5 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2016

On my 09 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag light and chime come on and off during my daily comute an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicles aibags. This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Daimler Chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying. At first my horn stop working (also caused by a faulty clockspring) and didn't think much of it, but I had to look into this matter a little deeper when my airbag light came on.

Please look into this matter there are many of us that have the airbag light on this should be a recall.

7 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

The vehicle's airbag light illuminates when the steering wheel is turning. The clock spring is defective. There has been a recall on this part and I am not sure why my VIN number is not being chosen for the recall when it has the same symptoms as all the vehicles that are recalled. I am nervous to wait for it to possibly get recalled in case I am in an accident.

10 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2015

Air bag light on intermittently, after starting vehicle, turning and/or hitting bump, dings constantly from coming on and going off (appx every 20 seconds while driving). Known issue is on recall for rhd vehicles, but not on lhd vehicles. How many complaints are needed before recall is issued? obviously, there is a problem.

13 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2015

The air bag light on the control panel illuminates intermittently while driving. The duration of illumination fluctuates from seconds to 20 minutes. The faulty component is the clockspring assembly. Due to your investigation pe 15-025, I'm in discussion with Chrysler/fiat to repair the component outside of warranty as this is a great safety concern which they had fair warning to correct.

14 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

The airbag light on the dash comes on and stays on. When turning the wheel sharply, the light goes off and then comes back on again when coming out of the turn. The vehicle was taken in for service and I was told the clock spring was bad and needed to be replaced. My understanding is that similar Jeeps have been recalled for this and that the investigation has expanded to include my model and year as well. Attached is the estimate from the dealer showing the need for repair.

15 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2015

Airbag light kept going on. I am upset because there is a large recall on the mopar airbag module located in the sterring wheel. I had to pay 680. 00 dollars, where there is over 1millon vehicles that have been recalled for this specific part. Something is just not right here. Please help thank you.

19 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2015

I am having a problem with my airbag light turning on and off repeatedly and dinging at me every time the light turns on. This problem just started after owning my vehicle since I drove it off the lot in early 2009. Upon research this is a very common problem that involves a very expensive part called the clockspring. There are numerous reports of this problem. This is a dealer only part.

20 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

Airbag light goes on and off. Was told by the dealer (jim click) that there is no problem with this item. I need to pay for diagnosis before they can do anything. I informed them of the recall this is being investigated and was told that they can't do anything and was my problem.

21 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

2009 Jeep Wrangler airbag light illuminates on instrument compartment. This is the result of a clock spring which has been known to Jeep for years. Very much a shame that the us gov't right-hand drive Jeeps are covered by a clock spring recall but not left handed driven Jeeps. It is the same part on the left or right which gets dust on the lubricated and unsealed clock spring. The guess Jeep is willing to fix the government Jeeps made the same way because of the national safety administration and the lack of support for us consumers I hope Jeep takes a hit on this one publicly in the media if they do not fix. This same part was recalled in earlier models but somehow the same part is ok in later models if it is on the left-side and not the right-side of the Jeep. Jeeps are not made to get dusty I guess.

22 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

Air bag light became continuously illuminated & the warning ding makes a sound off and on while driving the vehicle, determined clock spring in the steering column was defective. Looked for a recall for this issue, but found there was only one for right hand drive Jeeps. I did, however, find an open investigation & many complaints for this same issue on left hand drive Jeeps.

23 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2015

While operating my 2009 Jeep Wrangler first my cruise control failed and now will not function, then my air bag light came on. Now the air bag light keeps going on and off with a chime. Looked it up online only to find I'm not the only one with this issue, it seems very frequent and to have recalled several other keeps with the same problem, Chrysler needs to properly address the issue and recall all the keeps with this problem.

24 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2015

Air bag light turns on then goes off. Drive awhile, air bag light turns on turns off. There is a recall for right drive vehicles only. They need to make it effective for left drive vehicles as well. Dealer states its covered for right drive only vehicles not left drive vehicles. I know the postal service do not own Jeep Wranglers.

