36 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/24/2017

On 2/20/17 we brought our Jeep Wrangler sahara unlimited to Jeep dealer in delray beach florida schumacher because we found rust on the front and passenger seat frame hinges. The seat hinges have bare steel showing signs of rust which could be a potential safety defect . The vehicle is still within 3 year warranty. Service called Jeep area manager (fiat Chrysler) jose? who said repairs are not covered. We spoke to a person named joy on the phone at fiat Chrysler who said that fiat Chrysler Jeep stand behind their area manager. We asked to have a copy of the area manager report sent to us, she said they won't send it to us. Based on the attached pictures, we cannot tell where this is a cosmetic problem or if the rust will eat through the metal and cause structural deterioration which could be hazardous in a collision. We would like you investigate for possible safety hazard.

40 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/25/2015

I did get into a minor accident while driving onto a on ramp and my vehicle skidded the guard rail. I exited the vehicle to check for damage and saw a flame near the hood of the car and immediately exited. The gas tank was never hit nor did I have a major direct collision in the accident however within seconds the vehicle burst into flames and was completely engulfed. The entire vehicle and my personal contents inside melted into nothing. I loved Jeeps but the incident has persuaded me to avoid purchasing them for the near future.

41 Seats problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/10/2015

I was on 75 south bound going 70 mph. I had just gotten on the interstate from the bruce b downs entrance. After the right lane ended I switched to the middle lane. Coming up to fletcher exit, the gears changed. Almost like the car gave out. I looked down, I didn't change anything. On my way to look back up I see smoke from the hood and smoke through the rare view mirror. Grey smoke in the front and black in the back. I looked down at the gages and it was over heating. Looked to my left, no cars, pulled over to the left emergency lane. As I opened my door, the fire was already spitting out from the front left tire. I grabbed my phone. As I'm walking away, the fire was growing engulfing the whole front of the vehicle. Within minutes, law enforcement arrived on scene and we watched the whole vehicle go up in flames. At first 2 fire trucks put out the fire. Once they left and we were waiting for the tow truck to arrive, it caught fire again. The state trooper had to call the fire department to come back out. Before the fire started, there wasn't a noise or a light blinking to indicate a problem. The vehicle felt the same as it always did. Everything just happened fast and all at once. I never got any recall notices. I had the Jeep for 2 months. Insurance company never did an investigation because there was nothing left to investigate. I never called Chrysler because I didn't have proof who was at fault. I have never heard of this being an issue with Jeeps until I bought my new car and the sales rep looked me in the eyes told me it was manufacturer defect. It happened to 2 of his former clients. Told me Chrysler won't do anything because it can't be proven.

42 Seats problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/09/2014

Driver seat adjustment feature is failing. Primary driver requires seat to be set at highest possible height (vertical) elevation position. Driver has had to repeatedly use manual adjustment feature to raise seat to required height majority of the time that the vehicle is driven. The frequency that the adjustment must be made before driving is increasing. Although the seat has not yet dropped while the vehicle has been in motion, the concern is that it will start to occur in the future. When the seat drops, the primary driver has issues with the visibility and reaching the both the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal. (note: when the driver seat is adjusted to a higher position, it also moves forward. . . Closer to the steering column and brake/gas pedals). In addition, when the seat drops to its default position, the primary driver's face is also put at risk if the airbag is deployed. This could result in a potentially serious injury to the primary driver if the airbag deployed with the seat in the default position. The potential failure of the seat adjustment feature in this vehicle appears to constitute a major safety hazard that may result in a significant injury or death (if failure were to occur while the vehicle was being operated by the primary driver).

43 Seats problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

I started my Jeep this morning in my driveway with the factory remote start, 10 min later I walked out of my house and saw flames and smoke coming from my drivers side door. A car driving by had stopped and called 911. Another neighbor ran over with a fire extinguisher and we were able to get the fire in control before the fire department got there. The driver side door is completely destroyed and melted, the window is gone. The roof, seat and surrounding area are also damaged. The fire appeared to have started somewhere in the driver side door. I called Jeep twice today thinking they would be concerned and responsive, but I was told it would be 2-5 days before they could have someone come out and inspect the car. In the meantime I wait carless. . . Thank goodness my 2 children were not in the car when it happened. I did some research this evening and found the exact same thing happened to a couple in montreal last January and found reports of this happening 2 other times with the exact same make, model & year Jeep.

