1 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2017 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/22/2021

Bought the vehicle new in 2017, and in mid-2018, had a synchronizing arm repaired, as the transmission was slipping out of reverse. In 2019, had it looked at again because it was slipping out of 4th gear, and nothing was found. In late 2020, had it in to check a creaking noise when depressing the clutch (local transmission repair shop), and it was full of rust, they said it needed replaced sometime soon. So we took it in now (Feb. 2021) and they suggested that the transmission needed replaced as well because it slipped out of 4th for them when they drove it. Called the dealership, they recommended calling Chrysler, who opened a case, and now I'm taking it in to have it diagnosed at the dealership and followed up through the case at Chrysler. This seems to be an issue, as I've read several complaints about the same problems and fixes.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/07/2020

The vehicle violently jumps out of 1st gear (manual transmission) periodically when taking off. From online research I've done, this has happened to several others also. It happens when first trying to take off in first gear. I've had it happen a couple of times when attempting a left turn at a stoplight. I put it in 1st gear and when letting out the clutch it violently jumps out of gear. It is loud and shocking and obviously the vehicle stops moving forward. I have to quickly push in the clutch to attempt to put it back into gear to try to get through the intersection. Luckily I haven't been hit by an oncoming vehicle, but when you lose all power trying to turn left it is a very dangerous situation. I reached out to a couple of dealers, but they claim to not be aware of the situation. Since I see reports on the Jeep forums, it is obvious to me that it is a common and dangerous issue that needs attention from the manufacturer before someone is seriously injured.

5 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/28/2019

The vehicle jumps out of gear often when beginning acceleration while in first gear and sometimes when turning while in third gear. This is an extremely dangerous defect. It could have particularly deadly consequences when starting from a dead stop and pulling out into traffic or turning in front of oncoming traffic (of course when given plenty of time and space and yielding of right of way to other vehicles), if it were to leave you stopped all of a sudden after popping out of gear. It's unbelievable that Jeep and dealerships deny that this is a problem when it has been going on for over a decade now with no official fix or recall. We've "learned" to drive it with this dysfunction, but this should be leading to wrongful death lawsuits if it ever caused such.

6 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/15/2019

Transmission violently shifts out of 1st gear while starting from a dead stop (stop light, intersection, etc) this is extremely dangerous and someone is likely to get hurt or killed when this causes the vehicle to stall. This is a well documented issue and has been affecting Jeep owners for years. Why hasn"t Jeep done a recall on this very dangerous issue??? this happens at least twice a day if not more. Some owners have it happen every time.

7 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

While turning right from a stop sign on to a major highway with 55 mile an hour speed limit I began to merge into traffic when suddenly the transmission jumped out of first gear causing a loud banging and shiftier violently jumping backwards out of my hand and causing my Jeep to stop accelerating only a few feet from the stop sign and into traffic. I was able to quickly get the transmission back into first gear and merge without incident. This problem was intermittent for almost 6 months and never could I get it to happen when I brought it in to get serviced for this problem. The more I drove the Jeep the more often the problem would occur, until December of 2018 when it would jump out of gear almost every time I started from a dead stop. It was impossible to drive anywhere without being nervous that the next time I tried to start from a dead stop I would either be broadsided or rear ended because of the sudden loss of power. I understand that Jeep has issued a technical bulletin for this problem but I have waited for parts specifically for this repair for several weeks and possibly will be in in about 10 more days according to the service advisor. I have owned several manual transmission vehicles all of them for over 200,000 miles each have never had problems with internal gears and synchronizers. The Jeep has been serviced and is well taken care of not used for towing or any other heavy loading. I don't believe I have done anything out of the ordinary to cause this problem, I do believe that Jeep has a problem with this transmission and is not taking responsibility to repair them. Thanks. . . . .

11 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/14/2018

My Jeep has been jumping out of gear. In traffic, driving in 1st gear, at about 5-10 mph, flat terrain in a straight direction, it jumps out of gear. My Jeep has jumped out of gear in intersections when I am starting from a stop, flat terrain, going straight or turning, it will jump out of first as I am accelerating, I have had several instances where I was almost rear ended. When stopping at a sign or red light, as I start in 1st gear it will aggressively jump out of gear causing me to roll back when on a hill, where I have almost run into the vehicle behind me. There is a service bulletin issued by mopar " number: 21-001-10 rev. A group: transmission date: April 20, 2010" I took my Jeep to have the gear fixed on 04/16/2018 the parts were on back order, not arriving to the dealership until 05/10/2018 and it was finished on 05/18/2018. I am convinced the back order of my parts is due to the fact that this is happening to many other Jeep owners. The dealer found my 1st gear synchronizer was damaged and replaced it.

