The wiring harness was replaced in my 2017 kia Optima in 2019 at approximately 45,000 miles. Kia replaced my engine January 2020 because it was consuming large amounts of oil. I just got my car back in January 28, 2021 with a supposedly new engine. On March 3, 2021, my car caught fire while pulling out of my neighborhood actually driving down the street. Smoke and flames were coming out from underneath the hood the of the car. The entire front end of the car burned. Thankfully, the fire department got the fire out and no one was injured.

The wiring in these cars are coated with something that small rodents like to eat they chew through the tape then then wiring. Causing hybrid engine not to work lites come. Luckly no fire yet. Dealer say sorry that will be $ the cars wiring hybrid part . Rodents like to eat it kia has coating on it that attracts them then it costs you thousands of dollars to fix their problem cause it's not covered by them. Luckly the car did not caught on fire yet.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Optima. The contact stated that after turning off and exiting the vehicle, the interior lights remained illuminated. Due the failure, the battery was drained on several occasions requiring a jump start to be able to start-up and drive the vehicle. Additionally, the battery had been replaced twice within two months. The contact had taken the vehicle to vision kia of east rochester (201 e linden Ave, east rochester, NY 14445) where they informed him that the exterior wiring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

The wiring in this vehicle is soy-based and is attractive to rodents. I have experienced rodent damage twice now totaling about $3000 in damages. I have contacted kia and they suggested making a claim on insurance. The first time damage occurred was in 11/2019 we made a claim on insurance. This time we will pay out of pocket because of the fear insurance might drop us for making continued claims. This seems to be a known fact about the soy-based wiring, yet kia is not willing to assist.

Vehicle burns out blinker bulbs and headlights at an extremely accelerated rate: one a month. Additionally, the wiring harness is heated to the point of being melted. This is a fire hazard. I believe this may be a voltage regulation or ground issue.

I thought my key fob stopped working I took it to the dealership had it tested and they said it was fine. They said it had to be the wiring in my car for my alarm system. About 4 months ago I was going to get into my car. I put my key in the dot unlocked it pulled my door open and my car alarm started going off. I tried everything possible to get it to turn off. Finally after about 3 minutes it just stopped. Never happen again until a week ago. Same scenario. Then 2 days ago same scenario. I'm read online it's a common issue people have and I'm wondering if it's related to the car fire thing and wires shorting out.

Right low beam needed constant changing (1 every 4-6 months). Within the last 6 months, I had changed the bulb, 2 weeks later, the low beam light was not working again. Noticed a white film on inside of light assembly. Upon investigation, I discovered the wiring caught fire and melted the connector for the light bulb. I purchased a new assembly, only to have the exact same thing happen. This is a huge safety concern. Firstly, the low beam lighting is absolutely horrible in this car to begin with, now I'm running off of one light. After looking into complaints online, I see this problem is prevalent across the board with this car. Kia is a multi million dollar company, you need to stand behind your product and have the mindset of putting your customers safety as a priority. I work as a firefighter/emt and I'd hate to arrive on scene of someone that was killed due to kia's faulty unsafe product. Especially of one that could be prevented by fixing these problems that you know is a manufacturer defect. Shame on you kia for putting people at risk.

