The contact owns a 2004 kia Optima. While driving at an unknown speed, the contact heard a grinding noise coming from the rear passenger side tire. The vehicle was taken to the shop the following day for an oil change, and it was discovered that the rear passenger caliper was frozen and would not release. The rotor and caliper were replaced. Approximately 8,000 miles later, the pads and rotors had to be replaced again. There is no recall regarding this failure. The current mileage was 17,080 and failure mileage was 80,000.

I recently purchased a kia Optima 2004, on December 28,2005 I notice a piercing noise coming from the back of my car. I took the car into the local dealership who indicated that I needed new brake pads and that my rotors were rusted. My question is how can a car that is brand new and only driven for 14 months have rusted rotors. Isn't there safety standards on material used so that this does not occur in such short of a time. It was not covered under warranty which resulted in a bill totaling $659. 00. My purpose of purchasing a new car was to avoid constant repairs right away. I feel that all of the fine print was not disclosed when kia advertises a bumper to bumper warranty for a car up to 100,000 miles. I even called the national customer service hotline for kia and they had no explanation as to why this could have occurred in such short of a time. The car has only seen 1 winter.
When braking vehicle vibrated severely. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the consumer that the front brake rotors and pads needed to be replaced due to excessive wear.

Bought kia Optima on June 22, 2004 VIN# [xxx] and have since had seven service appointments, replaced two sets of drive belts, replaced a leaking power steering rack, replaced a leaking fuel regulator, machined the front rotors, lost time from work, lost productivity from work as well as jeopardized my wife's work from car pooling for five months, completed scheduled arbitration with the bbb without success for four problems: acceleration delay, low grinding brake noise, low vibration steering noise, and loud squealing noise from the drive belts. Updated 07/24/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Rotors warped, not worn out, warped completely around 55,000 miles. Car has a 60,000 mileage/5 year bumper to bumper warranty and kia will not honor it. Contacted langhorne kia service dept. And was told that I was lucky that they lasted so long. I was informed that kia changed the way they make the rotors and that the new rotors heat quickly causing them to warp when the milage is usually under 30,000 miles.
I bought a used kia Optima 2002 in January of 2003. It had about 23000 miles on it. We took a trip to lake tahoe in Feb. 2003 and on the ride home every time I braked comming down the mountain the car would jerk and shake violently. When we got home I took the car into the dealer and they repaired it for me after I pleaded and argued with them. Less than 8 months later the same poblem started happening again so I took my in and they automaticaly placed the blame on me. They told me that I must be driving my car way to hard and don't know how to properly apply the brakes. That came from the service department manager. They then told me that thay are not reasponsible for repaires that are caused by bad driving. We'll here it is less than four months later and I'm about to pay another $700 for a problem that is not my fault and my brakes are the worst yet. Oh and by the way the last time that I had my car fixed they refused to show me the parts that they took off my car. Said that it is unusual to show the parts to the owner. I find that strange. Someone needs to refresh them on the laws. When I purchased my car I also purchased a 5 yr bumper to bumper warrenty which is good until 82000 miles and my car know has 47000 and about to go through its third complete brake job.
I have had a ongoing problem with the premature wearing of the front brake pads. This problem causes vibrating and pulsation when applying pressure to the brakes. The first time I took it into the dealer, they looked at it and told me that nothing was wrong. When I brought the car home, my husband was not happy with the response I received and we brought it back a second time. The replaced the rotors but charged me a $35. 00 fee. It has been approximately 4 months and the same problem is beginning to happen again. I purchased my car brand new and it is less than 2 years old with 19900 miles.
