When trying to pull away in first gear the transmission will suddenly and violently slam out of first gear. The first occurrence was while pulling away from a light after it had turned from red to green, how ever subsequent occurrences have happened while attempting to make left turns and one such occurrence led to a near collision on October 16th 2012 while driving with my pregnant wife in the vehicle. This seems to be happening more frequently, once a week now. Chrysler is aware of the problem and has issued a service bulletin about it but no safety recall. This is a major safety issue for people with manual transmissions. The TSB number from Chrysler is 21-001-10 rev. A.
When at complete stop and proceeding to drive forward, the Jeep pops out of first gear with a loud bang, and then is usually a little stiffer to get into second. This has happened 8 times since purchasing the vehicle used almost 3 weeks ago. This is a safety concern because if I were crossing traffic and popped into neutral, I could be t-boned and badly hurt. Thanks.
Occasionally my transmission violently "pops" out of first gear when I am moving from a complete stop. I have now made a habit of holding the shift level into 1st gear and sometimes it forces my hand and the shift lever out of gear no matter how hard I am pushing the shift lever.
Manual trans pops out of first gear when starting off from stop. Did not happen often at first. Over course of time it happened more and more. Took to dealer 5/8/2013 with 76800 miles as it was happening almost daily. They fixed it by adjusting shifter boot ( I think there is a Chrysler TSB on problem) and it was okay for about 90 days and it is doing it again. Dealer has been wonderful but their hands are tied. This is an accident waiting to happen.
Upon acceleration from a complete stop, manual transmission violently pops out of first gear. Stick shift lever pops out with dangerous force and can injure hand or arm if it is in the path of ejected shift lever. Condition extremely dangerous when turning in traffic and losing drive. Also can cause rear end collision as drive loss is immediate and no brakes are applied so no brake lights warn drivers behind the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4dr 4x4. While driving approximately 20 mph, smoke began to emit from under the hood. The contact maneuvered to the side of the road and immediately exited the vehicle. The vehicle began to ignite into extensive flames. The fire department extinguished the fire and informed the malfunction originated within the transmission. The vehicle was completely destroyed and towed to the dealer. The failure occurred twenty minutes after the recall repair was performed. The recall was associated with NHTSA campaign id number was 09v436000 (power train: automatic transmission). The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
Sometimes when I'm going to take off. . . As I would normally do. . . My shifter slams out of first gear. . . The first time I heard/felt it, I literally waited to hear something hit the pavement afterwards. . . After my heart slows back down and my body allows me to react I place it back in first and everything goes as normal. . . I'm not trying to speed off ridiculously. . . Just slow easy starts as usual and it freaks me out. The thing that really scares me is when my pregnant wife drives this car and has this problem.
Manual transmission pops out of gear.
Synchro problem jumps violently out of 1st gear [jog] since 35k miles.
Pops out of first gear. When you start out in 1st gear it will pop out, causing the Jeep to stall in traffic. Very dangers!!!.
When starting from a stop the transmission violently slams out of 1st gear into neutral leaving the car stalled in traffic. This is an extremely dangerous condition. When asking the Jeep dealership about the problem they acknowledge the issue, but said there probably will not be a recall until someone is injured.
I purchased a brand new Jeep Wrangler about two and a half years ago. About two months ago the car would randomly stop starting. I have taken it to my local Jeep dealer four times for this problem and they have not fixed it. The dealer claims that they cannot fix the problem because they do not know what's wrong with the car. I have notified Jeep's corporate office and they claim that the car has been fixed even though its starting problem had persisted. To make matters worse I was driving the Jeep a few weeks ago and then all the car's alarms went off, then dashboard failed, the windshield washers turned on and then the car's transmission began to kick within about five seconds. I took it back to my dealer and they claimed that the problem was caused by a defective radio. I personally have no idea if this problem was caused by the original starting problem. I also am concerned that there may be more problems with my car in the future.
Vehicle's transmission inconsistently shifts from first gear to neutral from a standing stop to acceleration. Force of the vehicle coming out of gear is so great that it feels as if a collision has occurred from behind. On several occasions of these occurrences the vehicle has entered into an intersection causing a deceleration and subjecting the vehicle and occupants to oncoming traffic. This was first reported to the dealer in December of 2009. Dealer reported the problem could not be duplicated and the problem was never addressed.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4x4. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact smelled an extremely strong burning odor. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road and quickly became engulfed in flames. The contact, front seat passenger and rear seat passenger sustained minor burns to the face and arms. The fire department extinguished the fire and informed the contact that the transmission fluid boiled over into the transmission and engine area, which resulted in a fire. The contact later received notification of NHTSA campaign id number 09v436000 (power train: automatic transmission). The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a savage facility. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 13,000.