12 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2017 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/05/2017

Reverse would jump out of gear and grind while driving in gear every time. This required manually holding it down to remain in gear and properly drive in the reverse gear. Fields cjdr in sanford, FL said I would have to agree to pay +$1000 in labor for them to diagnose this if it turned out not to be a valid warranty issue. I declined and accepted living with it. On 12/05/2017, during normal driving suddenly the gearshift could not be put into any gear and the transmission completely failed. My brand new Wrangler with 5000 miles sat at the dealer for service for * days** waiting on two parts: - part: gear-reverse idler 5134496aa - part: synch-reverse 5134498aa fca failed to return the vehicle to me until 03/30/2018. Four months. Not only is that unacceptable, I was treated like garbage throughout the wait by both fca and the dealership service department. I have filed a lemon law claim requesting arbitration with the state of florida attorney general's office and will see a full refund for this ordeal as entitled. Really looking forward to castigating fca at the hearing.

13 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/10/2017

Stalls out when driving. Transmission jumps out of gear. Press on gas doesn't move. Happens out of now where. Very scary driving the vehicle. Took it to dealer and they can't "duplicate" the issue. I have did my own research and found this is a very common issue with this year of Wrangler. Many have had the same complaint and dealer couldn't duplicate. My issue here is that when you know that something is wrong with your car and the dealer can't duplicate the issue and send you on your way knowing this can cause an accident. . Read more...

14 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/25/2017

Vehicle will jump out of 1st gear after 10 feet into an intersection when taking off from a stop, leaving you in the middle of oncoming side traffic while in neutral. I have almost been hit multiple times. There is a service bulletin that Jeep is aware of the dangerous problem. This is on the manual transmission models.

15 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/29/2017

At 73,000 miles the transmission failed. For no reason. The check engine light came on. When I was driving, it felt like the car was slipping out of gear. Nothing had been done to the car that would have warned me that something like this might happen. I was just driving normally, going to work.

16 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/10/2016

After a couple of weeks we noticed water all on the passenger side of the vehicle after raining. I asked the salesman about the leaks and he stated all Jeeps do that. . Carpets continued to get soaked and cannot see where it is leaking so I asked the maintenance tech after our first oil change and I was told to pull the plug under the carpet and drain the water. . I again was told it was normal for a Jeep to leak. . Approx March 2016 the wife was fed up with the water pouring in and the smell of mildew of the carpet due to leakage. She went to the dealer and complained . She was told we had to make an appointment which would be beyond a month and they would keep it for a spell . No rental or loaner. . . I work out of town and getting it in on appointment is not always feasable being my wife is on disability and needs a vehicle. Since then the passenger seatbelt has stuck on numerous occasion and cannot be operated properly. The problem seems to be latch sticking and not releasing. My wife mentioned to me since she drives it more than me, that it pulls and has been for a long time. When I received a letter from Chrysler around oct 15th I sent in negative words of all these issues and when I got a call about these issues I received a call from bonnie a case manager and we talked. She said to get it to the dealer for repairs and if I had any other issuesto call her back and gave me a case number. I contacted the dealer but no repairs yet. They say wait for appointment. I did go to the recall website and noticed others having a weather issue, a few seatbelts and also the so called death wobble. I asked the wife for the full symptoms and to my surprise it is the known death wobble. She said it will shake violantly after 60mph and then jump out of gear , pop into nuetral. Has happened she said 3 times this year. Jeep has never been offroad and top has never been off. .

17 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/07/2016

Two weeks ago the Jeep failed to shift out of gear on the highway while driving to work. Prior to this it was not displaying any issues. Luckily I was able to coast to a stop in the breakdown lane and called for a tow back to the dealership. Later that day I received a call from a service manager, roger that the clutch was worn out and required replacement. I was shocked that a vehicle that is less than a year old with less that 18k miles would need a clutch since about all I do with it is drive to work. He explained that this is a wear part and not under the warrantee since I was over 12k miles. Later the next day they called me down to the dealership to examine the full extent of the damage. The clutch just didn¿t wear it shredded itself apart causing a catastrophic failure in the transmission. The mechanic (who seemed to know what he was talking about) explained that based on the flywheel condition that this was not a case of gradual wear but a sudden failure that damaged the flywheel and transmission housing. He was basing that assessment on the fact that the flywheel was not worn at all and showed me what a worn flywheel would look like. Upon hearing that I insisted that this should be a warranty covered repair as it sounded like a manufacturer¿s defect that caused this and certainly nothing I¿ve done. Basically the clutch exploded and caused this. I've posted this story on a few Jeep forums and found a few other Jeep owners that were told the same this. Its about time fca take responsibility for this and issue a recall before anyone gets hurt.

