Brake Disc Pads Problems of Kia Motor Sephia - part 1

Regular driving causing brakes on 2000 kia Sephia to require constant maintenance on the front rotors and pads. At varied intervals, the brakes would begin to start vibrating when applied, especially on the highway at high speeds (60 mph) and going down hills. There has been no accidents but many close calls. This is a very dangerous safety hazard. There is clearly a flaw in the braking system, that kia obviously will not acknowledge. As a matter of fact, I have to replace the rotors this week because they have been shaved down so much. Five times in 2 years, and I won't even drive the car for months at a time. Mostly because of this reason.

Kia sepia 1999 sound coming from rear brakes. Three of the four brake pads had fallen off of the shoes. The pads were in excellent condition but the glue that held them to the shoes had disintegrated.

Consumer took the vehicle to dealer for a brake inspection. The pads were changed. However, the brakes still continue to squeal like metal to metal. The brakes were defective again, and they want consumerto pay the dealer $360. 00. The brakes sounded like metal rubbing metal when applied. Front seat belt was defective an since has been replaced.

Car died on the road for no reason. Then car would not start. Driver verified that gear-shift was locked in "park" position. Just glad this did not happen on a busy highway. This is the 3rd time the car has been in the repair shop due to getting the car into or out of park. Repairs over the past 18 months have been re-lubricated the gear-shift cable (1st repair). Replace the gear-shift cable (2nd repair). The last (3rd) repair was a re-lubrication of the replaced gear-shift cable and re-adjustment of the linkage so car could recognize that it was in park. These required repairs are being blamed on not driving the car enough. Also having trouble with premature warring on the break rotors and pads. Car has just over 22,000 miles on it. Reason is driver (that is not driving enough) is too hard on the breaks. (my other car has 78,000 miles on it. It is now ready for the 1st break job. ) I am also being told that the tires need to be replaced. Again the car has only 22,000 miles on it. I have read reports on the internet that mis-adjustments form the factory can lead to early ware.

Consumer has experienced several problems with 1999 kia Sephia. Nar 07/21/2003. Transmission, rear blinkers, brake pads, fuel pump and valve.

I had a car accident where I rear ended another vehicle because I could not stop. After further investigation on my own, I found there is a class action lawsuit against kia Sephia & sportages for their 1998-2000 models for brake failure. The brakes either completely fail at once or a person is continually replacing brakes/pads, etc. I encourage anyone to file a complaint if they have any similar problems.

Excessive wear of front brake rotors/ pads, and rear drums, pads and rotors had to be replaced on three occasions, and rear drums on two occasions. All replacements were done within eight months or less. But, problem still reoccurring. Dealer/manufacturer were notified, and manufacturer was unwilling to assist in this matter. The vehicles front brake pads and rotors have been replaced due to wear five times with only 13k miles on the vehicle. Nlm.

Faulty brake pads and rotor caused vibration and noise. Nlm.

Brakes are not working properly. When consumer first noticed could hear brakes scraping aganist each other, like metal on metal. Contacted dealer, and dealer changed pads and rotors at consumer's expense.

I have <45000 miles on my car (2000 kia Sephia) and have had to have the front brakes replaced 3x and the back brakes replaced 1x. Also, when I turn on the ac, there is a loud noise from the front of the car. The car hesitates when trying to get up to speed. The car also feels like it is trying to pull something of great weight when driving at 55 mph. The back seatbelts do not always lock. The dealer informed me that the seat belts are only to lock when the brakes are slammed or the vehicle is hit (so how is a child booster seat supposed to stay put when the vehicle is in motion?).

While driving at highway speeds front end and the steering wheel shake out of control, also brake pads and rotors are prematurely wearing. Brakes are soft and at times the vehicle won't stop unless brakes are pushed all the way to the floor.

Brake pads needed to be replaced 3 times. Currently, vehicle has 20,000 miles. Please provide further information.

Because the back brakes are not engaged at all, front brakes pads are completely worn out. Brake pads will have to be replaced. Please provide any further information.

I thought the brakes were going bad in December, they shafed the rotors. In less than three moths they replaced them on March 2, 2000. They have replaced the brake pads three times. They have replaced the exhaust. They have two recalls. They have had to fix my transmission. The pin stripes are now starting to come off. The rubber peice around the back passenger doors are also comming off. ( dot number: 0 tire size: 14 ).

Every 2 months I have to put brake pads on the car. It makes noises and the steering wheel shakes.

Brakes pulsate badly due to faulty front brake pads and rotors. Yh.

When brakes are applied the pedal goes to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has replaced the brake pads. Problem has not yet been resolved.

Vehicle has been in repair shop 5 times for brakes; replaced pads and rotors. Also, at times they had to replace both. Vehicle would make a squealing sound. Consumer would have to increase stopping distances. Vehicle has multiple problems, has never explained why problems keep occurring.

Brakes seem to go out every 3,000 miles. Brakes have a grinding sound and the stopping distance has to be increased. Dealer stated wrong size brakes were made for vehicle and back brakes went out. Vehicle depended on front brakes. Consumer states that now the dealer wants her to pay for the brakes, dealer has replaced brake pads, rotors, and rear drums, pulsation also occurs. Engine light illuminated, dealer stated transmission needed replaced at 30758 miles. Excessive crank in the am, dealer performed wire harness campaign which was also causing lack of power. Squeal in steering, dealer replaced the steering pump and power steering belt.

Vibration when brake apply, road test brake pulsation rotors warped pads worn uneven, replaced pads and rotors clean and lube slides hand torque wheels.

The front rotors warped and the brake pads were worn causing vibration when braking, the brake pedal went to the floor due to faulty rear brake shoes. Nlm.

Front brake rotors and disk brake pads failed. Nlm.

Brake pads wore out every 5000 to 7000 miles. Took to dealer, and they couldn't find problem.

Overdrive light keeps coming on, and the front brake pads had to be replaced.

Vehicle experiences continued premature wear of the rotors and pads, seven replacements within 19,886 miles. Mjs.

When consumerattempts to apply brakes brake pedal will go to the floor, and must be pumped in order to bring vehicle to a stop. Dealership has replaced rotors/ pads, and other components. Defect is still present in vehicle. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

Whenever brakes are applied,they would intermittently grab or start to make a popping noise. Also, sound like metal granding. Dealer notified and replaced pads. Condition still occurs.

Vehicle has been examined by the dealership approximately 9 to 10 times for brake problems, and replacement of the brake pads and rotors. Dealership continues to replace components, but has failed to remedy problem. Consumer replaced last set of brakes around 7-10-01 and now has approximately 375 miles and they are starting to warp again, dealer can not remedy problem.
