Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problems of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Seven problems related to gas recirculation valve (egr valve) have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2015

Another Jeep same year and model had to have all their front end parts replaced too at the same dealership. Second water pump in two years egr valve replaced but check engine light still on maintenance was done by the manual with this Jeep.

2 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4-dr 4x4. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the total integrated power module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2012

While driving at night, the horn, front wipers, washers, rear wipers, and reverse lights all came on without warning. Pulled to side of road and turned off car but engine did not turn off. Opened hood and hit top of t. I. P. M. (totally integrated power module). Horn, wipers, washers, and engine stopped. This is a common problem with 2007-2009 Wranglers that Jeep fails to accept. It is unsafe because you cannot stop the engine or see where you are going when the washer fluid starts running. This is the 3rd time in 2 years this has done this.

4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2011

I am having a problem with my integrated power module (ipm). It is causing my safety bag lght to come on (not knowing if it would deploy) but that is not the only problem with the module. It's also causing my front lights to come on when the car is off and I am getting electrical shocks every time I touch my door. The most important issue is it sometimes turns off or I can't turn it on because my electronics goes completely off. I know this because when it happens I go into the box remove and replace the cable or plugs and it starts working. I would hate this to happen when I'm driving, which would cause my power steering and shifting to lockup leaving me with no options and maybe with no safety bag. I know this to be true because the vehicle has turned off on me when I was leave my parking space at work. I could not turn or shift the vehicle because all the electronic turned off. I have already replace my battery terminal cable (battery to the ipm) due to corrosion.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2010

On two separate occasions my unmodified 2008 Jeep Wrangler x has given me an audible "ding" warning and the airbag warning light came on and stayed on while stuck in very slow moving highway traffic (approximately 0-10 mph). Both times it was approximately 85-90 degrees f outside and the air conditioning was off. The second time this happened the "hot oil" warning recall fix had already been performed but I did not receive that warning nor did the temperature gauge rise more than half the width of the needle. On the second occasion the "ding" and airbag warning light came on repeatedly over a period of a half an hour each time traffic slowed down.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, all of the lights on the instrument panel illuminated and the vehicle stalled. Upon restart, the vehicle operated as normal. The failure recurred on an intermittent basis and the contact also stated that the engine would not always restart immediately. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where the contact was informed that a faulty oxygen sensor caused the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure continued to occur on an intermittent basis. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the entire engine was replaced. The failure continued. The vehicle would not restart after the most recent failure and was towed to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the total integrated power module failed. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 35,000.

7 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2007

I bought a 2008 Jeep Wrangler (4) door unlimited rubicon. I did not have more than 150 miles on it before the engine would stall while making a turn at an intersection. I went on a vacation with about 1000 miles on it. I parked the vehicle at about a 15 to 20 degree angle; front facing down. The gas tank was 1/2 full, and I left the vehicle running for about 2 minutes. The engine shut down (stopped) running. I attempted to start the engine but it would not turn over. I checked all the gauges and there were no blown fuses. I checked the gas gage and it read that there was no gas in the tank. Because I was on a county road, in the middle of nowhere, I winched the vehicle to a level plane. I started the engine on the second try. After a very high rev cycle, the gas gauge again showed the gas tank being 1/2 full. With the vehicle stalling, and completely stopping on a hill, this could be a life ending situation in the future while in an intersection or going down a hill. The last incident happened on 11-25-2007.
