1 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2023

I have a 2017 kia Sorento . I bought this vehicle with less than 5000 miles on it. I had the oil changed when it was recommended. Loved the vehicle. Fast forward to about 48,000-50,000 miles. {currently at 62,000 miles} had the required oil change done and they noticed the vehicle was low 2 quarts of oil. Oil consumption continued. Had an oil consumption test done {at approximately 53,000 miles] and determined it as a legit complaint. As I am not the original owner and the vehicle warranty expired at 50,000 a free new engine is not an option. They offered to complete a free combustion flush. I am now waiting for 1000 miles to recheck the oil to see if the flush took care of the problem, but I did check the oil at 100 miles, and it is down 1/2 a quart already. I will be reporting back to the garage if the consumption gets worse or when I hit the 1000 mile recheck mark. I am seriously concerned about this. I paid a lot of money for this vehicle, and it was to be my last car in my retirement years! if the engine fails, seizes or continues to burn excessive oil and I have to pay for a new engine or more repairs I will be devastated as I am on a social security and have a limited incoming. The engine could seize if it burns all the oil when I'm driving and could cause injuries to myself or the public. I know hate this vehicle and wish I never bought it !! I really feel kia should be required to replace this engine with a safe no problems engine!.

2 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2023

My kia has an engine issue that involves oil consupmtion. I get the oil changed every 5,ooo miles and in the last 4 oil changes it has been boted that there was no oil or about 1/2 a quart in the oil pan when draining. This means that my kia in essentialy burning 5 quarts of oil every 5,000 miles, which in my opinion is far more than just a worn engine. However, the vehicle is not leaking any oil, I confirmed this by parking in both my garage and driveway to test for oil leaks and I have looked under the vehicle and had the people doing my oil change check and none of us can find any evidence of a leak. When the engine is running there in no black or white smoke so I am just not sure where the oil is going. I have contacted the kia dealership I bought the vehicle from and they basically told me that is not their problem and that I can pay all this money to have it diagnosed. I know that my kia Sorento is not he only one with this issue, however, kia has stated that even though it is the same issue, since it hasn't become a recall involving my particular VIN it is not thier problem. And it needs to be fixed becasue one of these days the engine is going to sieze while I am on the freeway, or something like that, and potentaly cause a major accident that could result in death. Please look into this for me thank you.

3 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2022

I have two major concerns about my 2017 kia Sorento (2. 2l) oil consumption: the vehicle consumes up to 2-3 quarts of oil within 2-3 months. This is similar to other cases on this site: NHTSA id number: 11493012 NHTSA id number: 11491117 NHTSA id number: 11487580 NHTSA id number: 11486757 NHTSA id number: 11486544 NHTSA id number: 11484553 NHTSA id number: 11483621 NHTSA id number: 11482245 NHTSA id number: 11478518 NHTSA id number: 11478115 engine knock/vibration: now the engine knocks wildly when in idle, and I do not feel safe driving it, and it is the only vehicle I have access to transport my child to their job. My issues are similar to these reports: NHTSA id number: 11491104 NHTSA id number: 11477401 NHTSA id number: 11476366 NHTSA id number: 11473881 NHTSA id number: 11473534 I have reached out to the dealer, in reference to this, and they will not return my calls. When a mechanic reviewed it, they replaced two ignition coils (cylinder1&4) and all of the spark plugs, without any change. This vehicle was purchased in April 2022, and I have nothing but issues with it, and the dealer refuses to take it back or assist me with my concerns. It is very unsafe to drive, but like I shared it is the only vehicle we have. I fear this will not end well. My friend called on my behalf and had this recall request open: 575550.

4 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2021

On some occasions the steering was not smooth, as if it stuck just a little and I would have to lightly jerk it. This was always highway. Then about a week ago my oil light flickered and I mean only a second and then again on the way home. When I checked my oil, there wasn't a drop on the dipstick and it looked to have a little burnt oil on very tip. It was also very hard to get the oil cap on to add oil. I had to add 3 quarts! why did my oil light come on before this and why did it not stay on? my car is a 2017 kia Sorento and has only had maintenance at the dealer where it was bought. I was shocked when I looked online and saw this was an issue for years. Why isnt someone making kia accountable? I cant afford to pay upfront for repairs and when courts decide years later maybe we'll get reimbursed, they don't wait on their payments for the vehicles.

