I left the dealer lot at closing time 2/5/2021 the traction light and brake lights warnings were on the abs light the car brakes skidded upon applying brakes driving at a slow speed the car shook while applying brakes and it felt as though the entire motor was going to fall out . Later my 17 year old whom has driven for 2 years was driving a few miles from home she said the steering went out the brakes went out she skid across to the other side of the road did not hit anything yet the entire engine and entire front end of the car came apart the frame and all . She could easily have been killed I would like this investigated thoroughly. I told her to drive slow and she was only going around the corner I had planned to take it back to the dealer the following Monday bjut was totalled before I did. She reported going 45 mph on a road when I had the issues I was driving about 35 to 45 on a regular road did not drive it on an interstate yet due to the uneasy ways it was handeling and I have never had a wreck in all my years of driving and 1 and a half hour drive each way to work for 40 years . The car also felt as though it was accelerating on its own also'.

Tl- the contact and his daughter leased a 2017 kia Optima hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the parking brake would active independently as the parking brake warning light would simultaneously appear on the instrument panel. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at 55 mph, the parking brake had activated independently as the check hybrid warning message appeared on the instrument panel. Due to the parking brake activation, she lost control of the vehicle as the rear tires began to lock. The vehicle began to skid sideways and the contact also lost control of the power steering. The brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle continued to accelerate. As a result, the vehicle hit a guard rail which caused the vehicle to flip approximately six times and ultimately landed in a wooded area. The front air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact's daughter was initially trapped in the vehicle, once she was removed by paramedics, she was treated at the scene for minor bruises and burns in an ambulance. She did not seek further medical assistance after the accident. A police report was filed at the scene of the accident. The vehicle was totaled as a result of the accident and was towed to an independent tow yard. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was given a case number. The failure mileage was 23,000. The brake lights would not go off when I turned my car off. This ended up killing my battery. When I got the battery recharged it allowed the car to start without the brakes being pushed in. Also I noticed that the stopper had broken. This allowed the computer to think that the brakes were engaged even though the peddle wasn't pushed.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 kia Optima sx turbo 4cyl. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the rear brake light failed to illuminated properly as the brake pedal is depressed. Traction control warning illuminated. The contact mentioned that when the ignition is on the transmission shifter became default to move without applying the brakes. The vehicle has an appointment at the dealer bob bell kia of baltimore 7900 eastern Ave, baltimore, MD 21224 to date 9/23/2020 for a diagnosed test to be ran. The vehicle has not been seen or diagnosed as of yet. The contact mentioned NHTSA campaign number: 13v114000 service brakes, hydraulic, exterior lighting as a possible solution to the failure that occurred however the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. Ck.

Both back brake lights went out at same time and we replaced lights and still does not work. Happened when I was driving home.
While driving on the interstate the car began to lose power even though I had my foot on the gas pedal. Once home, after turning the car off I noticed that the brake lights were still on. Driving the next morning we paid attention to the brake light in the rear window and every time the car would start to slow down or seem to lose power the brake light was on. It is almost as if the brakes are engaging on their own. You could see the light flickering but if you hold your foot under the pedal to keep it from moving there was no issue.

I have continued to replace my headlight and taillight over a 5 month period. I was stopped the other day because my brake light and tail light weren't working. I replaced the lights and the brake light wasnt effectively working but the turn signal was working. Now today the brake light and turn signal are working but my light that makes the car visible at night isn't and my yellow lights on the headlights only work when I press the brake.
Brake light switch malfunctioning. Brake light on all the time rendering cruise control and electronic stability control inoperable. Loss of power in engine as it thinks brakes are applied making it dangerous to drive. Root cause is brake pedal stopper (kia part 32876-36000) developing a puncture hole over time making the brake switch believe brakes are applied. Known issue on other kia models. Believe the sorento already have a recall for something very similar.

