Right passenger slide door on minivan opened while my son was in the car and would not close. There is a recall on this and extended 15 year warranty but kia wouldn’t honor the electronic controller that burnt out but warranted the motor. Passenger can fall out or something can hurt them. Kia dealer confirmed this and I had to pay a large repair bill for there recall defect. I am afraid to take the car anywhere except local. I feel there recall repair caused this problem. First I took it in for the recall. Next time I used that door it got stuck open. Vehicle is garaged with approximately 30,000 miles on it.

The sliding doors of the van do not stay closed. We could be driving down the road when they open and the chime starts going off. We find this is commonly associated with the scenerios right after the auto-close mechanism closes the door. (this is another issue as it does not reliably close the door. ) to resolve the door suddenly opening situation, we have to stop, put the vehicle in park, and usually end up having to have the driver or front passenger get out of the car, wait for the auto-close system to get close to closing and then slam the back end of the door into place to get it to hold. We did try to take it to the kia dealership in ogden utah but the service manager there said he could not reliably replicate it so could not fix it. Apparently slamming the door is considered a viable alternative to the auto-close mechanism. We were told it is not a defect and that these things happen. It should be noted for other drivers, that the auto-close mechanism does appear to be closed. The door sensor does not chime to give warning that it is not seated all the way. Instead, as mentioned, we will be driving down the road when the door will rattle and open a little ways and the chime immediately starts going off. You will slow down and it the chime will stop, but once you pull over and take a look you will see the back end of the door is open a centimeter or so. Further to this point, if you dont immediately pull over, the door can pop open the rest of the way. What is most concerning is that it can happen anytime. I ahve not found any logical rhyme or reason for the issue. However I have had kids sitting near the door when the door opened on me. Luckily the seatbelts kept them in the car even though we were caught off-guard by the suddeness of the issue.

Our kia Sedona had the cooling fan harness negative cable melt and caused making our engine overheat. When we took our vehicle to get serviced they told us that the cooling fan harness melted and then it's a common problem with kias. They fixed the pigtail cooling fan harness but are cooling fan does not turn on anymore and they said that it is now an electrical issue and this was from a kia dealership in Dodge city kansas. They recently did a recall on sliding doors because they weren't shutting all the way and it worked for exactly one day after the recall and now it's back to not shutting and making a really loud noise when it attempts to shut. When this happens we can't lock our doors because the doors won't lock when doors open and we have to constantly shut off our interior lights so that they don't stay on because the doors don't shut. We've notified the kia dealership that have done our recall on it and told them that it didn't fix it but they refuse to make it right. We only have 106,000 mi I've got a new cooling fan resistor and put it in and a new pigtail harness and put it in but the cooling fan is still not turning on the low speed and the air conditioner doesn't work either. Our engine constantly smells very hot but it doesn't indicate that it's overheating. We haven't had this vehicle for very long and because of all the problems we've had with it are considering on getting another vehicle and we're considering a carnival but are afraid to because of the way kia handles their issues.

Our 2018 kia Sedona sxl caught on fire in the engine compartment while driving. It almost killed my wife (driver) and my 4 year old son. Car had been driven only 2 blocks after picking up my son from daycare. The car started to produce black smoke incessantly from the engine compartment that made visibility almost impossible. Bystandards were waving with their arms up and trying to warn my wife and she managed to stop in a parking lot and run away with my son. Car got very hot. Despite of keeping regular maintenance, car has had a myriad of issues: electrical components going off and not working anymore (cruise control, rear view camera, navigation system), booming sound from air conditioner like an old airplane is inside the cabin. . Etc. There were no warning lights suggesting any problem before car caught on fire. Please help.

Rear tail light housing compartments fill with water causing lights to go out or short. This needs to be turned into a recall for the manufacturer to fix, since there are many other owners of the same vehicle complaining about the same safety issue.

