1 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 11/28/2020

While driving, my car just shut off and wasn't working. I was unable to start it again. No oil lights, no engine lights, or any other warning lights came on prior to it dying. The dealership is telling me there is no oil in the motor and I am not understanding. I had the oil changed every 3-5,000 miles. The car shouldn't have stopped operating with no warning lights. The car was in motion when it abruptly shut off. I was traveling on a city street during that time.

3 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 04/03/2020

While in motion, on three separate occasions on one drive, the engine of the vehicle completely shut off. The electrical system remained active. All three times the engine shut off while accelerating. Once after slowly going over railroad tracks. Once after backing out of a driveway and giving gas after going from "reverse" to "drive". And finally, when slowing for a turning vehicle and accelerating to go up a slight incline. I had a mechanic look it over and despite checking and testing every common cause, he could not recreate the scenario. Also, he reported that there were no diagnostic codes thrown as a result of the event.

4 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 11/28/2019

I bought my 2012 kia Forte 2. 0l with 30,000 miles 3 years ago. I now have 100,955 miles. Maintenance has been kept up and vehicle has been working fine with no issues. My husband was driving and was at a stop light when the car just shut down. When you would turn the key you would here 1 click and then nothing. We bought a starter because we tested the starter on the vehicle and it was bad. Still even after replacing the starter you would only hear one click. I had a mechanic come look at the car only to tell me that my engine has locked up. Says its caused by poor maintenance and/or bad design. He said the first thing he checked was the maintenance and everything was perfect on the car, but again my engine was locked up.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 11/08/2019

While driving my car on the highway at 60 miles per hour, my car shut off and all the light on the dash board went out and the car would not start. I try to restart my car and it would not start again. As I got it off the road, I try to restart the car with no luck and white smoke coming from the engine compartment. There was no warning light that came on while driving the car. The smoke smelled like electrical in nature.

6 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 06/14/2019

Kia Forte 2016 - while driving the engine shuts off and it loses power steering breaks, this has happened many times. Stopped at a red light, starting the car, driving 10 mph, 50mph, 35 mph. I have had to use the emergency break to stop. The car is still in drive, the key is turned on, the dashboard goes out, but the radio and clock stay on. I have taken it to 2 kia dealerships 4 times total and the issues continue. Not safe to drive.

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Forte

Several months ago I was driving to the Forte and the car idled down and stopped at the stop sign and shut off. The next day I was driving home and I heard a noise from the hood, the car began idled down then shut off while driving. The car was taken to a mechanic shop, there were no oil going through the lines. Many months before that I was out with the Forte and it would not start, that happened several times, I got the oil changed and I was told no oil was getting through the line. Recently, this month I was driving the Forte to work and the car began to jump and idling down the engine was trembling and the vehicle shut down. A tow truck was called.

11 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 06/02/2016

I bought a 2012 kia Forte ex hatchback with 60,000 miles about a month ago. Two instances have occurred which I believe might be related. First time I was traveling @ 65mph around a 50mph curve on cruise control. I hit a bump, and cruise control shut off automatically. No big deal, I just put my foot on the gas and reset the cc after the curve. However, yesterday, I was nearing the beginning of a merge ramp to get on the interstate. I was turning and accelerating when I hit a pothole and the engine shut off. Instead of merging onto the interstate, I coasted @ 5-10 mph until I could reach the side of the road. I put the car in park, turned the key off and then immediately started the car back up. There were no warning lights and the car ran like a top. This is a serious safety problem and I am lucky I didn¿t get rear-ended (this was an on/off ramp, so cars were piling up behind me and honking due to my slow speed). I had the car checked by a mechanic before I bought it and he said that although there was no cel, there was a code in the computer for the ¿yaw¿ sensor (he told me if the car runs ok, he wouldn¿t worry about replacing it). Knowing this, I have turned off the electronic stability control in hopes that the issue is related and will not happen again if the esc is off. Car is in good shape and was well taken care of by previous owner.

12 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/02/2016

I am the original owner of my 2013 kia Forte ex, the vehicle roughly has 70,000 miles on it. The vehicle has always been properly maintained via oil changes, filters, etc on time with quality name brand fully synthetic oil and filters per the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule which is every 7500 miles. I was driving my vehicle home on a very busy freeway on the east coast. I was in the center lane of 5 lanes on the south bound side and all of a sudden my car lost all power and was slowing down at an unsafe rate of speed because I had no power and did not want to touch the brakes obviously. I panicked but was able to put my right signal on to try and get to the shoulder of the freeway I continued to panic because my car was steady slowing and eventually would come to a stop because I had no power, the gas pedal would not function and I knew the car shut down because all the lights were on on the dash as if you were starting the car. Thankfully someone was watching over me that day and I made it to the shoulder before the car rolled to a complete stop. If I were unable to safely move over two lanes and make it to the shoulder on momentum I would have been stopped in a lane of travel on a busy freeway and what would I have done? I probably would have caused and been part of a major accident, even though I did make it to the shoulder I was still panicking because this is a very busy freeway and I felt helpless. The car would not start it would make a funky noise and that's it but would never start so I was stranded. I looked in my owners manual and called kia, the dealership was 10 minutes from my location. I was told there was nothing they could do because they didn't have a tow truck and I was on my own. I had the car towed there and was told the engine blew up and it was the bottom end. I believe it was in the timing system and kia is lying.