While driving my check brake light will come on intermittently. Seems to happen more frequently when its warm outside. The traction control light always comes on at the same time. The brake light will go off after the car is turned off and restarted, the traction light will stay on for awhile. Sometimes it will go off after a few miles, others it takes a day to go off. Only difference I can see while driving is that before it comes on the brakes will grab harder than usual. The lights only come on when the car is in motion or immediately after coming to a stop. Never when in park. This started a few days after I purchased the car. I've had the car at the kia dealership many times for this issue and they have never fixed the problem.
While driving the vehicle began to decelerate (brake) on its own. When I pressed on the gas pedal the car would not accelerate. I was almost rear ended when I attempted to merge into traffic because my car immediately began to decelerate while pressing the gas pedal. It happened once again while driving on the interstate at about 65 mph and within seconds decelerated to about 40 mph without ever pressing the brake pedal. The brake lights are on even when the car is turned off. Due to this it appears my "traction control" warning indicator becomes illuminated. I am aware that a recall was issued for this exact same thing but only for the 2012-2014 kia forte (recall number 17v773000). This is a major safety issue/hazard for which the recall needs to be extended to the 2012 kia Optima as well.
Brake rear lights went out, changed brake switch and fuse and lights still not working. Only have 49800 miles on the car. Was on highway and a man stooed me and let me know they are not working.
Brakelights come on, even when car is turned off. When brakelights came on during driving, the gas pedal would not work to accelerate the car. Brake lights came on without ever touching the brake. Apparently the kia forte 2012-2014 has a recall for this exact issue but none has been issued on the Optima. This is a safety issue because the car unexpectedly loses acceleration power. Very dangerous, specially when merging or passing on an expressway.
Brake lights will not go off after I turn off my car. Sometimes the brake lights and back lights pops on even when the car is off and will not turn off. The slippery when wet light stays on at all times. When I am driving the car and I have to use the brakes to stop at a red light or stop sign the car moves very slowing and stalls. Sometimes when I am driving the car looses power. I was driving on the interstate twice and the car just lost power and began to slow down. This was a huge safety concern. Now the car has no power.
Brake switch recalled on 2011 models, but my 2012 will not start mostly when it gets cold outside, brake pedal stiffens and wont decompress for engine to start, push buttn wont start car brake lights dont work. Vehicle will leave stranded without warning. It will work and then not work, intermitten.
When reversing the brakes take 5 to 10 seconds to release, also the brake light stays on the entire time of this issue happening.

2 day ago I was driving to work on the freeway and my car start acting weird like it wanted to stop, I paid no mind. So then that night coming home from work it start acting up again, this time I saw my brake lights turn on and my car started slowing fiwn. I had lost acceleration I had no response to the gas pedal. I would step on my brakes then release and the lights would go back to normal. This happened the whole 45 mins back home. So the next morning I was doing some research on what could cause this found out that the brake sensor stopper would not work properly on the kia forte. But it seems that this happen to the kia as well. It is very dengerous trying to drive like this especially on the freeway.
Brake lights stayed on when car was off cruise control light stayed on problems with acceleration took to dealer they said it needed new brake pedal sensor $160 to replace.
I first noticed a problem with my vehicle when the cruise control would randomly disengage while going down the interstate. Then a couple of weeks later I was making a left turn across a two lanes of traffic on a city street. When I first pushed the accelerator the car started to go and then suddenly I lost all acceleration. I let my foot off the accelerator and then pushed back down and was able to go. This was a very dangerous situation as I was stuck in the middle of two lanes of traffic for several extra seconds longer than necessary. A similar situation happened a couple of more time and when I parked the vehicle at home I noticed that brake light was staying on after I got out of the car. I took the car to the local kia dealership and they replaced the brake sensor which fixed all of the above problems. I would like to not that Hyundai issued a recall on the nearly identical sonata for this same issue and did so years ago and yet nothing for the Optima.
The anti-lock braking system failed on this car. If you would hit a bump in the road while acceleration the car would detect a spinning condition and cause major deceleration being very dangerous when entering a freeway in moderate traffic taking the vehicle from 60+ mph to virtually 40 mph with no warning and no brake lighting to warn approaching traffic. After many visits to kia dealer remained unaddressed until contacting corporate kia and finding a posting on kia Optima forum with another user that had same issue and was finally resolved with some hydraulic part replacement that costs $1,600 and was being avoided by dealers. When I brought this to kia corporates attention they agreed to replace with that part which did almost resolve that issue except on rare instances car will still hesitate when encountering a bump on acceleration. After that repair however the anti-lock brakes are now failing with erratic pulsing on hard braking and less effective braking.
While I was not notified about a recall, until recently, the dealer advised my information was probably not passed on to the proper authorities from the previous owner. I went to the kia dealer in crystal river and they supposedly put a new brake light switch on my vehicle and when I left the dealership my abs/esc lights were illuminated on the dash and my car started doing all kinds of funny things like vibrating and shuttering under the gas pedal. You know you could feel the shuttering on the gas pedal. At that point I had no brakes and barely stopped. I thought it was only a temporary thing but now its doing it all the time and I can't feel safe driving the car at all. I still owe almost 9000. 00 dollars and can't afford a costly repair from a recall. . I have spoke with some people and they advised that the recall has been causing the ecs to malfunction in many cases and caused the stability of the car and abs to act up.

If there is light wheel spin upon takeoff (especially turning and accelerating, such as pulling out of a parking lot onto a road) it causes car to lose power for a few seconds. When this happens accelerator can be depressed all the way to floor and vehicle does not have power and will not accelerate. Car also activates anti-lock brakes when lightly pressing the brake pedal while driving over a small bump at speeds greater than 25 mph. These symptoms occur with stability control engaged (default setting when car is turned on) stability control / traction control is overly sensitive, and can cause an accident.
The contact owns a 2011 kia Optima. While the vehicle was parked, the stop lamps failed which caused the brake warning light to illuminate. In addition, the transmission shifter would not move out of the park position. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 13v114000 (exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the brake warning light would illuminate intermittently. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,000.
February 2013 started experincing electrical issues. Example: rear window brake light stopped working (had to have replaced), then trouble with turn signal light would at times not work. The air conditioner started blowing hot air: added coolant and fr( July 2013) but still isnt working right. Then then cd player had issues where it would not eject cd or fail to read the disk at all. Then the radio stopped working too. June 2014 car wouldnt start had to relpace battery but still wouldnt charge. January 2015 installed new alternator, still didnt fix the issue. Had the charging system inspected February 2015. Turned out to be a short or failure due to electrical issue has to get it fixed. Februrary 2015 electrical repairs (switch, plug, fuse). March 2015 car is making grinding noise when pressing down on the break, it is very hard to bring the car to a full stop and makes a grinding sound when making turns as well.