The brake lights went out. The bulbs were replaced. The fuse was replace and there still no lights. The top led brake light works, but lower lights on each side are out. I don't know if the brake switch is the problem when the upper led works. I have researched the issue and discovered that this is a xommon kia issue with many models. When a google search is conducted for "kia no brake lights it comes up with other people that have the same issue with multiple models. ".
I will be driving and my headlight shut off. All of my warning lights come on, I lose all power and everything electrical shuts off. I am unable to use my blinkers, my head lights don't work, my radio doesn't work, and the car once put in park, won't shift. I have taken to 3 mechanics, spent over $800 and no one can figure it out. Kia won't help and claim I need to pay and take it to the dealership. They want $100 just to look at it. I fear for me and my children. This is a serious safety issue. I have seen several complaints online of the same thing. This is an issue with this vehicle and I'm scared I will die driving down the highway when my headlights just shut off.
The rear turn signal fill up with water and burn out the bulbs.
I brought this car (owned by by son and his wife, used by me) in March 2022 re recall sc186 to the kia dealership in berwyn, IL and they said the new part was needed, and they'd call me when it was in for me to return to have it replaced, but they never did call to say the part was in. -- I called various times through August 2022 to check, and they gave me a runaround. I called kia customer service on 8/25, and their records showed that the berwyn kia claimed they did the recall on 04/08/22 -- and they lied - they never had me come in to have the part replaced! and because the recall is listed as done, no other dealership can replace the part! I filed complaint #15017851 with kia customer service - they said they would inform berwyn kia of my complaint, but might or might not get an answer from the dealer. I guess I will return to berwyn kia to confront them on this matter -- but I wonder how often they say they do recall repairs but don't in fact do them!!!! can you do anything to help?? who else should I complaint to about this?.

Fire and smoke appeared from crevice of right side of hood while driving. Temp. Gauge shot up and engine over heated. Shut car off at hotel and restarted kia Sedona next morning to take to a tulsa,ok nearby dealership. It performed weakly with a thumping sound albeit without over heating. Service dept at midtownkia on 4747 s yale; informed me I need an engine replacement costing around $16,000.
I obtained this vehicle from a relative in ohio. They tried twice to have the recall repaired and twice they showed for an appointment to find out parts were not available. I bought and brought the car to florida. I started the same process here with daytona kia {(386) 252-7000}. I have had 2 appointments. The first on 8/31/2021 I cancelled having called the day before to be told the part was not in. As I was not communicated with despite being told I would be called, I initiated another effort in October. After being assured the part was in I made an appointment for November 20, 2021. That Saturday morning I sat in their waiting room for 1 1/2 hours just to be finally told the part was not in and they would inform me when it was. As of today there has been no contact and I wonder if the part for the recall is even available. Thanks for your help and please advise. Kirk conrow.
The sliding doors do not work all of the time I’ve had to climb through the front to the back seat to get my child or pull my child out through the back window. The cigarette lighter/charger port works and then it doesn’t, there are many electrical issues with things functioning properly.

The car odometer was about 120,000 highway miles. After run with the cruise control for about a 386 miles I stop the car in angola service station and been there for about 12 minutes with the car off the car got on fire. The electric system shut down immediately and the hood didn't open at all, rear doors didn't open electrical way just manually and the back door get completely sealed.
Driving down the interstate at 70mph and the vehicle suddenly began to brake and the forward collision warning light illuminated along with the check engine light. The car stopped on the interstate and this happened at 1:15 am and it was in a rural area and it was pitch black outside. Luckily no one plowed into the back of the car. Was able to restart the car and was barely able to get it to the side of the road before it shut down again. 6 miles to the nearest exit attempted to get the car off the highway. After several attempts and turning off every electric accessory and sensor was able to get the car to the exit. Kia toed the car to the nearest dealership the next day. They discovered that the wiring harness was chewed up in several places and caused numerous shorts circuits and malfunction codes. I own several vehicles that are parked in the same area and this is the only one that has chewed up the wiring. My daughter and 2 of the grandchildren were in the car when this happened and they could have been killed if someone had plowed into the back of them at 70+ mph. This is a 2020 kia Sedona and I'm being told that this is not covered under warranty. There is something wrong here seeing how this only happened to this car and not my other cars nor my boat. The car is in the shop and will not be ready for a week or two and this happened more than 350 miles from my house. I have lost the use of this car and kia refused a rental because they said it was not a warranty issue. I know kia is having this same issue with many of their vehicles. Does it take people to die for this to be addressed? I hope not. My family could have easily been killed because of this. Luck is probably the only thing that prevented a tragedy here. The car has not been repaired yet so I don't have any documents to upload yet.

