On Tuesday June 10, 2025 at approximately 11:43 am, while heading north on 75 at mile marker 148, my 2016 kia Sedona caught fire. I initially became aware of a problem while heading southbound on 75. While listening to an audio book, my wife and I heard a sudden noise which appeared to come from the engine. I (the driver) I noticed that this noise (rattling/ ticking) only occurred when I accelerated. We pulled off at the nearest safe exit (exit 101/102 cordele) at a marathon gas station. I inspected the engine to see if we were low on oil or anti-freeze. I noticed that the oil was low, however we did not have any visible leaks at our home. I added 3 quarts of oil and the vehicle began making a ticking noise. I asked siri to locate the nearest auto repair shop (quality auto repair) which was approximately . 5 miles away from our location. The mechanic on duty informed me that it was the engine and that because I was under 150,000 miles I could take it to a kia dealership to have this replaced because it was a gdi engine. Instead continuing our trip south, we decided to head back toward home to take our van to a kia dealership near our house. Approximately 42 miles into our drive back home the vehicle began to idle and then smoke came from the engine. I pulled over to the side of the road and opened the hood to investigate the potential problem and then suddenly flames came from beneath the van near the engine. I asked my wife and 14 year old daughter to exist rapidly. My wife had no issues, however we couldn't open my daughters door. She was able to successfully climb to the front and exit out of the passenger side safely. Within 10 mins or so, 70-75% of the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Prior to pulling over, none of my indicators were illuminated so there was no warning until the vehicle completely shut down. My insurance company has assessed that this is a total loss. Pics and videos are available upon request.

The last week of February I took my 2020 kia Sedona at 67,500 miles into kia ferguson in tulsa, ok to have them replace my high pressure fuel pump which was covered under an extended warranty. When I received my van back, the battery was dead and the ac wasn't working nor the control knob. (it was stuck) I had to replace my battery, and that Friday kia said they would take a look at it. When I went to pick up my van, they told me it was going to cost $1500 to fix, and that I was responsible. I called kia consumer affairs, and discussed this with them as well. To no avail, I am being held responsible. I took my van somewhere else however was quoted higher. I asked if after they fix it was there a possibility it still might not work and that it could be something else, and the gentleman said yes. I don't want to put all of this money to fix a problem, kia may have inadvertently disconnected something that really just needed to be reconnected. This is a safety issue for me and my children, as I get weak when I am overheated, and it gets entirely too hot in oklahoma during the summers. I didn't have any prior issues with my ac prior to them replacing my high pressure fuel pump.

Intermittent air bag light come and goes window fluid leaking power steering leaking bad reception am radio (lots static).
A few months ago we became aware that our Sedona was burning through coolant and oil very quickly. We began to monitor closely and were adding coolant and oil frequently. We did not see any oil leaking on the engine or driveway. We brought the car into the cherry hill kia service center to get checked. We were aware of a recall involving coolant and oil and thought this could be related. I told the mechanic we were checking the coolant and oil every week because it would run low and the check engine light would come on. We would add both oil and coolant and the check engine light would go out soon after. The kia mechanic told us we needed new radiator hoses and an alternator. I pressed the mechanic because I did not understand how that would affect the oil consumption. We paid for the diagnostic and oil change and took our car to another mechanic and they replaced the entire radiator and alternator. This was in October, 24. In January of 25 we were driving on a 45 mph road with no shoulder when the lights on the dashboard lit up and we began to lose power. The vehicle stopped and we could not even get the hazard lights to function. My children were in the car. The police had to be called to stop traffic so we could safely push the car off the road until it could be towed. The vehicle is currently at burlington kia and we have been informed we need a whole new engine. We have always been diligent about maintaining our cars. I have no doubt that this is the result of poor engineering and design and puts families like ours in danger. Please help us and by holding kia accountable.