After getting the brake light recall switch exchanged the next day my car started making dragging noise and so me clicking sounds in the back rear especially on the right side. I took it jeffrey kia, roseville, michigan on gratiot avenue and I was told it was the right brake pad and the left rotor and it would be $300. I told him I had a warranty, extended warranty and a tire warranty and that I do not ride my brakes and has never experience this type of problem with any car I have drove. Mike calls me back and says he can order some generic pads and fix the rotor for $169. When I went to pick it up he placed on pad on one side and one rotor on the other side and the breaking seems unsure of a complete stop. The distance seems too long. My credit is messed up due to family but I am going to have to sell this car and get a new one because this is definitely a defect. I have had this car since October 2010 and barely drive it. Either kia is a rip off or jeffrey kia is because the time before this I was told by [xxx] I needed a battery when I did not. At this service call it was not even mentioned. I believe they have rolled back the promoters on this vehicle and sold it as new and it is defective but they are making me pay for the defects. They may be creating them because this is crazy. Per NHTSA recall number 13v114 I took my 2009 kia Optima to koons kia in woodbridge on 11/21/2013 to replace my vehicle's stop lamp switch. The next day I noticed that after applying the brakes for the first time the brake lights are continuously illuminated and remain illuminated after I have shut down the engine and the ignition switch is in the off position. Another problem is that the electronic stability control (esc) light intermittently comes on. Both of the above problems arose after the 11/21/2013 stop lamp switch replacement.
I was driving the vehicle on the highway and it made a continual noise until brakes were applied. The vehicle would occasionally make the noise even when stopped until I pushed on the brakes. The esc light, brake light and abs light were on and would occasionally turn off when brakes applied. I immediately took the vehicle to hullman's Ford for diagnostics. I was notified that the vehicle hydraulic electronic control unit was faulty.
I was backing up to part my vehicle and pulled forward to straighten out the car. While pulling forward I applied my brake and the engine accelerated - I then slammed my brake and the car stopped. I put the car in reverse and parked. Turned the car back on and carefully moved forward incident did not repeat. Took my vehicle to the kia dealership at burdick drivers village in cicero, NY and diagnostics recommended replacing the brake light switch. There is currently a recall for Hyundai elantra for this same problem and I would like to know the faulty part numbers. I have my old brake switch and if it matches the recalled ones I would like to be reimbursed. My son also has a 2009 Optima and is experiencing the same problems.
Second failure of brake switch. Esc off light comes on intermittently while driving. Unsure if brake lights are working, if the esc is working, or if the cruise control will shut off during these episodes. There is a recall on other models and years of kia automobiles but not on this model. It seems it may have same problem.
This kia has a push button start option. The vehicle would not start and the brake lights were not turning on when the brake pedal was depressed. The computer looks for a signal from the brake light switch before it starts the engine. I disconnected and reconnected the brake light switch and the problem was temporarily corrected. Two days later, the vehicle would not start again and the brake lights were not turning on. We used the procedure to bypass the brake signal (hold start button for 12+ seconds) to start the engine. Vehicle was now driving down the road with no brake lights. There was also a warning light illuminated on the instrument cluster indicating an issue with the esc system. Dealership stated they have seen a few cars with this issue.
1st esc off light came on & stayed on, pressing esc button did nothing. Cruise control began not working. Brake lights do not work. Blinkers work, but no brake lights. Fuses & bulbs have been checked and none are blown.
While moving forward at approximately 5mph, brakes were applied to stop vehicle and brake warning light illuminated. So far the dealership has replaced the brake boost pump- 3 times, the brake vacuum pump- 1 time, and the parking brake switch- 1 time. None of these fixes has fixed the problem.
While making a left turn from traffic signal, brake warning light illuminated. Dealership had just replaced brake boost pump because of same problem. Parking brake was not engaged, no other indications were noted. Vehicle being reported to the state under the lemon law.
While traveling in traffic at 40mph the brake warning light illuminated. Parking brake was not engaged and no other indications were noted. Light reset when vehicle was restarted. No stored codes for the fault. Still waiting for Kia Motor company to correct this defect. Dealership does not have an answer to the problem and kia contact on website is inoperable, so unable to contact manufacturer.
While accelerating to 45 mph, brake warning light illuminated. Parking brake was not on. No other indications noted. Dealership was contacted immediately. Dealer suggested that new brake boost pump may be defective and wants to replace it again. Part is on order.
