1 Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 04/12/2021

Just financed from a dealer on 4/12, had major oil leak, had to return to dealership. Supposed to have been fixed, but currently still have a bad oil leak. Still waiting for a week for an appointment to take it back to the dealer to have it checked out. Engine makes a noise when idling, almost like a "miss".

2 Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/13/2021

While driving in city or highway, you hear engine noise, see illumination of the check engine warning light, illumination of the low oil warning light. Then vehicle propulsion stops suddenly, continues to coast but pressing on the accelerator has no effect, the engine doesn't rev. Stopping, turning off engine for 30 or more minutes may allow vehicle to start and move again. Also fuel smell.

The car has been making a fluttering noise for a couple of weeks. I took it to my mechanic last week when the car dragged after stopping, and it seemed that it might stall out. My mechanic told me the engine needs to be replaced, and could go at any time.

5 Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

6 Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 09/22/2019

I woke up one day and went to head over to my buddies house. It was a fifteen minute drive and when I got there I told him my car started sounding funny on the way over. The oil was good and everything else so we took it for a drive down the street so he could listen to it. We got to the light a half mile down the house and the engine made a scratching noise and I started to lose power I also felt my steering wheel lose power steering and then I was at the front of the row in the turn lane. My car crawled through the intersection but I made it to the side of the street and my parents towed it home on their trailer. We took it to an auto shop and the mechanic said the engine failed due to cheap stock bearings around the cam. The bearings gave out and the metal shredded inside and was sent through the engine. Since it's pre owned I can't get a new engine and this specific engine in this make and model hasn't been recalled yet.

7 Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

Car needs oil every 1,000 miles or so with no leaks. Engine eats oil and is always several quarts low. Daughter was driving car and it stopped excellerating. Catalytic converter just had to be replaced at 82,000 miles. Engine noise with vibrations. My daugher is afraid to drive the car. Kia says warranty expired 2,000 miles ago and won't fix car. Car is extremely unsafe!.

9 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 03/15/2019

Our local kia dealership diagnosed this problem with our car on 3/15/19. 2012 kia Forte sx 2. 4l (106,430 miles, 6430 miles out of warranty) found the engine to be knocking. Found the #2 rod bearing to be severely worn and causing the engine to make noise and stop rotating. Recommend replacing the engine. The 2. 4l theta ii engine was not part of original recall so kia would not replace engine and since it was out of warranty we were responsible for the cost of a replacement engine and labor. We declined, and car as sat stationary for past two years at our home. When we found out this 2. 4l theta ii engine was now included in a recent recall we asked kia to provide alternatives to replacing the engine since the car has sat for two years and I no longer have faith in the reliability of this car as parts of the car are no longer in working condition and/or missing. They refused any alternatives. They wanted us to pay to have the car towed to a local kia dealer to diagnose a problem that was already diagnosed back on 3/15/19. The original class action lawsuit over the 2. 0l and 2. 4l gdi engines provided alternatives to engine replacement and reimbursement for expenses associated with the engine failure (like towing), rebates, etc. Since kia was found at fault and fined by the us government over their delay in recalling these 2. 4l theta ii engines and since that delay was the only reason we didn't fix this car on 3/15/19 we feel we should be compensated for our expenses and loss of transportation because of their faulty engine and their negligence in delaying the recall. Having the engine replaced now is no longer a viable option for us. We offered to purchase a new vehicle with the cost of engine replacement/labor put towards a rebate, kia refused.

10 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 10/20/2018

We have a 2012 kia Forte that we bought new. Only has 44,000 miles on it. We take care of it and don't drive it into the ground. 2 months ago, engine started making noises, and car started stalling. Check engine light came on and we managed to get it to the shop, where oil and engine were checked. Everything seemed ok, no main reason found as to why. Some more oil was added and were told to drive it to reset everything and the engine light would go off. 2 months, 2 oil changes/tune ups and engine light will not come off. Last week, as we're leaving for my kids birthday party, car keep stalling out when we try to put it into drive. Had it towed to dealer where he says we'll need a new engine. Now we're trying to get kia to pay for the engine, and we still can't get an answer as to what is causing this. On another note, this is the second kia engine we've had to get. Our 2015 kia sorento had to have the engine replaced last summer (when it was only 3 years old). Really wondering why the Forte wasn't included in the engine recall, seems like a lot of people are dealing with this.

