All brake system failed and check brake system warning came on. Inspected fluid level. Fluid level ok at this time. With vehicle off can hear esc module actuating. I contacted a lawyer who said the manufacturer is responsible for safety defects.

2 Brakes Failed problem of the 2019 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 01/26/2021

The brakes did not engage when applied. The road was dry. Speed was 30 mph or less when I attempted to stop at a light. There were no cars ahead of me, and I had plenty of time and room for a regular steady deceleration. The brakes did not engage. Just before I crossed into the crosswalk the car began to buck and the brake pedal forcibly kicked back exactly four times, and the car finally came to a stop. This happened on a state highway that also serves as a main street running through downtown. I was traveling on a straight section of road. I had the car towed to the dealership. I have owned the car, purchased new, for 19 months. Mileage is 17,325. The dealership can find nothing wrong and says the computer didn't register the event. We assume the brakes failed and antilock brakes engaged in an extrordinary manner. I have no documentation as the car is still in the shop 37 odd days later. They still say they have no idea what malfunctioned.

3 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 01/24/2016

Travelling at approximately 30 mph (had just turned onto road)when engine seemed to accelerate on its own. Pressed brake pedal (hard) and did not slow car at all. Continued to press brake and also pumped but nothing slowed vehicle. Although saw truck well ahead of me stopped, I could do nothing to stop or even slow down. I wrecked into back of truck stopped ahead of me waiting to turn. Approx 8000. 00 damage to my car mostly due to truck having a sizable trailer hitch on back that busted through a lot of front end plastic, cooling system, etc and buckled hood. No injuries but if would have happened at higher speed it would have been tragic. Officer upon arrival also noticed thatbrakes seemed to fail and noted it on his police report. I have since found internet sources indicating that some 2011 kias had in fact has a tsnb issued for unintentional acceleration problems. I never received such a bulletin and have had numerous services performed at kia dealership. Also, have had brakes checked multiple times at dealer and delaer inspection never indicated any problems. I hav ealso found documentation online that says if you have an unintentional accelleration, pressing the brake hard is the first step to do, but once you let off the brake, you totally lose brake pressure. Who possible would know that ? this accident is totally the result of a system failure of the vehicle and I am asking for assistance in persuing my damages as a result of this failure.

5 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

Vehicle in reverse backing up on steep driveway, foot on fuel pedal, car began its automated hill holding function, while in reverse, heard high rpm, transmission was slipping into neutral, car began rolling forward, put foot on brake, brake failed, car accelerated rapidly, and engine died, then hit the wall inside the garage. I estimated, speed at time of impact approximately 10 to 15 mph. Noticed another entry filed similar to this, had same fuel, brake fail symptoms.

6 Brakes Failed problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 12/22/2010

Brakes turned to sponge on at least three separate occasions in fall 2009, again in Feb 2010,summer 2010 and again 12/ 22/ 2010. At first occurrence winter of 2009 I assumed I had hit ice and was unable to brake for that reason. However, every incident after that confirmed that road condition was not a contributing factor. During first event the brakes were not functioning, car continued to move forward at red traffic light. Brake failure recurred twice at 4 way stop and again on residential street as I am preparing to park. Note that these incidents all occurred as I was consciously slowing the vehicle and preparing to come to a full stop. Speed of vehicle at the time of all the above incidents is estimated less than or equal to 15 mph. What we have here is vehicle that randomly will not come to a complete stop although inspection reveals brakes are in good working order and tires are new. Dealer inspected vehicle Feb 12, 2010 after car would not stop at stop sign consequently I was forced to turn the car into snow bank to halt vehicle. Otherwise I would have broadsided oncoming truck in n/s 4 way. Dealer could not find anything and event did not reoccur when dealer test drove vehicle. Last night 12/22/2010 had to throw car into park and turn off engine in mid traffic as other vehicles are braking because of rapid change to slow in 45 mph zone. My car is climbing hill as cars ahead are breaking for stalled, slow traffic. Random problem with brakes occurs more often at low temp although has occurred once in summer. Note temperature at event last night 28f at 6:30 pm. Brake fluid tested good on Feb 12, 2010 at inspection. Brakes were in fine working order, tires new. Computer diagnostic inspection checked out fine. I reported subsequent brake failure events to kia (after Feb 12, 2010) but after calling kia on 12/23/10 I find they did not record said events in kia database although I was assured my phoned in reports in were documented.