44 Seats problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

Drivers seat does not remain in position. Upon entering or exiting vehicle the outside of the seat cushion pushes down on the adjustment handle lowering seats position. The adjustment handle can only be mounted in 120 degree increments so forget truing to change position of the handle as it's to far out of usable position that way.

46 Seats problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/10/2008

Driver seat without notice lowers with result that the driver has mirrors that are now not adjusted and visibility issues. I have in good faith tried to get it repaired at dealership and they have in-turn tried to repair by installing two new mechanisms: both replacements do the same. It appears to be an engineering design defect. My vehicle purchased new is a 2008 Jeep rubicon, four door.

47 Seats problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/19/2008

I am currently in possession of a Jeep Wrangler 2 door with a soft top. The only problem with the car is that the soft top leaks like a faucet anytime there is rain. While at first I thought it to only be a nuisance, after the third time I began to notice many problems related to the leaks. The floormats were constantly soaked and eventually started to form mildew, the pedals would become slippery and difficult to operate due to the wetness, the water was occasionally leaking into to speakers on the vents on the dashboard and working its way into the rear of the dashboard, and the seats tended to slide a little bit on the rails that are used to lock the seat in place while driving. This is a widespread problem for the 07 and 08 Wranglers and dealerships seem to be brushing it off as a minor inconvenience. However, when the water starts affecting other systems of the car it is no longer an inconvenience, it is now a safety item. That is why I am bringing this item to your attention.

48 Seats problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/28/2007

Safety issue regarding entry and exit from 07 Jeep Wrangler 2dr. Seat does not fold forward properly to allow an average size adult entry or exit from the rear of the vehicle! in addition, there is improper placement of the seat belt system blocking the path as well. Older model Wranglers had a seat that allowed the seat to fold completely forward.

50 Seats problem of the 2002 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/02/2003

When driving on ice or snow the 4-wheel drive kicks out, causing vehicle to jerk and potentially slid. No impact had been reported. The vehicle was in motion when it felt as if the transmission dropped out. The vehicle had to be stopped to get back into 4wd. The lever was held tightly and popped out again. The vehicle was driven in 2wd for several miles then was able to be placed back into 4wd and stayed. Also, the upholstery had started to tear on the driver's seat and the gaskets on both mirrors deteriorated.

Many problems with this vehicle. Water pump leaked - fixed under warranty, gas tank seal leaked - fixed under warranty, seats ripped - fixed under warranty, suction cup marks on window - fixed under warranty, front stabilizer shock leaked - fixed under warranty, rear window seal leaked - repaired under warranty two times and still leaks, instrument panel fails - out of warranty not repaired, radiator failed - out of warranty fixed at my cost, stabilizer arm failed both sides twice - fixed under warranty once and the out of warranty fixed at my cost, exhaust manifold failed - out of warranty - fixed at my cost, clutch fork failed - out of warranty fixed at my cost, leak under the dash board passenger side - fixed under warranty. Of all the problems above. . . Loss of instrument panel needs to be fixed by the manufacturer regardless of in or out of warranty. Loss of gauges is a driving distraction and can result in an accident. Jeep needs to address this manufacturing defect as long as this vehicle is on the road.

54 Seats problem of the 1998 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/21/1998

Brake rotors had to be re-finished after only 8000 miles. I question the quality of materials Chrysler is using. Steering wheel rubbing: steering column would make a rubbing noise every time it was turned. Did this even on the initial test drive new off the lot. They said it was a simple lubrication issue. 2 weeks later, the noise was back. I brought it in a total of 6 times before the problem was finally resolved, apparently with some new super slick polymer and only after I personally called the factory to get advice. Other issues: driver's seat creaks like an old tractor. They couldn't fix it. I had the problem with the gauges on my dash going off. They knew what that was and dixed it. Exhaust manifold went after only 12,000 miles (more substandard parts used by Chrysler). This is why I hesitate to buy american.
