1 Driveshaft problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 06/18/2019

Hearing whirring and whining noise from drive shaft on 2011 kia sorrento. We think it could be related to the recall: https://www. Nhtsa. Gov/vehicle/2011/kia/sorento/SUV/4wd#recalls after calling the dealer - our VIN# is not listed with this recall. 2 Driveshaft problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/15/2018

2011 kia Sorento - while driving, the gears in my car stopped working and made a terrible loud noise. After getting vehicle towed, problem was found to be intermediate shaft on passenger side. Below is the detailed recall info-however my VIN does not show this recall. But I think it should. Description of vehicles is mine. This is exactly what happened to sb082b - recall to replace intermediate shaft. Recall: 11v258000 recall date 04/25/2011 component power train:driveline:driveshaft summary kia is recalling certain model year 2011 Sorento 2wd vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and 2. 4l engines manufactured from the start of production through may 22, 2010. The intermediate shaft may suffer from noise and excessive wear due to a misalignment of the intermediate shaft with the right side output gear. Continuing to drive the vehicle in this condition leads to the development of a whirring/whining noise and can eventually cause damage to the automatic transmission. Consequence damage to the transmission may cause loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash. What owners should do dealers will replace the right side output gear and intermediate shaft free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during may 2011. Owners may contact kia at 1-800-333-4542. **I submitted a case to kia #12833214, after 10 days I didn't get a reply so I called them. I spoke to haley and she advised my car was not manufactured in a location that had this issue. I think kia got this wrong. My car obviously had the exact problem they are stating and should have been replaced by kia free of charge. Instead, I had to pay $635 to replace the exact part this recall was on. Kia has refused to reimburse me. When I asked who I could complain to, they said there is no one. So I am reaching out to you. . . . Thanks, evonne (kia owner since Jun 2010).

6 Driveshaft problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/10/2016

Vehicle suddenly lost power while turning out of church parking lot. Applying accel pedal barely powered the vehicle but made metallic grinding noise. Pulled over and put vehicle in park, but park did not stop vehicle from rolling downhill. Parking brake was applied until vehicle could be towed home. On inspection, right drive shaft and transmission output gear were both found to have worn. There was a recall and service had already been performed on the vehicle to prevent this failure (rc079-sorento (xm) intermediate shaft repair (2wd vehicles).

7 Driveshaft problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 11/23/2015

On 11/23/15 I was driving down 85s when I hit something in the road. Had to pull over cause it sounded like the bottom of my car fell out. After waiting 2hrs for help we nticed that the driveshaft (2part shaft) broke off, punctured my gas tank, my cable that runs to my transmission and put a good size hole in the bottom of my back seat. The shop told me that this a reoccuring problem with this type of vehicle. After looking more closely we noticed a lot more damage that was caused by this. My car is still at the shop as of today since we are waiting on insurance. But, this car has given me more trouble than anything in my life! I will never get a kia again! and the biggest problem is kia won't do anything about this! in the past my car started to shake once I got over 30mph, my dash lights and engine lights don't work (and yes we've checked fuses, the shop has looked and we don't know why they don't work. ) guess this is what I get for buying a car from a crook of a used car lot!.

8 Driveshaft problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

We purchased a used 2011 kia Sorento from an individual. The vehicle had roughly 19,000 miles. The car was fine until approximately 35,000 miles. While leaving from a stationary position, on the interstate or just main roads, the transmission started slipping, lurching, and at times would not engage. We took the car to our loacal kia dealer and were told that they could not find anything wrong. At roughly 45,000 we again took it to the dealer and got the same response. At 58,000 the car would hardly drive so we took it back in. The dealer told us that the computer wasn't giving them any codes but could tell there was a problem. After going back and forth, kia replaced the transmission. Now at 78,000 miles, we're having a o take it in for transmission issues and the car is making terrible noises. We took it out o the dealer and were told at first that there was nothing wrong. Later in the afternoon they came back and said our intermediate drive shaft needed to be replaced. Cost $598. After some research, I saw you that there was a recall on my model year cars, but my VIN number did not fall into the recall. How can they tell me that these issues have nothing to do with the recall for the intermediate shaft!?!? these failures fit the recall details exactly. Why weren't the bad shafts caught and replaced when the transmission was replaced? I asked the dealer about the recall and was told my VIN did not fit the recall. I called kia and was told that my VIN has no open recalls. Basically again my "VIN" was not in the recall. All the exact same issues, but the problems have nothing to do with the original 2011 recall. Kia/Hyundai are the only car manufacturers that do not transfer their 100,000 mile 10 year power train warranty to a 2nd owner unless it's purchased through a dealership. It's frustrating that a large car manufacturer will not just do the right thing.

