Five problems related to engine shut off without warning have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
With no warning while driving the Jeep it just shut off. No steering, no brakes. Wouldn't start back up after. We brought it to the repair shop and the motor is totally ceased and needs a new motor.
Randomly the Jeep will completely go crazy. The windshield wipers with fluid run, blinkers, horn, and ----> the engine shuts off while driving at any speed. I lose power steering and power brakes at the same time. This is seriously dangerous. I called the local Jeep dealer and they told me to call Chrysler. I did some research in Jeep forums online and found this is a very common problem with the Jeep Wranglers from 2007 forward. Jeep has a recall for the most recent models, but no recall for the previous years to include mine. I'm really confused how this happens to so many Jeep Wranglers around my year, but there are no recalls. This is a significant safety issue for the vehicle occupants and definitely for other vehicles around.
While driving the engine shuts off! then while the motor is off the horn sounds, the windshield wipers whipping and the windshield washer wiper fluidly starts flowing out.
I have and 08 Wrangler jk that I recently purchased from Dodge dealer. The other day I shut key off and pulled the key and the Jeep keep running. I pulled positive terminal and it shut off. Put it back on and started and shut it of no issue. Didnt bother again till about a week later when I went to dr and it did it again. However it shut itself off in a couple minutes, however yesterday when it did it it didnt shut off for the time we were in hannaford aporx 10-15 min. . . Whats the issue. . . . . .
My 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 spun a bearing due to inferior manufacturing, assembly and parts. I was turning a traffic circle corner at approx 40mph when the engine shut off once the bearing spun. As a result, I lost power stearing and brakes. Unfotunately this is very common with 2007-2008 Jeep Wranglers. I think the manufacturer of the vehicle should be held responsible for the repairs as its due to poor workmanship and inferior parts. This is a very expensive fix and dangerous since the engine will shut off shortly after the incident.
