year ago and now the dealership is saying it is going out again. Also having problems with pcm and part is on national backorder.
I started my 2008 Jeep Wrangler jk and immediately got a check engine light with an audible sound. The engine was running very rough and shaking. I turned off the engine and it seemed fine but the check engine light was still on. I have a obd2 diagnostic code reader and it showed the code p0306. This is a misfire on the number six cylinder. I took it to larry h. Miller Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram dealership in albuquerque and this is what was done. "WI tech diagnostics for fault codes, had store codes for injector #6 circuit, no work done, operating as per design". I asked what can be done to fix the problem and [xxx] said that the tech could not duplicate the problem so they could not fix anything. [xxx] offered to perform a fuel injector cleaning but this was the only options for now. The next day I started the Jeep and had the same issue. I looked up this code 0306 on the Jeep jk site and read posts of "pentastar problem". In all cases these people had to visit the dealership 4 to 5 times until they fixed the problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My brand new 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara, after only 8 days and 499 miles stalled today while driving. It actually stalled 6 times total withing a 2 mile trip home. The instrument cluster lit up like a christmas tree, the radio went out and the engine stalled, taking the power brakes and steering with it. The engine would not restart, just clicked. After waiting 5 minutes or so, the engine turned over, only to stall within a half mile and the process repeated itself 4 times after that. Now my check engine light remains on and the car is at the dealership. I am afraid that Chrysler did not infact take care of the stalling recall of last model year(2007) and that the new model year is affected with this stall bug as well. I am concerned because when it happened I was doing a whopping 5 mph, I am concerned it could happen at highway speeds and cause great injury to me or my wife or others. I ask you please look into this and/or keep it on record for future notices to potentially recall other Wranglers. Thank you for your time on this matter. Please feel free to contact me for further information.
Consumers feels that his 2008 Jeep Wrangler rubicon poses a safety hazard received 2 documents from mr. Hopkins. 4/19/2010 the consumer is afraid the engine may catch on fire, due to it backfiring. Also, the rpm periodically remained high. The consumer stated he repeatedly had to pull over to the side of the road and shut the engine off in order for the vehicle to return to normal. The chech engine light never illuminated and therefore, the computer was unable to record any malfunctions.