11 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 08/28/2018

Back in June 2018, I was driving along the interstate, running about 75 and heard what sounded like a flapping noise then all the dash board lights came on and the car stalled. Had to get it towed back home. Come to find out the motor had seized up. I've read numerous complaints on the 2. 4 engine in the kia's but none have made it to the recall list when they are doing the same thing that the motors in the optimas, sorento and sportage. How is the Forte any different when they have the same motor. Found a used motor out of a 2013 kia Forte koup sx that had 39,000 miles on it. Bought and installed it. Put right at 4,100 miles on it and low and behold, it did the same thing. Except this time I was coming off the interstate on a curve off ramp with the car stalled on me. Luckily I was able to get it started this time to make it home. So now I have another bad engine and my car is just sitting until I can save up and find another engine. This time, I'll probably pay extra to have a completely remanufactured engine. Tired of playing russian roulette with these used kia engines.

12 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 07/12/2018

While driving at 65+ mph on the freeway, this 2013 kia Forte sx lost power (engine light, oil light and battery light illuminated), steering stiffened and vehicle rapidly decelerated. It was very difficult and dangerous to get the vehicle directed over to the freeway shoulder. The vehicle has 61,619 miles. It was towed to a kia dealership where, based on engine noise, kia has diagnosed a rod bearing malfunction at the bottom of the engine. This engine is the 2. 4l theta-ii mpi (multi-port injection) engine (vs the gdi, or gasoline direct injection, engine that has already been recalled).

13 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 06/09/2018

I was entering the freeway, accelerated to match traffic speed, I heard the engine's rpms increase but almost immediately afterwards the car shut down. I was in the middle lane of a very busy interchange and going about 60mph when the car quit. I kept trying to restart the car by putting it in neutral and at the same time steer it towards the shoulder. There were no warning lights. When I heard the engine noise I looked at the dash, all was normal, the d for drive was visible. It happened very quickly. Once stopped and out of traffic, I tried to restart the car, it ran for just seconds then nothing. This car had just been serviced at the kia dealer. It only has 51k miles on it. I had to have it towed to the dealer. They are telling me the engine is faulty but they don't make it anymore and they have no resolution for me. The car is only 4 months past the 5 year mark and it is under 60000 miles. It has been maintained perfectly, it still looks new. The original owner did all the service as well. Kia knows they have faulty engines, yet they do nothing to warn the owners or remedy the problem. The say their cars are good for 10yrs or 100k miles, then they should make it so. This car is a top of the line 2013 Forte sx (with all the bells and whistles) . I believe it is also affected by the latest airbag recall as well.

14 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 03/09/2018

Takata recall car started to make noises. Then after getting it checked out I was told the car needed a whole new engine! it is only 6 years old. Bought used from a dealer in 2013. Engine died on the way home still have a loan and can't even drive it!!!! saw multiple peoples complaints online for same problem! when will I have a recall to drive a car that I am still paying for. The car was in motion and going straight on a state road when this accured. Speed limit on state road I was on is 50 when the engine started pinging electrical went off then motor stopped. This caused us to have to push vehicle off to side of road.

15 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 09/23/2017

Rod bearing failure on a 2012 kia Forte koup 2. 4l engine at approx. 93,300 miles with no prior issues. Engine was properly maintained and never abused. Began rattling while driving normally on the freeway and was subsequently determined to be the #2 piston hitting the head. No prior indication of anything wrong, no unusual engine noise, no "idiot" lights, no misfire, no vibration, nothing, just a sudden pulsing noise that was first thought to be the exhaust sound from a passing harley.