5 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2021

My 2017 kia Sorento has had repeated oil leaks due to multiple oil pressure switch assembly failures. At 27,000 miles my kia experienced a significant oil leak (identified by me due to the strong smell of oil burning coming from the a/c. ) kia replaced the oil pressure switch part #94750-37100 at that time. Again at 60,000 this same part failed (again identified by the strong smell of burning oil coming from the engine) and once again kia replaced the oil pressure switch (part #94750-37100. ) having the same part fail twice in 60,000 and having oil leaks repeatedly is not only a fire hazard (I would point you to a similar problem you forced gm to perform a recall in 2015) but this could severely shorten the life of the car engine as well.

6 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2021

Engine burns up oil very quickly way before 3,000 miles and there are no alerts that the oil is low. Steering gets "stuck" at times for brief amounts of time and needs to be readjusted in the road. This happens on straight highways and in curve. Windshield wiper fluid function does not work.

7 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2020

Over the last several months, my engine had been burning oil excessively. I had to add 5 quarts of oil every 1-2 weeks. 3 weeks ago, while driving on the highway, my car began to slow, the lights on my dash were blinking and the car was not accelerating. When I was in a safe area, I attempted to restart the car and it did not start. Kia diagnosed the car with worn bearing rods. The car is 4 years old and has 136,000 highway miles.

8 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2020

My 2017 kia Sorento has 73,000 miles and before the last oil change I observed the oil light came on. The kia dealer informed me that my engine is burning oil and it was 2 quarts low on oil. I have the 100,000 mile warranty on the SUV. Kia dealer service inform me to comeback after 1,000 miles and they will check it again. The engine should not be burning oil at 73,000 miles. I get my oil change every 3,000 miles.

9 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2020

We change our own oil, and, noticed at approx. 5,000 miles after oil change, oil was down approx. 2. 5-3 quarts. Changed oil again, 1,000 miles later, oil down 1. 5-2 quarts. Took to kia dealer, they changed oil again, started oil consumption test. After this, drove home, went to runsome errands, engine lights starts flashing, couldn't get more than 45-50 mph out of it. Had it towed to kia dealer, they done reprogramming of ecm. Not even 100 miles later, was on highway, dropped to 45 mph again, with semi truck behind us. Was not far from dealer, so, drove it there. Has been there since 3/23/20. Kia allegedly can't get tech there due to pandemic, but, isn't there telecommunications tech work that could be done? as rentals have to be renewed evey 30 days due to insurance regulations, dealer already paid approx. $1300 on first rental vehicle, now in second rental. Which is going to cost more, rental or repairs/replacement? is kia corp. Trying to bankrupt their dealers by doing this practice? this vehicle is under a certified pre-owned warranty, as well as, an extended warranty as well. Dealer also frustrated kia corp. Keeps putting them off as well, with 4 vehicles sitting on their lot, waiting. For tech as well. I just wonder nationwide, how many dealers are having same issues, and how many other owners/vehicles are affected?.

10 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2020

My care burns oil yo almost empty before the 3000 mile oil change.

11 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2019

Feb 07 2020 - mileage: 59,211 - this is my last 'excessive oil consumption' test with dealership. My 2017 kia Sorento was down 1. 7 quarts of oil (more like 2 qts as the engine was hot and the tech agreed, more like 2 qts. ) after 1002 miles, that averages out to about 1 qt oil every 500 miles. The tech said he would submit all testing results to Kia Motors. He also said to check oil every 1000 miles and to add oil if needed, do not let it run out of oil. My next oil change is sch at 61176 miles, that's about 1965 miles, I will probably have to add 3. 93 qts before my sch oil change if still 1 qt. Every 500 miles still applicable. The original dipstick was yellow, they replaced it with an 'orange' one ever since the testing began. They said the original dipstick was not reading correctly and all kias having this 'excessive oil consumption' problem will have dipsticks replaced with the orange ones.