Clockspring failure causes on-steering wheel controls to fail. Kia service did not find any service codes produced when the steering wheel volume control switches, cruise control switches and cellphone switches displayed intermittent functionality. Failure of the switches generally displayed upon initial start of the car after sitting overnight or at the end of a work day. Temperatures were consistently over 100 degrees f. During an approximate 1 hr 15 min surface street and freeway commute (each way),switches would function after a few minutes driving, but then fail again. Correct functionality was inconsistent. And did not persist. Car was taken in several times for these issues but no codes were produced. Service rep suggested that the clockspring may be involved, but recommended only the replacement of the faulty switches. Volume and cruise control switches replaced, but again showed intermittent failures that would not produce codes. Finally, the replacement volume switches and the cellphone switches completely failed; again, no codes were produced. Kia service noted that the clockspring is integral to the correct functioning of the steering wheel airbag system along with all the steering wheel switches. Kia service now confirms that a faulty clockspring shorted out the steering wheel switches; a new clockspring, volume controls and cellphone controls are being installed. Again, prior to the repair, no codes were generated for kia service to observe. Prior to releasing the car, the switches were checked for correct function, but failed. At that point, the clockspring replacement was initiated. Note: kia service also performed the recall work on the acu wiring harness during this service incident.
The contact owns a 2017 kia Optima. While driving approximately 70 mph, the headlights flickered a couple of times and then stopped. The abs, air bag, and traction control warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (mentor kia in mentor, OH) where it was diagnosed that the wiring was faulty. The contact kept the vehicle and provided the contact with a loaner vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000.
Rear passenger side seat belt buckle will not latch/unlatch properly. When buckling, it won't latch without jiggling and reinserting several times. Latch won't always release when unbuckling. Vehicle is stationary when attempting to latch and unlatch. The fog lights do not function at all the antenna wiring is defective. Satalight radio will not pick up unless the brakes are used and then for just a moment the connection is made and the station can be heard although staticky and unclear. But only does it sometimes and when car is driving and the brakes are appiled.
After a battery replacement, the battery sparked when the car first turned on, but the car immediately turned on. From that point forward we had the check engine light on, the brake light on and two other lights on the dash on constantly. We took it in and spent $4000+ on oil changes, front end replacement and several other items that took almost a month and a master mechanic from kia to find out that the problem was a wiring harness issue. We were told that we had been in an accident and that because of that it wasn't going to get replaced under warranty. The car was never in an accident, and the wiring harness still shows four lights on the dash. If a simple battery replacement can cause the wiring harness to fry there must be a problem, and I don't think it's the battery.

While driving, the backup camera came on. All the functions on the stereo were not working. This is the second time where the stereo malfunction. I took it to the dealship and was told there is a recall. When asked if I would be notified, I was told no. To find out about he recall, I had to bring the vehicle in. I check all the online databases, there were no documentation or any information about a recall. I don't think this is fair. What if the electrical wiring caused other issues? also, what breaking slightly on a downhill, the abs locked up on me for a second causing my vehicle to lunge forward. Luckily, there were no cars behind me. Like I said, it was only for a sec but it was still not normal.
Steering is very unstable. Extremely afraid of this car - I feel like I am not in control when driving, I constantly have to fight to stay straight. Veers/pulls left and right as if im bouncing in between the lines on the interstate. My stomach stays in knots in fear I will hit another vehicle, or worse a concrete barrier in the construction on the interstate. It feels as if 3-5 seconds I am not in control, my arms are exhausted by the time I arrive to my work, home, or elsewhere. Have complained several times to kia dealer when having oil changed & I am always told nothing is wrong or cannot duplicate problem. Four mechanics have driven my car elsewhere and agree there is a safety issue and kia should recall and fix before it cost someone/a family their lives. My dash lights also surge to maximum brightness at any random moment while driving - all on their own. I recently started having issues with starting my car, I bought my car in March 2012 and currently have 14k miles (highway for work). Recently, twice my car felt as if it was not going to start, sputtering, smell of exhaust inside car. I also have issues if I am at a red light/stopped and when I accelerate sometimes the car feels as if it dies out for a second - misfiring. I can not pass in traffic out of fear my car will not respond when I try to accelerate. My car constantly will not connect to my phone, or keeps a call display on the radio after the call has ended (freezes) until I restart my car. I feel there is something terribly wrong with the wiring/electrical/steering with my car and several others according to other complaints on here! Toyota recalled only after a death, Hyundai/Nissan/Dodge all just recalled immediately - what about us kia? I have a family in this sedan that is going to end up costing my life or worse, my entire family's lives! please address this problem!!!!! steering is not normal or safe!!!.

While driving my 2002 kia Optima, my stereo, headlights, dashlights would cut out while driving. I took it in to a kia dealership, the instructed me to get a new battery. I did, and that did not fix the problem. On Saturday, January 1rst,2005 I was driving down the freeway doing about 60 mph, my car lost all power and stalled in the middle of the freeway. I could not warn other drivers behind me because my hazard lights would not turn on, I had no electrical power to my car. It almost caused people behind me to slam into me. Since the dealership was closed on Sunday, I took the risk of going to the store, and once again I lost all power to my car hitting a near by garbage can and denting the front left side of my car. I took it into kia of tacoma, they told me to get a tune up. Not liking that answer, I had it towed to kia of puyallup. . They are unable to find the problem and want me to come pick the car up and drive it around again. After researching this on the internet, I found there are many other people that this is happening too, and there has not yet been a recal on this car. This car is a danger to my life, and others around me. Something needs to be done about this right away before it costs somebody their life.