I got an oil leak and it was covered but it caused a coolant leak and the dealership wants to charge me for this when it should be covered . Also I went a couple of times for my door coming open while I am driving and they didn’t fix it .
My right side turn signal keeps getting water inside and not working.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the vehicle's engine and electrical system appear to have failed, resulting in a fire originating from the engine compartment. The vehicle is currently at a salvage yard and available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the fire occurred while my wife was picking up our children from school. Fortunately, they were able to exit the vehicle safely, but the incident posed a significant risk to their safety and could have resulted in severe injury or death. The vehicle was completely engulfed in flames and is now unusable. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the specific issue leading to the fire has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. However, the vehicle had been previously serviced by gilman Honda on March 12, 2024, due to a loud grinding noise and issues with the air conditioning, for which I was charged $855. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? the vehicle has not yet been inspected by kia or any other manufacturer representative. I have opened a case with kia, and they are aware of the incident and have expressed interest in inspecting the vehicle. My insurance company has been informed, but they have not inspected the vehicle. The vehicle has not been inspected by the police. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? there were no warning lights or messages indicating a potential problem immediately before the fire. However, the vehicle had been experiencing intermittent grinding noises and air conditioning malfunctions, which were brought to the attention of the service department on March 12, 2024.
Paint is chipping on my white kia.
Car engine overheated without any warning indicating that it was overheating. It just started smoking. Car is available for inspection upon request. Our safety was put at risk because in 95-degree weather, warm air was coming from ac when car sat idle. The root of the problem has not been confirmed by the dealer. Vehicle pictures were sent to insurance. No warning appeared before failure.
While driving from la crosse WI to champlin, mn on 5/12/2024 I noticed car was not responding as much as usual when pressing gas and might have been making some clicking type noises but lots of other noises in and around vehicle could not tell for sure. Then suddenly heard very loud clanking and banging sounds and saw smoke come out of engine, I pulled over. Upon pulling over I discovered a large oil leak under the vehicle and oil pouring out. This happened while on a highway about to merge onto a freeway. I was 34weeks pregnant and had 3 kids in the vehicle. We were barely able to make it to the shoulder before stopping. Cars were not slowing down passing us. Very dangerous situation. If we had not been able to get to the shoulder when we did we would have likely been hit at high speeds. Vehicle was towed to heartland tire inc at 11438 jefferson court, champlin mn 55316. Upon inspection on 5/13/2024 they found a hole (around 3" diameter) in the engine block. We have reached out to kia 5 different times only able to speak to one person who suggested we pay kia to investigate what happened, they have no interest in exploring this issue without charging us. Therefore with a current estimate of $9316. 84 we have made the decision to scrap the vehicle. There were no warning lamps on prior to pulling over. After pulling over the engine, oil and possibly a third lamp were lite up. For about 10 mins we had no power after turning off the vehicle (even to put the windows down, another safety concern) I was able to open the front passenger window until the I could get some power and roll down some windows.
The driver side rear sliding door motor was not functioning properly. However the sliding door was getting locked and unlocked and can function properly manually . I took the vehicle to the kia dealership with this recall and extended warranty. They installed a new motor and that motor was not working properly so they went ahead and installed a module for the sliding door to function properly. Later the door gets jammed and the door is not opening and the panel latch is not releasing the sliding door which only happens after they installed the new motor and module. They are asking to pay out of pocket to get it fixed. My understanding after consulting with people that if some part is under warranty and its not functioning properly than it should be fixed by the company which they are refusing to do. Two concerns here, one is money that they are asking to get it fixed but the second concern is more of an issue that the door gets jammed in case of emergency the family can not use that door to exit the vehicle. The car sliding door was opening and closing, locked and unlocked properly only problem was the motor. I would appreciate if it can be seen.
We noticed coolant leaking. We took it to a dealer and they replaced coolant control assembly/ temperature control piece. Also the o-ring that connecting to the engine was leaking. However, this is the 2nd time we are replacing the piece in 3months (not the o-ring). We did that. And spent $900 on it. As soon as we drove it 11miles home, there was oil and coolant leaking again. Took it right back. And there was fluid in the engine. Guy believes it's the head gasket. Out car isn't running. We don't know if we should replace, or junk it and have a loss of money. We are so frustrated. We have 125,000 miles. There were no warnings, no lights, just us noticing the coolant leaking, and the reservoir being full. We have pictures and have taken it to multiple mechanics and dealers.
The turn signals do not work properly. Has I attempt to turn left my right blinker turns on, otherwise none of the blinkers work and blowing my rear light bulbs. I addressed this to the dealer however any dealer or mechanic wants to charge me to look into this. As I was reviewing my cars history it has been noted as a manufacturing issues and failure to repair this defect. I purchased this kia sadoma without being told this was an issue. It seems that the transmission gear li lage issue was not addressed or repaired on my car either. I was not made aware of this issue either. After a year of ownership I only knew of this after reviewing my car history through a database. Now I am very mad and unhappy with the fact that I am driving a vehicle not working properly and everyone wants to charge me a ton of money knowing this is a manufacturing fault issue.
I just purchased this 2016 kia Sedona and both of the power sliding doors will make a grinding/popping noise when they close and occasionally will not latch completely making it possible for them to come open when the van is moving. Kia is aware of the problem but did not issue a recall instead made it a service bulletin. I was informed that the warranty only went to 60000 miles and my van is at 83000 so I would have to pay for the repair. This is extremely unsafe and should have been recalled immediately not left to a service bulletin.
Unknown the paint is chipping and peeling around the whole vehicle. Auto shop said it shouldn't be doing that and it could be a painting error of the manufacturer.
The slide door of my van (kia Sedona 2017 has been having issues when it is closing it does not close priority , the brakes as well has a strange movement when I release the brake . And it is making the car shake when I drive.
All maintenance performed at same manufacturer authorized dealership. My engine is currently full of sludge due the oil pressure switch under the recall not operating correctly before and after repair the was reported to dealer in October 2023 who engaged the manufacturer who authorized the repairs in may 2024 when vehicle would not hold oil at all. Car has not maintained oil level since repair . It has been in dealers since October 2024 seeking assistance from the manufacturer recall mc-10210267-0001.
Car immobilizer/theft deterrent - the company is telling me that my kia's VIN indicated that it does not have the immobilizer/theft deterrent issue. We drove the car to the dealership with a backup key we made just for unlocking doors. This is a key with no chip or fob and the car starts and ran fine. This seems to be a clear example of how the immobilizer is not working. However, they refuse to say anything other than the VIN is not on the list. How do I get any help with this? thanks rich hamann.

