On March 28, 2009, my daughter was a passenger in a 2001 kia Sephia that lost control in the rain doing about 50 mph, went down an embankment & ravine on its side, started to overturn, when it slammed into a tree. The roof on this car then collapsed onto my daughters head causing such severe head trauma and swelling in her brain, along with many many other injuries that she did not survive the crash. Why did this happen? the airbags did not deploy! ! ! how many different areas of the car need to be hit before the airbags deploy! she was wearing her seatbelt. If the airbags had deployed like they should have, she would probably be with me today. She was only 21 years old and had everything to live for. This *#>*^$ car killed my only daughter! ! ! how many deaths have to happen before kia gets the message and does something to prevent it. These cars do not need to be in the u. S. A. Kia has been getting reports since 2001 that the airbags on this car fail to deploy. They are guilty of criminal negligence! ! help!.
My wife owns a 2000 kia Sephia,we were in a head on collision at 40mph and the airbags did not deploy. I was asked to mail pictures of this accident to kia and just received a phone call back saying the impact was too high for airbag deployment, are you kidding me,the whole frontend of the car is totaled and that's the best answer you can give me,OH yeah he said he was sorry.

I was in an accident on the below date at 730pm. There was myself and my daughter in my 2001 kia Sephia and we hit a tree after losing control on icy road. The car was a total loss but yet neither airbag was deployed. I feel that you and other consumers should be aware that there might be a defect in the airbags, considering the vechicle was a total loss and per the owners manual there was no speed limit in which they would deploy. I have pictures showing the total destruction of the vechicle and the proof that the airbags were never deployed. Again I just think considering there commericals pride themselves on the safety of there vechicles this is very disturbing and should be addressed. I would appreciate your time in this matter so that hopefully no one else will be injured. I would appreciate a response from the NHTSA if possible.
I was sitting at a traffic light with my little girl (4 yrs old) sitting in her car seat when all of a sudden we were rear ended by a guy driving an older suburban while he was talking on his cell phone! we were pushed into the Jeep cherokee in front of us. . . . It was estimated the guy in the suburban was traveling around 40 mph or a little more. . . . My car was crushed badly in the front. . . It was all pushed in. . . My air bags did not deploy. . . . Why?.

Was involved in an accident on 3/25/02. A woman hit me in the rear end of my car and my seat released and the back of the seat went completely back. I had to sturggle to sit up after the impact and realized she had pushed me into oncoming traffic. A school bus was coming head on into me. I had to pull myself forward without the back of my seat for support and steer best I could out of the path of the bus. My seat should never have released like it did. My air bag did not deploy. And luckily I was coherant enough to miss getting hit head on and injuring children. The woman who hit me did not see my turn signal and was going too fast for conditions. This could have been an awful accident had I not been able to pull myself upright from the back of my seat falling down. My shoes flew off and I was laying down into the back seat loosing my steering and could not reach the peddles since I was thrown so far back. I did have my seat belt on which I am sure did save me from hitting the windshield. However, it did not work like it should since I was so far back. Had I been hit by the bus a that moment, I might have been seriously injured or killed. Nlm.
While driving at 25 mph vehicle was involved in a head collision. Upon impact, airbags did not deploy.
I was involved in a head on accident at 30 mph, the airbag did not deploy and I was injured.
After the accident occurred insurance failed to notice the steering wheel had been cracked, I have had the car at a body shop and there is some type of confusion with getting a new steering wheel from kia. We are not certain of the exact estimate to this day, nor do we know when we will be getting our car repaired. Because of the airbags failure to deploy injuries did occur which may have been prevented had they deployed . The crash was at 35 mph and was a direct frontal impact. We called the dealership and at their request have given police report and injury reports. The person we are dealing with is amy jones . Today we called her and she said the situation was not life threatening thus the airbags did not deploy. We believe that they should have deployed. Futhermore it appears that the failure is considered normal by kia according to our conversation thus far. The represenative also claims that they did not have a chance to look at the car because we did not report it in time. Well the car is still sitting in the shop over two months later in god knows what condition and they still have not went out to see it. So it appears to us we have no choice accept to take measures to prevent this from happening to someone else or us again. We are writing and requesting a full investigation as to why the airbags did not deploy. ? why the shop is not recieving a steering wheel from kia? personally we do not think the car is safe and request a inspection and investigation as to why all this is happening? why are we being put off ? we do not or will we ever feel safe about driving this car again.
My doughter rear ended another vehicle at 40-45 mph. The dual airbags did not deploy and the seat belts did not lock up, allowing the driver's and a passengers head to hit the windshield. Driver and one passenger sustained a concussion, face lacerations, head neck and back injuries. The driver also received a hand and pelvic injury. The 2nd passenger sustained neck back and leg injuries. The damage to the front was so bad it pushed the dash back. The vehicle was totaled!.