25 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2014

The air bag light turned on and when the steering wheel is turned and hit any bump the light dings and stays on.

26 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2014

Air bag light is repeatedly coming on and off while driving indicating a fault in the air bag system. From reading about this issue online, there appear to be several vehicles with same problem where the clock spring in the steering wheel is faulty and may compromise the air bag. Jeep is refusing to fix it outside of a 3yr or 36000 mile warranty so owners are left to fix the issue involving air bags themselves.

27 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2014

The airbag light came on rendering it useless. The problem is in the clockspring. There is a recall on this part up to 2007. I have a 2009 jku and Chrysler won't warranty it. They are still using the same part that was recalled in 2007. There is a recall on current rhd Jeeps with this exact part. Many people have this same problem with a documented faulty part that shuts off the airbag. Can't figure why chryser won't fix this safety issue. Look what happened to toyotas stock with the prius brake issue.

28 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

I have a 2009 Jeep Wrangler rubicon. The airbag light has recently come on along with a beeping every few minutes. We took it to the dealer and they told us it sounds like a bad clock spring, an estimated $500-$600 to fix. There have been recalls on this part in 2007 and we believe it needs to be recalled for newer models as well.

29 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2014

The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated the air bag light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed the clock spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was 54,938.

30 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

My airbag light came on and my cruise control stopped working. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they stated it would be $500 to fix because it is not a recalled item. I have been waiting patiently for the recall because many other Jeep Wrangler owners are having the same issues. My vehicle was stationary. One day I simply went to start the Jeep and the light came on. I was headed to work and always use my cruise control when I am on the highway, but it would not work.

31 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2014

While driving home today doing about 20 mph still accelerating my airbag light came on with a ding, stayed on for about 15 seconds turned off, then turned back on again with a ding then remained on. Upon looking up this problem I was told it is my clockspring and I also discovered that this is a reoccurring problem in all 2007-2011 Jeep Wranglers. So far Jeep has only recalled clocksprings on government issue right hand drive train Jeeps and put an extended warranties on the 2007 Wranglers clocksprings. You'd think they'd want to keep the individuals voting in their government officials just as safe as the government workers themselves. When hundreds upon thousands of Jeep owners reach out online to discover what their problem is and all come to the same conclusion and yet Jeep refuses to see the safety issues in a malfunctioning piece of factory installed equipment that causes airbags to either deploy at random or not deploy at all in the event of a collision or accident. Jeep Chrysler has truly turned into a malicious corporation more concerned with their bottom line than the lives of the people putting money in their pockets. This is unacceptable pure and simple, protect the people that keep you in business not just the government workers.

32 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Airbag light is on, had diagnostics checked, driver airbag circuit open. Jeep states that Jeep is not covered by recall.

33 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2014

While driving the air bag light comes on intermittingly ,flashing and dinging, called Chrysler who informed me that there is only a recall on 2007 and 2008 models as well as models built in Feb 2009, apparently my vehicle was built in April 2009.

34 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

Air bag light came on while driving. After some quick internet research it seems the clock spring in the steering wheel of 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Jeep Wranglers fails. This causes and open circuit and air bag disables. Vehicles was brought to Jeep dealer on April 19, 2014. Dealer verified that the clock spring was bad and there was an open circuit to the driver air bag. Jeep would not assist in replacement of the part saying it was was normal wear and tear item. This is a safety issue and there have been many reports of this part failing early in the life of the vehicle. Dealer charged me $320 parts and labor for the repair. I believe Jeep should warranty this item indefinitely since it is expensive to repair and most people will forego the repair and risk their safety.

35 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

My airbag lights keeps turning off and on at different times. Looked online to see Jeep has issued a recall on most veichles air bag clockspring. I called my dealer and I was told I am not covered under the recall due to where my Jeep was made. So that being said a company that took our tax payers dollars and got bailed out cant help make sure a Jeeper owners airbags will work!.