Spontaneously combusted, caught on fire and my family had to evacuate before they burned to death.
While driving down the road, the car started sputtering and smoking. There were no warning lights on the dash, or irregular readings. My son pulled over and flames were coming from underneath the vehicle. Upon immediate inspection, there was an oil trail in the road behind the vehicle and pieces of the rod and oil pan. They said it looked like the engine threw a rod, damaging the oil pan, and causing the fire. We are still awaiting an independent inspection and solution from kia, but they’re taking their time. Thankfully my son was able to exit the vehicle quickly and safely.
Paint peeling off the vehicle from areas under the rear and side windows.
Had anti-theft software installed. Campaign cs2308a by dealership. After install, console buttons for power sliding rear doors don't work. Dealership had vehicle for 5 days and couldn't find fix. Recall campaign is a joke. Causes more problems than fixing issue of thief.

Vehicle was parked in garage and caught on fire. Garage, vehicle, and all contents were a complete loss. Total loss of garage and property excluding the vehicle is around $75,000.
Power doors on both sides of the vehicle do not latch securely. One out of every 25 attempts the door may latch properly. On some occasions you can see from outside of the car that the doors are not completely shut. The warning alarm goes off indicating that the doors are not securely latched. I have brought the vehicle to a local kia dealership which informed me that there was a recall on the latching system. The part #'s outlined in the recall match the defective parts on my vehicle, however the dealership is claiming that its something else and refused to cover the defective latch repairs. The dealer has also not returned any of my phone calls since. This has been going on for nearly a year with no resolution and I am concerned for my passengers safety.
I was shutting the door and my hand was still in the door way. Sensor failed and closed my hand into the door and latched. I had to press the open door button to get it to release my finer. I had to go to er and orthopedic doctor, resulting in a break in two parts of my finger. If it would have been one of my small children instead of me, it would have been much worse. The only issue we have had was a failed motor in the door but it was fixed and inspected months ago by the kia dealer.

