When activating turn signals the headlights go out. This seems to happen only when headlights are set auto. Returning the turn signal stalk back to the neutral position seems to correct this and also moving the switch from auto to on. The headlights go out while driving on city streets and highways, and while stationary on the city streets or in parking lots. Since I am the primary driver I am familiar with the problem but when my wife drives the van I remind her about the problem in case it should happen to her. My daughter will be driving soon and a young driver may not know what to do when the headlights go and they may panic causing a problem. Just tonight I found that when the parking lights were put on the drivers front light flickers and then goes out. I repeated this process for several cycles and it did it every time. This is something new that I was not aware of until tonight.

This is a problem that happens everyday, and at night. Two things, one the turn signals do not engage, you'll push the stalk up/down to indicate a left or right-hand turn, and the external signals do not light. Either turning the steering wheel or pushing the turn signal stalk back to the center position and then pushing the stalk back to the desired left/right indicator. Also at night, the headlights will turn off by themselves. You usuaully have to rapidly work the headlight switch on the end of the turn signal stalk to get them to turn back on. This is highly dangerous at night, and kia refuses to repair the vehicle.
We have had our 2015 kia Sedona minivan for about almost 3 years now. We went in to our local kia dealer since the steering wheel wasn't centering correctly, so they gave us a wheel alignment. Shortly after we realized the alignment did not help and it was the tires with the main problem. The reason I mentioned all of that is because shortly after, our turn signal started acting strangely. Whenever we pushed it in either direction with the automatic headlight setting on, it automatically turned on the parking lights (even in the middle of the night). Sometimes it would not do it when you used the turn signal, but when you turned the steering wheel back around and turned off the turn signal and the parking lights symbol would pop up on the screen. Ever since we got the tires replaced and the wheel alignment, our turn signal seemed to have much less of a duration when taking turns. Right when you turned the steering wheel back to its normal position in the middle of making the turn it starts to shut off. We tried to be more gentle with the turn signal and steering wheel and it improved a little bit, but the parking lights were still popping on once in a while. A few months ago we finally decided to fully shut off the automatic headlights and just do it manually. We feel more secure driving the vehicle with the automatic headlights on for safety reasons but with the whole parking light glitch it doesn't make it any safer. Also today we recently tested the automatic headlights again. We parked it inside the garage and locked it up car. When we went out to throw out the trash, the parking lights were mysteriously on and the automatic switch was on and the van was completely locked and off.

I have a 2016 kia Sedona and sometimes while driving at night either on the freeway or city street my headlights flicker off and on, sometimes they won't turn back on until I turn the lights switch. It started 2 years ago but now it has been happening more frequently. Also, while my van is parked and the engine is off the headlights are turning on by themselves. I keep my switch on auto. I make sure my lights turn off before leaving the van but then I come back and they are on. This is the second time it has done that. I have to carry a battery charger now just in case I won't be able to start my van.
The contact owns a 2007 kia Sedona. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact noticed the headlights began to blink intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. In addition, the brake light warning symbol was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 09v130000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch) but was advised by the manufacturer that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.