July 2021 family of 6 driving on vacation. 3 hours from home car started losing power. Dash lights were coming on and no lights were on at anytime before this. Vehicle had 68,000 miles at the time. Lost power would not accelerate for several minutes and car started smoking under the hood. Coolant was spraying everywhere. Family stuck on side of highway in middle of pennsylvania and no exit for 15 miles. Had to walk to an unknown home to ask them to fill several bottles of water. Put water in the car. It would run about 5 minutes and overheat again. Finally got to a rest stop. Took to o'reilly auto parts where we had new thermostat, coolant and fluid and other minor parts installed spending about $700. Drove 15 minutes car broke down again overheating. Trucker mechanic stopped to help but no luck. This was on a Sunday where everything was closed. We could not get a ride or a rental. Continued driving about 3 minutes at a time and constantly adding fluids made it to a hotel. Had to store the van for the week at the hotel. They agreed to keep it while we rented a van and went to virginia beach. Van had to be towed home. Took to a garage near home where the mechanic said the heads needed replaced. Replaced head gaskets, head bolts. New thermostat, spark plugs, heli coil, coolant, oil and labor. They gave us a discounted rate of $2087. 00. Drove home worked for few days and needed towed. Broke down again overheating on a main 3 lane busy road near home. This time repair shop said it would need a while new engine. While we paid $700 in parts on way to vacation. Had $1200 in car rental fees. $2100 in head gaskets shop repair fees. $600 in towing fees. And they were wanting $6000 for a new engine. I sat the van in my driveway for months paying the payments and eventually had to voluntarily repo at 70k miles. Car had 1 owner before us and car was regularly serviced. We had free service and oil for the first year we owned. Now being sued for the balance. Help!!!.
I was unaware of these recalls but have had issues with the air bag sensor in the passenger seat, the automatic doors and with the turn signals switching the way they respond.
The contact owns a 2007 kia Sedona. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the esc and abs warning lights illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that on several occasions, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the brake light independently activated while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed stop light switch. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched and discovered NHTSA campaign number: 20v088000 (electrical system, service brakes, hydraulic); however, the recall was not associated with the VIN. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
Frequently, the turn signal will blink on the right when the turn signal switch is set to the left. This is a safety concern for myself and other drivers as they will expect the vehicle to go to the right when it is actually going to the left. I had this repaired at a dealership. This had been an issue for about a year, when I finally had it repaired.
Door grinds and will not shut properly. Gadgets say it’s shut but then once driving it beeps and does not turn off until you stop. So I do not know whether it is actually shut or not. Many forums say this is a known issue with kia cars.
This is unrelated to the safety recall for the fuel rail the electronic door locks fail, (mine are not fully automatic, but when you turn on the key you can hear the safety locks trying to engage before permitting the vehicle to move - they do not work. Worse even with the key, the doors will not consistently lock or unlock. Doors can become locked to the point that you can not manually open them, creating a fire hazard for occupants. Additionally, there is no safety or emergency release on the back hatch. If you are inside when this locking aberration occurs, you must exit via a side (if it happens to be working) or front door (again, if it happens to be working. I fail to understand why this is not a major safety issue and why no recall has been issued. There are literally 1000s of such reports on various car forums. With at least one registered here: cs1603a (https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2016/mc-10090051-5448. Pdf confirmed via independent service center. Records available upon request. No insurance inspection and no warning alerts occur.