16 Engine Noise problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

In 2016, just a few months past the five year warranty, engine started making noise. $5k repair. Engine had broken engine bearing causing knock sound. Less than 50k miles. Many models that year recalled for engine problems, same model in surrounding years recalled for engine problems, only two remanufactured engines in country when I needed a replacement. This should've had a recall. It's a cover up by kia.

17 Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 01/20/2016

When the car accelerates from a stop, there is severe valve pinging sound. Kia motors America is aware of the issue, but are not taking any steps to address the issue "as it does not do anything to the car". The noise is very severe on the 2015 Forte and it is a defect in the design of the car. The wind noise and the valve ping make the car very loud. The dealer says that since Kia Motors America is not addressing the issue, nothing can be done. Kia motors America has been aware of this issue for years but have failed to do anything about as they are do not care about their customers. Recommendations include upgrading to better gas, but the noise still persists. Kia recommends and advertises regular unleaded for the Forte, but a more expensive plus or premium grade is needed to decrease the sound of the ping. There is an additional added expense to the car that kia fails to address.

18 Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 07/29/2014

On 2 occasions the car has stalled while making a left turn. The first time it was in April 2014. 2nd time it happened was around July 29th 2014. I first report it to the dealership back in March when I took the car in for a oil change. They would not put it down on the paper work to look at it since they could not replicate the problem. Then reported it to a different dealership as well as kia. The new dealership did put it down on paperwork. But since they are not able to replicate the problem, they would not look into it further. Also have reported a engine noise to the first dealership. They first told me it was a standard noise. So we started getting videos of the noise. They then said they would replace the engine. The same day that we picked the car back up from the engine being replaced we heard a noise coming from the car. Some how the right drive axle got broke. They said they did not work around that area. So then that means that they committed fraud by falsifying docs when they said they replaced the engine. 2 days after finally getting the car back the engine noise came back. Now I got told that they will not look at the car until the check engine light comes on or the car comes in on a tow truck. Now the biggest concern is the car just stalling while driving?what happens now if we get into a accident. This really needs to be looked at. Kia needs to be held responsible for this. It is not normal for a car with less than 14,000 miles on it to just up and stall. I am tired of hearing everything is standard. Kia is fraud they do not want to honor their warranty that they sell.

19 Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 09/17/2013

I have a 2014 kia Forte since September 2013 acquired several days the unit is started having a vibration in the engine. These vibrations are felt throughout the car and when in low or stopped. I took him to the service center where you buy and service technicians always tell me that no faults everything is working well, the vibration that I describe is normal in these cars, this due to the technology of motor bracket. As of today I'm not happy and I understand that the drive is failing. I'm really disappointed with the explanation given me the service center. A new car zero miles per more technology should not have to have much vibration in the engine. Further details of the unit that are wrong are the strange sounds of the valves and the sound engine braking.

20 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 12/30/2012

My vehicle is driven only minimally with presently 23540 miles registered on the odometer. Since new, the engine has always experienced pre-ignition and pinging, especially under light load. I suspect a problem with the spark timing exists. The second problem is a piston slapping sound heard during cold engine operation. It is certainly not a normal sound. Both problems were reported soon after vehicle purchase in 2012. The service dealership concluded that the sounds were normal for the engine design. My concern is that either condition can lead to an engine fire.

21 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

Kia Forte 2013 purchased new and had problems with car when driving 55-70 miles at highway speed. The car shakes, tires make noises like they're flat, trouble with steering, really rough ride, smoke came from engine and the car has been a pain considering it's supposed to be new. It also leaks when it rains and sometimes you can't see out rear window. All these things and more were reported to Kia Motors who sent me to dealership. The dealership scoffed at the referral, stated Kia Motors knows about problems and allegedly checked Forte reporting nothing can be done and nothing is wrong. The car continues to have problems and is a total waste of money plus feels unsafe. There should be some accountability with kia somewhere but there isn't. . . Guess that's the business cushion.
