My car loses power when I use the horn. It happens while parked with the engine on and in traffic. Initially, I thought it was faulty electrical problem because there were 3 active recalls needing to be fixed. I recently took my vehicle to a certified kia service center to get the recalls taken care of and additonally, had the a/c compressor, struts, and a belt replaced. I also described the issue of engine power loss when I use the horn with service tech and attempted to demonstrate. However, my car didn't duplicate the issue. I'm not sure if the techs tested it thoroughly during the days it was being serviced. The final detailed bill states that the car wouldn't duplicate the issue. I'm currently satisfied with the fixed recalls, a/c, belt, and other minor repairs. I'm highly concerned and frustrated that I'm still experiencing engine, acceleration, rpm, and a/c failure whenever I need to use my horn. A couple of days ago while in traffic, I had to blow the horn because a distracted driver nearly side swiped me. As a result, my car loss power. I couldn't accelerate and the transmission wouldn't shift. I ended up doing around 30mph until I made it to a safe destination. I called for help, but after I turned the car off and back on, it was as if it never happened. I'm furious about it because the distracted driver proceeded to tailgate and intimidate me out of anger. Lastly, it was not professional or caring to be laughed at when I voiced this problem at the service center. I need help and answers before something more terrible happens. The number of engine and electrical complaints are startling. I'm hoping that my issue will be taken seriously and looked into. I'm not comfortable driving my car.

Kia Optima 2012 with 43000 miles horn doesn't work while steering wheel turned to the right. It works fine while steering straight/left but the moment turned right horn will only click/ no sound. I do have the airbag light on don't know if it is related. Worst case is, I have my state inspection due and with the srs light and no horn, it will definitely fail. I guess that's what I get for owning a kia .

When turning left or right, the steering wheel makes a noise, seems to get stuck. " when stationary or in motion the horn does not work. When in motion the cruise control does not work. When stationary or in motion, the steering wheel heater does not work and the radio volume control does not work. Airbag light is on.
Due to a recall, I had my engine replaced by kia patterson in July of 2017. About a week or so after getting it back, the airbag light came on and the horn does not work. Naturally, I contacted kia patterson regarding the matter and was told that it had nothing to do with the engine replacement. I'm now being told that it may be a defective airbag or clockspring, both of which are expensive repairs. I have found that several kia vehicles have suffered the same fate with no resolution. My car does not fall into the previously recalled models yet it seems to have the same problems. My level of frustration is so high at this point and I don't feel safe driving with these problems. Unfortunately, I will have to do so until I am able to save enough money to have it fixed. Shame on you kia!!!.
The issue began approximately mid-may 17 while my car was in motion on the highway (55mph speed limit, same speed limit for each time I experienced the issues in this summary). I honked my horn and pressed on my brakes (due to another car making an unsafe lane change into my lane). Simultaneously, as I honked the horn the engine light displayed on then went off immediately after I lifted off of the horn. Additionally, the rpm gauge immediately dropped down to zero, the car drastically slowed down, my a/c stopped working as well as the cooling system for my seats. My car had the ability to still accelerate but, it was extremely slow to pick up speed. Furthermore, every time I had to slow down or come to a complete stop my car was extremely slow to pick up speed. Every symptom lasted until I parked my car that day. I returned to my car hours later and turned it on and it was like the car reset itself. The rpm gauge, acceleration and a/c was back to normal. This issue has occurred multiple times and most recently on 9/28/17. This is a link to a video I found that shows similar issues I have been experiencing (https://youtu. Be/qulsdy-umdk).
Engine locked up had a warranty they fixed it and after I got my car back the the horn didn't work or any of my controls on the steering wheel worked I notified them and they did nothing to fix it. I'm not a satisfied customer at all can u guys please help me. I'm a hard working man have a family and just trying to have a car that we can enjoy.

The horn is under powered. It one of those "road runner" "meep-meep" sounding horns and cannot alert other drivers effectively. The 2013 Optima sx vehicle has a regular "american" horrn sound. Why not recall to change the horn type? ## VIN passed ## kia Optima sx 2012 ##.
Purchased my brand new kia Optima in may 2011. From the onset the remote start never worked on the first try, eventually it didn't work at all. In Aug noticed that the horn wasn't sounding right, eventually it didn't work at all. I took the car in for the horn to be repaired and they stated that it was a bad fuse. 1 week later horn was out again. I returned to the dealer who said they would order 2 new horns as they weren't sure what was the cause. Bought the car in to have horns installed they say "we need to order a new module for your car" although the horns were working, I figured the module was the reason the horns went bad in the first place. I call to weeks later, they still haven't received the parts (strange). I mention that now the remote start is completely out they say "we know, that is why we ordered the module" (why wasn't this explained to me??). Oct 2011 I spend yet another sat morning at the dealer. An hour and a half in they say we cant figure this out we need to order the schematics on this car. . . You will need to drop the car off next week. I leave the car for over a week, they call to say they are ordering a whole new remote start system. When I pick up the car the remote start is still working intermittently, the alarm is going off at random and the sunroof will not close. I return the car the following week they say they are not having any problems with the remote start, alarm hasn't sounded and they just needed to replace the fuse for the roof. I am not sure what they did but they did some sort of repair, no prob with either since then. Today Dec 12, 2011 I have called to tell them that the horns are completely out again, "they say bring her in and we will take a look at her". I have no desire to spend a day at kia dealer once a month. In fact, I no longer have a desire for kia period. I am contacting bbb's lemon law assistance today.
Purchase as a new car on June 20,2011 from kia dealership. First problem occurred within first month. The remote start continually failed at starting the vehicle. When pressing the remote start button the car would not start and the car alarm would sound off immediately. Second problem that occur within first month is the gas door on outside would not open when pressing the gas button on the inside of the car. It required you to keep pressing gas button repeatedly before it would open the outside door to pump gas. Third problem that occurred within the third to the fourth month of the purchased vehicle is the sound to the car horn failed. When I went to blow my horn, there was no sound which also lead to no sound on the car to indicate that I had locked the vehicle with the remote car-lock. The lost sound to the horn and to the vehicle has recently failed for a second time after recently being repaired by the dealership.
The contact owns a 2008 kia Optima LS. The contact stated that the horn was inoperable. The sun visors would not remain in the closed, upright position and the driver side child door lock would not unlatch. In addition, the safety lock for the trunk would detach and cause the trunk to occasionally fly open while driving. The contact stated that the vehicle would constantly break down and the dealer would not repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted who sent her to a second dealer for the repairs. The failure mileage was 10,000 and the current mileage was 54,800.