18 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/29/2016

12 jkru 52,000 miles. It first happened at night while wife was driving on interstate Jeep went crazy mode all lights in cluster illuminated warning lights flashing and with hot oil msg, warning dings going off, heard electric fan running . It seemed that nothing was controllable, auto trans went into and would not shift out of first gear. Scared the hell out of my wife. Got home after shut off I tried to restart but nothing happened. I disconnected battery to reset cpu that did not work. I stopped by auto zone to get codes scanned . They told me every system was reporting failure and needs to go to dealer. After restart every thing was normal. After 100 yards down the street it all happened again. Pulled into store parking lot, turned Jeep off and would not restart till 4th try. Drove it strait to dealer in first gear with all. They said that it was tipm and not under warranty, gave MA a rental car for 10 days because part is on back order. After 10 days Chrysler quit paying for rental car and still have no part to fix Jeep it has been 16 days. I guess there are alot of failures for the tipm causing back order and do not know when they will get one.

20 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/22/2015

The Jeep jumps out of gear without any warning almost causing a accident with the car behind me!.

21 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/20/2015

I bought the 2007 Jeep jk used with approximately 81,000 miles. Shortly, after owning the vehicle I experienced the jump out of gear (jog). It is a very frightening, and potentially dangerous problem with this transmission. The problem occurs when starting in first gear from a dead stop. Most often, there are vehicles behind you, when the jog occurs the vehicles behind are not prepared for your loss of forward momentum. On one instance I have been hit from behind. On many other instances there have been some close calls. The other danger is if one is pulling out and crossing a traffic lane. Losing forward momentum can be very dangerous as cars approach from either the left or right side. I truly believe this issue is a result of a transmission design flaw that should be covered by Jeep no matter if the original warranty has expired. In most of these cases, there has to be several related injuries before these manufacturers will take action. It is all a cost benefit analysis.

22 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/02/2015

Malfunction indicator light comes on repeatedly. Implausible data reported from a module that the dealership claims is not even in the vehicle. Occasionally the vehicle will not go above about 1800 rpm and 15 miles an hour. At other times the rpms will surge up into the 5000-6000 range and not shift out of 1st gear. Dealerships claim there are no problems but the shifting problem continues to occur and the malfunction indicator light keeps coming on.

23 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

When pulling out into the road after stopping at a stop sign the transmission slipped out of 1st gear. It was dangerous as I lost my ability to accelerate when I needed it the most (crossing a busy road). It has been slipping or popping out of 1st gear w increasing frequency. I took it to a transmission repair shop and they found a service bulletin posted by the manufacture of essentially a known issue that other people were complaining about the same problem. The Jeep has 28k miles on it and is in great condition otherwise. Apparently this is a known defect and not causes by normal wear and tear. This problem has the potential to cause a serious accident. The dealership won't fix it under warranty and I feel it should be covered as this problem is both a safety issue and known defect.

27 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/09/2013

In December, my manual transmission 2008 Jeep Wrangler began jumping out of first gear when accelerating from a stop. The chances of this happening increase with higher rpms, so a quick acceleration or accelerating up a hill make it worse. It's incredibly dangerous as it usually puts me close to a stop as I'm trying to accelerate from a stop sign or when a traffic light turns green. Potential for rear-ending is high.

33 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/05/2013

The vehicle jumps out of first gear when starting from a full stop. The stick shift violently jumps back into neutral and occurs unpredictably. It is extremely dangerous when this happens when I'm turning into traffic (risk of being t-boned) or else from dead stops when somebody is behind me (risk of being rear-ended).

34 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

First a whining sound began in the case and got worse over the next 10,000 miles, then at 90,000 it wouldnt shift out of 4 wheel drive for a varying amount of time maybe 15 seconds one time or 10 minutes other times etc. When it did shift out of 4 wheel it would bang so loud and hard it felt like you ran over a large object, it actually threw you up in the air a bit . When you got stuck in snow and needed 4 wheel it only would make a ratcheting sound. Jeep refused to fix it under warranty because its a rhd postal Jeep. It cost $1744. 00 to fix it with a rebuilt case that can only be purchased from Jeep. It is dangerous because when it shifted it went out of control and when you were stuck in snow you didnt know when it would shift into or out of 4 wheel.

35 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/09/2012

It is extremely dangerous when this happens when I'm turning into traffic (risk of being t-boned) or else from dead stops when somebody is behind me (risk of being rear-ended). I have even helt the stickshift in first gear when starting from a dead stop and it has jumped out hurting my wrist.
