1 Battery Dead problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/28/2015

Battery dead for three different times in past five days. Worked after jump start (with a stanley 450/900 amp jump start system), but during last two occassions (on 07/27/16 and 07/28/16 it got hot too fast specially when car was stationary (engine running) for few minutes. It went hot to boiling (almost to the point of fire explotion), and evaporating acid from both sides's top (huge amount of white toxic smoke). Definitely the battery is damaged. Dealer is willing to replace; but I believe this is a safety critical issue that should be carefully investigated to find the root cause, which may not be the battery alone or itself, but a more serious and complex electro-mechanical design failure. Stats are backing-up my thoughts: the main topics of complaints for this car (so far) are electrical/battery related. I have a video of the smoke from the battery. I owned several other cars with dead battery issues, but never this kind of scenario where battery is about to explode. (note: my VIN number may not appear in us database because I bought car in puerto rico, manufactured in korea).

2 Battery Dead problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

After parking vehicle, went to exit and could not remove ignition key. Key turned off vehicle but would only go as far accs, which means while motor was not running, power was still on. Made sure dash indicator was in park, yet could not remove key. Spoke to a locksmith and added lube to around ignition key without any results. Left inside semi-heated garage overnight in case of frozen components without results. While dash indicator seemed to show proper gear selections, while in park, key could not removed, steering wheel would not lock, and vehicle could be moved forward and backward by manual pushing, in the meantime it was using up the battery. Kia dealership determined "shifter assembly failure", and after $600+ and 6 days for the special ordered part, vehicle was returned, but the failed part was returned to the supplier for a core charge. So if vehicle was parked in a parking lot and ignition key cannot be removed the car could be stolen, if parked on an incline car could roll away because it's truly not in park, and or your battery is dead. There was prior warning of any failure and owned since new.

3 Battery Dead problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 01/09/2010

I own a 2007 kia Sedona lx. I have had it since Nov if 2009. I m replacing my battery every six month due to the fact that the vehicle has a draw and has had since the day I bought it. . It was under warranty by kia and I have taken it there complaining about this problem. I was told that when they test my charging system it has the normal factory draw. I took it there again and was told it is working fine and not to return. They made me feel crazy. I have been fighting this problem for 4 years. And have been buying batteries every six months. Now that my vehicle is no longer under warranty, kia has magically found a problem with it. Upon fixing the problem, the vehicle still drains the battery dead over a period of 2 days! I have called kia headquarters in irvine California. They haven?t been helpful whatsoever. I have stopped many people that own my year of van and asked is they experience the same problem. I m surprised to find that many of them have complained about replacing batteries very often! so this is a factory issue!.

4 Battery Dead problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 06/01/2007

The junction block (fuse box) located behind the cover near the emergency brake pedal partially burned and melted at two pin connectors. The adjacent wiring harness connector also partially burned and melted. Prior to the failure, the dash indicator for the defroster illuminated and remained illuminated even though the defroster was not turned on. When the car was turned off, the dash indicator for the defroster remained illuminated. The battery was dead the next day. After jump starting the van, it was driven to the local kia dealer where the machanic identified the junction block damage. Kia has proposed to replace the junction block and entire dash wiring harness for $1,934. 19. The cost of the junction block is $19. 95, but the cost of the wiring harness is $1,067. 65. The balance of the proposed cost is labor and taxes. Kia does not provide the harness connector as a separate part. I called the kia help line and provided a verbal report to a customer service agent, and was told that kia can do nothing else to resolve the problem. I located 12 relevant odi complaints for 2003 Sedonas and 2 relevant odi complaints for 2003 Sedona ex models, all resulting in dash fires. I did not search other model years. It may have been my good fortune not to experience a vehicle fire, as well as compelling evidence related to the cause of these other reported fires.