12 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2019

Test 5 - oil consumption - mileage 61,719 (down 1 quart at 1030 miles after Mar 09 2020 work order) we had to remove the oil dipstick seal morning of 4/19/2020, my husband had a medical emergency and I did not want the engine to seize up, catch fire, as the gainesville, GA kia dealership told us it would do if the engine ran out of oil. The dealership does not approve of removing the seal, they take oil consumption 'protocol' over the coronavirus protocol. I did not cancel the oil consumption testing, I will continue to report oil consumption every 1000 miles. Kia motors USA has 4 consecutive tests, all 4 tests prove oil down 1-2 quarts every 1000 miles. This vehicle is garaged, garage is attached to home, if catches fire it could cause injuries or deaths. It's a 2 family duplex. Nhtsa - help, please help !!.

13 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2019

January 17, 2020, I am still under the excessive oil consumption testing. I went to the dealership as they told me to on Dec. 30 2019, I met my 1000 miles, it was down 1 qt. Of oil. The dipstick is 'sealed' to the electric harness, they claim it will not catch on fire. Hopefully it won't. So far with the testing, the oil is down 1 quart every 1000 miles, the engine only holds abt. 5 1/4 quarts of oil. The manufacturer recommends oil change every 7500 miles. The service tech said they are having excessive oil consumption problems with the 2. 0 and 2. 4 engines, I have a 2. 4 engine. This vehicle is scary, I feel unsafe driving it, it may catch on fire. Service tech told me it will take a total of 4 sealed dipstick testing, I have two more to go.

14 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2019

I have been trying to get the kia dealership in gainesville, GA to postpone the oil consumption testing due to the coronavirus concerns my husband and I have. The manager of the dealership said that the oil consumption testing has a protocol, the testing cannot be cancelled. I keep telling everyone, the dealership, Kia Motors, that I did not say to cancel the testing, just to postpone it. The same as the united states supreme court did, they put their work on hold due to concerns of the coronavirus concerns. I cannot check my oil consumption because the oil dipstick is sealed, if I remove it the manager of the dealership said I would void my warranty and it would be my responsibility, my liability if something goes wrong. This dealership put the seal on the dipstick, this dealership needs to remove it. I will continue the testing after the coronavirus concerns are over. The dealership nor Kia Motors will authorize me in writing that it is okay for me to have the seal on the oil dipstick removed and that I will not void my warranty. Nhsta please help me !!.

15 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2019

Test#5 - excessive oil consumption testing. Mileage 61,719 - down 1 quart of oil at 1030 miles (from Mar. 09 2020 work order. ) we had to remove the zip tie morning of 4/19/2020 in order to check oil consumption. My husband had a medical emergency and I did not want to be stranded in case the engine seized up, caught fire, as the dealership service manager told us it will do if no oil in engine. The kia dealership in gainesville, GA does not approve of removing seal, the oil testing has a 'protocol'. The oil testing protocol is more important to them then the coronavirus protocol. I did not cancel my oil consumption testing, I will continue to monitor engine oil every 1000 miles and report oil consumption. Kia motors knows of the four consecutive tests that the dealership did, oil consumption down 1-2 quarts every 1000 miles. This vehicle is garaged, garage attached to home, if vehicle catches fire, there may be serious injuries or deaths. It's a 2 family duplex.

18 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2019

Showing 137 miles to next service and I smelt oil burning so I had my husband check the oil and it had 0 yes 0 oil on the dipstick I had called the dealership earlier this week Tuesday the 26th to be exact and an appointment set for Tuesday April 2 as it was the earliest appointment time to get the oil changed however; after my husband checked and it showed zero oil in vehicle I took it to valvoline express care who noted oil level off dip stick on arrival and paid $66. 48 to have the oil changed I had zero indications that there was no oil in this vehicle I think the only thing that kept it from locking the engine was I changed and flushed the oil and use synthetic oil to which the dealership frowned upon as it is newer car but I prefer to use synthetic oil in all my vehicles for this purpose!! I have no clue how long it was without oil and have never smelt oil burning until last night to which I took it get serviced first thing this morning and paid out of pocket when I have an agreement with the dealership that we paid extra for to have them service the vehicle at no cost when I go!!! we take care of our vehicles if I feel it is too long before kia dealership can service the vehicle I have paid in past and always used the valvoline express care as that is where I take all my other vehicles. Please see the service comments on the attached invoice from today's service. My engine could have damage or even blown from this!!! there was no indication that it was leaking oil on the skid plate so either the dealership did not put any oil in the vehicle at my last oil change or there is something going on with my engine!!.