Backdoor paint around the rear glass is peeling off. It seems may be an indication of a bigger issue.
The power lock on the sliding door on the driver's side does not latch. In order to fully close the door, you must turn off the power lock for the door. Otherwise, it unlatches and dings the entire time you are driving. The door without the power turned on is very difficult to open and sometimes will not open. This is a safety concern. Other models have been recalled. Why has this one not been recalled?.
In Feb of 2023, my van had no known issues and out of nowhere it started making a terrible noise, every light in the dash came on, my power steering stopped working and then my engine shut off. I had it towed to a mechanic shop, they said it needed an engine. I had it towed to our local kia dealership. They said it did not need an engine, it only needed a timing chain. That was $8000. We decided to get it done. 4 weeks later exactly from when we picked it up, I was on the interstate and the exact thing happened. I had it towed back to our local kia. They stated it now needed an engine and it would be a used engine because they do not manufacture the engine anymore. It had over 60k miles on it and it would be $13k not including shipping or labor. We decided not to do this. After further investigation, this should have been under warranty the entire time and we never should have spent any money on it. This has been a terribly unreliable “family car”. I will never buy a kia again. My family is still suffering from paying $8k+ to have it “fixed”.
I was driving my 2015 kia Sedona and the airbags imploded out of nowhere, I was not hurt thank god. But my front of my car got damaged and so did the air bags and my steering wheel and all that got broken. I am writing to see if I can be reimbursed as I have fix these issues but I believe they hav to do with a recall kia has. I spent a lot of money fixing it so I would like to get reimbured as I paid outa pocket for something that was a recall and a safety problem and could have been avoided. Please help me.
Last Thursday, 5 days into the new year I was coming back from the chiropractor and the grocery store , approximately 15 miles from my home. I got home and parked my van outside (usually park in the garage but would be leaving within the hour so didn't want to open the garage door and let the heat out). I shut the van off and carried groceries inside. Long story short I received a call from my husband that the neighbor called to say there was smoke next to our deck and I looked out the window and my kia was on fire! rear end just engulfed in flames. I have never had any issues with my van ever. She ran great, had maybe 2 dings in her but was not torn up or abused. My husband is a mechanic and changed oil and spark plugs and we treated her good! it was a very sad day. Sorry to ramble on. You may contact me if you have any questions. I do screen calls for #s I don't know so please leave a voice-mail or contact via email with a # and extention if preferred. I attached photos below. Also have a police report for insurance purposes. Thank you for taking time to read this!.
Something came through the front grill and damaged the a/c condenser. Grill is open holes and doesn’t provide enough protection to the condenser and radiator.

The go bad abs wheel speed sensor replacement: replace rear driver wheel speed sensor for abs issue 2. 0 engine light went on then off. Car overheated and blew a head gasket and ruining engine. The engine light was off. There was no warning before this car overheated. And it overheated fast!.
Intermittently not starting. Not cranking. Battery has been checked. Alternator is ok. We've left it with our mechanic for a week and he was unable to replicate the issue. It's happening a couple times a month. We wait about 20 minutes then the kia starts up. Yes the van is available for inspection. My safety was at risk as the van not starting in below freezing temps. No it has not been inspected by manufacturer. No warning lamps before or during issue. Issue has been going on over 3 months.

The sliding doors of the van do not stay closed. We could be driving down the road when they open and the chime starts going off. We find this is commonly associated with the scenerios right after the auto-close mechanism closes the door. (this is another issue as it does not reliably close the door. ) to resolve the door suddenly opening situation, we have to stop, put the vehicle in park, and usually end up having to have the driver or front passenger get out of the car, wait for the auto-close system to get close to closing and then slam the back end of the door into place to get it to hold. We did try to take it to the kia dealership in ogden utah but the service manager there said he could not reliably replicate it so could not fix it. Apparently slamming the door is considered a viable alternative to the auto-close mechanism. We were told it is not a defect and that these things happen. It should be noted for other drivers, that the auto-close mechanism does appear to be closed. The door sensor does not chime to give warning that it is not seated all the way. Instead, as mentioned, we will be driving down the road when the door will rattle and open a little ways and the chime immediately starts going off. You will slow down and it the chime will stop, but once you pull over and take a look you will see the back end of the door is open a centimeter or so. Further to this point, if you dont immediately pull over, the door can pop open the rest of the way. What is most concerning is that it can happen anytime. I ahve not found any logical rhyme or reason for the issue. However I have had kids sitting near the door when the door opened on me. Luckily the seatbelts kept them in the car even though we were caught off-guard by the suddeness of the issue.