When pushing the turn signal down while the vehicle is in motion to go left, it either doesn’t blink or switches to the right blinker. This nearly caused an accident the other day when a car nearly hit the back of my van with my 6 kids in it, because the left blinker wouldn’t come on and then switched to blinking right. There are numerous other reports on here of similar incidents and unfortunately it looks like nothing will be done until it causes a fatality. My car is at the dealership now and I will forward the invoice if they fix it. You can go to the kia forum and find 34 different posts on the same issue.
Break lights & cruze control not working at all. Esc lights stay on driver mirror turn up & down when put vehicle in drive & reverse back hatch - when vehicle is put in drive sensor bell tells me it’s open even after I have shut it ,I have to do it every more than once every time I drive the vehicle. Rear driver side slide door have to open and shut manually.
[xxx] owned a 2008 kia Sedona minivan, VIN #[xxx]. This was his only vehicle at the time. On or about April 26, 2021, [xxx] heard a loud noise coming from the driveway and went outside to investigate. The van was engulfed in flames, mainly in the engine compartment. He attempted to put the fire out himself. His neighbor called the pinellas park fire department who responded and put out the fire. The vehicle was a total loss. The van had been parked for approximately five hours after he used it earlier that day to pick up children from school the spontaneous vehicle fire was a serious safety risk, and he is fortunate to have not lost his home in the fire along with the vehicle. The day before the fire, the abs indicator light on the dash came on. He made an appointment to have the van serviced on April 27, but the fire destroyed the vehicle before it could be looked at. Shortly after this happened, [xxx] learned of manufacturer recall number sc186; NHTSA recall number 20v088. He was never notified by kia north America, before or after the fire which destroyed the vehicle. [xxx] has opened case number [xxx] with and was assured that kia would be providing reimbursement for the kia Sedona vehicle he had to replace. Kia north America requested pictures of the fire damaged vehicle, which he sent to them. He offered to allow kia to inspect the wreckage of the vehicle, but no action was ever taken despite assurances that kia would send a representative to inspect the vehicle. In September 2021, kia north America stopped responding to mr. Brackett, and no longer returns his or my communication. Reported as far back as and paid for repair of both sliding doors staring in 2015-2021 doors at first would not open on button press no matter which button used key fob or inside vehicle had to force pull the handles to open and eventually to close. Just a week ago April 2021 while taking my elderly mother to store while parked after leaving the store, the passenger side sliding door stuck in the open position and no amount of force nor button push would close it. In March of 2021 I received notification from kia of limited warranty extension (wty018) which specifically lists power sliding door lactching for 2011 to 2014 Sedona's. I reported the door not closing at all which happened on a Saturday when parts was likely closing for the day and when I finally got through to them on Monday dropped the car off to my same kia dealership that has done all of the repairs and place of purchase they looked at the vehicle and informed me they were not sure the roller was covered under the warranty and I would be charged $750 and only the the latch and motor of the door was covered (all parts of the same mechanism) I declined the repair being they wanted me to pay rented my own out of pocket rental for a week because I am an essential worker while I contacted kia corporate directly by phone with my issues and how rude they were trying to explain how parts of the door would not be covered the car is undrivable being the door remains open going into week two out of my own pocket I finally got someone from corp to acknowledge something is wrong and was told they would fix it in "good will" four days ago I am still without a car while they wait for part they needed and called back today to corp who called the dealer and somehow part came in "last night" but they can't pick up till Monday to fix again I am without my car and work for the county tax admin office.
I have replaced the headlamp bulbs every 3 months or less, purchasing the brightest bulb, using the recommended gel,. Also have purchased the less expensive ones. . Nothing seems to break this cycle. It is getting quite expensive . . Over $50 for 2 bulbs. Is this normal? the driver's side blows out quicker than the passenger side. Would like some help in this. Thanks.
We purchased this car in Dec 2020, and since that time the rear brake light bulbs have been blowing on a regular basis. Now the headlights blew as well. We took it to the kia dealer who informed us that the bulbs are shorting due to moisture leaking in to the rear sealed beams. There is no crack and no sign of impact. This issue has been found on two other cars that friends of mine have (VIN#'s shown below), and dealer says they are seeing these on a regular basis. This is an extremely dangerous problem, as most drivers don't know that their rear bulbs are not illuminating. This issue must be addressed ASAP. Kndmb5c11h6293784; kndmb5c17g6180615.
Manufacturer recall code sc186 repairs were completed on 7/2/20. Recall was due to fluid leaking from abs into the electrical system and could cause car to catch fire. . On 12/21/20, power steering pump replaced and 4 new tires installed. All service/repair done at dealership. On 1/14/21, driver was on morning commute and when exiting the highway, the engine made clicking noises. A few miles later on local roads, driver approached the slight incline into parking lot at work. At the bottom of the incline, the van completely stopped and stalled out. Driver pushed accelerator, car did not move forward. Driver noticed "steam" coming from under hood. Driver turned off ignition, exited vehicle to call a tow truck. Within 10 minutes, heavy smoke and flames were coming from under the hood. Fire department and police arrived to extinguish the fire. No notable weather events. Insurance company will most likely call a complete loss of vehicle. We maintainied our 2010 kia Sedona very well, with 85,000 miles. Our concern is that after the recall repairs were done, that the vehicle still caught fire.
The sliding doors on both sides of the vehicle appear faulty. They routinely do not function with the button and I am required to manually close them. They also do not automatically stop and have nearly closed on my arm before. They are very glitchy. The drivers sliding door does not properly close all of the way approximately 10-15% of the time.