Fire hazard - the front axle vent tube is incorrectly designed. While investigating an oil leak the dealer found that the tube had been overflowing, depositing oil residue on the frame, exhaust pipe and catalytic converter. Burned oil is evident on the exhaust crossover pipe. In my opinion is only a matter of time before a fire starts. The dealer has seen other vehicles with this problem and plans to lengthen the tube and place its' end in a location away from the exhaust. I feel this flaw should merit expedited factory review and redesign.
The vehicle violently pops out of first gear when you begin accelerating. This creates a severe hazard when attempting to accelerate through a left-hand turn across traffic. This problem was repaired in 2009 and has now begun again. This is a known issue with Chrysler.
At 13k miles I was forced to pay for a new clutch. This is my second Jeep, so I clearly know how to drive it. At this low mileage this is unbelievable and highly suspicious. Just outside of warranty. Jeep refused to even discuss the matter. When I returned a call in their findings I was repeatedly read the e-mail I sent and nothing was explained. My dealership told me not to worry about the loaner over the weekend, then tried to force me to pay for it. The clutch exploded on a busy highway during morning rush hour.
Within a few months of purchasing the Jeep Wrangler, it began randomly popping out of 1st gear. It was uncommon and inconsistent at first. It was returned to the dealer ([xxx]) multiple times and we were repeatedly told they "could not duplicate the issue". They kept the car for weeks on end. Finally the tech duplicated the issue and replaced the transmission with a rebuilt. This fixed the problem only temporarily, and soon it began popping out of 1st gear again. On vacation in pensacola FL, the problem got worse and was reported to the nearest Jeep dealer. It was determined a new transmission was needed. Upon return to houston, it was replaced with another rebuilt transmission by river oaks Jeep. Within a few months, it began popping out of first gear again. Problem persisted until transmission went out and car was rendered undriveable on 5. 10. 13. Towed to river oaks on 5. 13. 13 for repair once again, where it is currently being evaluated. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I currently do not have the correct date of the first occurance, but since I have bought this Jeep I have had it in the shop more than 10 times for a water leak ( the major issue ). Then right after I bought it I was coming off of the bay bridge in maryland, and the streering strut broke causing difficulty steering. The pressure plate in the transmission went bad, the gas tank had to be replaced, my seat broke twice, the boot around the gear shift had to be replaced. The list goes on and on. It was just in the shop on Friday to have the water leak in the door and roof repaired again. I tried to file for the lemon law when this first started and they told me my vehicle did not qualify. I have been in touch with Chrysler to make them aware of all I have been through and they get me an appointment at the dealer ( big deal ) they act like they could care less. I was told by the manager at the dealership that he had gone to a meeting the other day and that Chrysler had "big problems", apparently they have discovered the windshields are off by 1/8 of an inch causing all these vehicles to leak! shouldnt that be a recall. I have lost more time from work and more headaches without a car than enough. They should buy this vehicle back from me at the price I screwed buying it!.
The vehicle is a manual transmission. The vehicle randormly keeps popping out of gear and goes on neutral when driving on 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear. When that happens, the vehicle cannot be accelarated and come to almonst a complete stop. Obviously this situation poses a serious danger that can result to accidents and possible lose of lives. Despite numerous attempts, Chrysler fails to resolved the problem. Yet, ironically, although many owners of Jeep Wrangler 2007 - 2011 with manual transmiossion have reported the problem to Chrysler, the have not put any recall for that very alarming defect.
Wrangelr rubicon 2 dr stalling at interstate / highway speed, started doing this at approx 10,000 miles. Started doing this 152 miles in to a 320 mile trip and did this numerous times between 10,000 and 10,090 miles were I had to pull over on the interstate as the vehicle engine quit completely or sometimes you could pump the gas and the engine would come back to life, but not often. Filled up with gas at 10,090, thought maybe I had gotten bad gas however it happened again approx 68 miles into the new full tank of gas and continued happening at highway speed were I would have to pull over and it would die. Jeep restarted everytime, sometimes it would take numerous times to restart. This situation is very dangerous. I limped to my destination only to discover that most chyrsler/Jeep dealer service departments are closed on saturdays so looks like I am stuck until Monday to get it to a dealer in a different state from where I live. Can't believe it.
Abs control module has gone out.
