Kia Motor Sedona owners have reported 5 problems related to speed control springs (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Kia Motor Sedona based on all problems reported for the Sedona.
First, the air bag light for driver stays on, then cruise control quit working, now the horn quit working. I took it to a garage and was told it was a faulty clock spring. I looked up and see that other models of kia's have been recalled for faulty clock springs; but not the Sedona. I believe this model should also be recalled as it is a safety hazard not to have a working air bag and horn. I was told by two different garages that it will cost $350 to replace the clock spring. I cannot afford to fix this so I will drive with no horn or air bag. If I should be injured or die in a crash due to either of these items not working I have instructed my wife and children to sue kia for not recalling all the clock springs, when its obvious that more models have problems than what has been recalled.

In spring of 2013, our 2007 kia Sedona ex continued to accelerate after letting off of the pedal. This occurred on a hilly, windy road with wife and three children. Car continued to accelerate through the braking efforts. Car was stopped without incident. Dealer test drove (could not replicate the problem) and ran through diagnostics without yielding any codes. They basically stated it must have been the pedal getting stuck on a floor mat. It was the first time we experienced it, so we thought that might be reasonable. However, the same problem happened again with husband twice while driving the car with two kids under similar road conditions. When put in neutral the rpms reached 6-7000 and maintained it until it fell down by itself. The problem continued while on family vacation, this time on flat roads. It did not matter whether I was starting out of a red light, or simply accelerating between speed limit changes. The pedal was not getting stuck on the floor mat. This must have happened 15 or so times on the 6 hr ride home from vacation. Took it to a different dealer when we got home. They seemed to take it more seriously. . . Got the district service manager involved and I even received a case# and phone calls from kia America, corporate in California. I felt pretty good. They even paid for my rental car. Kia had my car for over 2 weeks at the dealer. Then I got another call from them stating that kia was putting pressure on them to put me back in my car because they wanted to end the rental car contract. This dealer said the same thing as the last one. . . No diagnostic codes, could not replicate the problem, and they ran through the checklist of items that kia makes them go through with this unintended acceleration issue. I now have to go test drive it for them. If I cannot replicate the issue, then I have to take it back unfixed. Ugh. Disgusted. .
I bought the car last year and it worked fine until this spring when it had sudden acceleration in the rear gear, causing a minor accident. I was not sure it was the uncontrolled acceleration but then it had two more cases of sudden forward acceleration that cannot be stopped by stepping on the brakebut can be stopped by shifting the gear to neutral. Then this morning (06/18/2012) when I backed out of the home driveway and put the gear to drive, it suddenly started the acceleration again. This time it wouldn't stop even with the gear quickly shifted to neutral, and kept on accelerating. I managed to steer away from collisions for 4 blocks but ended up hitting a fire hydrant and two sign posts, scrape another car, then finally hit the fence to stop the car. The car is totaled but fortunately nobody was hurt. Obviously this car is a great danger to people. It should be recalled immediately.

When applying the brakes, the accelerator sticks and auto acts as if both pedals are being pressed at same time. This has happened about 20 times since purchasing the auto on 5/31/03. On 2/12/05 I came to a stop and the auto was idling so fast that it was roaring and inching forward when I had my foot on the brake as hard as I could. On 2/11/05 this condition occurred for a short period of time. Car has been idling extremely fast without pressure on the gas pedal. I had the car towed in by kia roadside service but was told that if they could not create the problem they could do nothing about it. What do I have to do, kill myself before they take care of this problem? if I had let off the brake today I could have ended across a street, down a hill, and into the side of a building. Kia did tow my car to the dealership but I'm not satisfied unless they find the problem and fix it since I have complained about this since day one buying the car. I drove it about 3 miles after buying it and had to go thru a red light and around a corner into a main thoroughfare before I got the car stopped. Took it back to the dealer and was told that I was hitting the gas pedal and the accelerator at the same time. Now, 30,000 miles later and 20 incidents later I am still having the same problem. Everytime I have had the car in for other service I have mentioned this problem and been told "bring it in when it is doing it". If I am 40 miles away, this does not work. What do I do????.

I was traveling from one highway onto another. As I was coming off the ramp and accelerating to merge onto the other highway the car started accelerating by itself. It kept getting faster and faster. I tried to tap the pedal thinking it was just stuck ( like older cars did when you started them and they reached ideal idle & temperature) and it increased speed. It reached the maximum speed on the car of 135 mph. I can't remember much else except just trying to figure out how to stay safe and get the car to stop. The engine was screaming and there was a lot of noise coming from everywhere in the car. I tried the brakes but they only smoked and the car didn't seem to slow down much. I got to a portion of the road where there was a straight away and I got onto the shoulder and I put the car in neutral. It took a bit to slow down to a stop and then I shut the car of. I called the 800 number on my door for roadside assistance and told them what happened. They told me to sit tight and they would call me back in 5-7 minutes to tell me who was coming and where the car was going for repair. She never called back. The dealer where I bought the car was the point of service. When I got the car back it was stated on the service invoice that the breather hose had popped off of the valve cover and the bracket bent causing the hose and clamp to bind under accelerator cable and throttle linkage. They replaced the spring clamp with a worm type clamp. They also performed a light cut on the front rotors and deglazed the pads. They gave me the clamp that caused the whole problem. It was not broken it just popped off. I have returned the car because it still is not the same. I feel the car has been compromised and I don't feel safe in it.