9 Driveshaft problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 kia Sorento. The contact stated that upon switching gears from reverse to drive there was some hesitation from the drive shaft before the vehicle would move forward. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,430. Ad.

10 Driveshaft problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/18/2015

My 2011 Sorento lost all power after a high pitched whirling noise while driving on a 55 mph highway. We had it towed and learned the transmission was gone. Once the vehicle was taken apart, the intermediate drive shaft was excessively worn, warped and obviously in need of repair. Quick research on your site and kia's site showed the recall concerning right sided drive shaft leading to transmission failure if not taken care of and the made on dates which included my car's date (March 16, 2010). My calls to Kia Motors, my local dealer, and the service manager only uncovered that my warranty was no longer valid. I have explained to everyone I am well aware of this but would like an explanation as to why my vehicle with a March 16, 2010, born on date, with excessive wear on the drive shaft that lost power while driving on a 55 mph highway just as the recall states (almost to a t) was not covered. No one and I mean absolutely no one can explain to me why it is not covered.

11 Driveshaft problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/13/2014

I have had nothing but problems with my 2008 kia, first it was the front rotors replaced three times within 3 mos. After multiple diagnoses to figure out the problem. I have had acceleration problems, I just put 800. 00 in new rotors and tires and fuel/air induction services. Then the other day driving 45 mph the vehicle started to shake, making a thud thud thud noise in the front end, felt like I had a flat tire, I pulled over, no flat tires. I started driving again and it happened again, worse than the first time it sounded like a helicopter in my vehicle and it vibrated and while slowly driving it felt like it was gliding. I was afraid the wheels were going to fall off, I took it to the dealer immediately and they called me later with the diagnoses of a carrier bearing coming apart, the carrier bearings are not able to be replaced alone, the whole drive shaft has to be replaced as in this model it is all one piece. To replace the drive shaft it will cost $1100. 00 to replace. I declined the repairs I can not afford that, especially after all the money I have had to invest in this vehicle just to keep it running. I feel kia should stand behind their products, I will never buy another kia. Thank you for your time in this matter.

12 Driveshaft problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/15/2013

Affected part is the right front axle driveshaft. A safety recall notice has been issued for the problem. As a result of this problem, as I was exiting my vehicle (which was turned off and in park), it started rolling down my driveway. The driver's side door was open as I was exiting the vehicle. The vehicle collided with a large bush at the end of the driveway. The point of impact was 09 left t-bone. This resulted in $3510. 21 in repair fees. We incurred an out of pocket cost of $1000 for our deductible. The vehicle was not repaired and ready for pick up until the evening of October 3rd. I called kia to schedule the replacement of the right front axle driveshaft on Friday, October 4th. My complaint about this situation is kia does not have the parts to replace the affected vehicles. I was told it would be on back order for at least two weeks. Kia's customer service has not been as responsive as I would like. I have three small children and do not feel safe driving the vehicle, since I have already had on accident as a result of the affected part. I was told to call them this morning at 7:30 am to arrange to have my vehicle towed to my local dealership. I called, left a voice mail, and my call was not returned in what I think is a timely manner. After 4 hours, I called again. I was told I can only speak with the customer service representative who started the claim. I am currently waiting for him to call me back. This is probably more information than is necessary, so to sum up my complaint: there is a safety issue with this vehicle and an issued recall, but there are no parts to repair it.

14 Driveshaft problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 05/17/2011

Powertrain issue on my kia Sorento lx 2011, 4l, there was a sudden loss of motive power when I was driving the highway with all my family on it. This causes me concern because when I try to accelerate I heard some unpleasant, loud and repetitive clicking noises under my car which eventually went away after a minute. This has happened three times since I bought my car 2 weeks ago. I had to call kia and was advised me to go to any kia authorized dealership within my area to get it fix, but they didn't offered me an car loan option while hypothetical repair takes place. My main concern is about the security of my family and risk of crash. Also I was shocked when kia representative told me my car wasn't listed for a recall. When I have all the fore-mentioned symptoms described on NHTSA campaign id number: 11v258000.

18 Driveshaft problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 11/21/2010

Transmission and driveshaft broke 21 Nov 2010 barely making it across busy intersection. Vehicle is 2011 kia Sorento. Purchased in February 2010 (in texas), kia Sorento broke down out of state (ft. Bragg, nc) thanksgiving week 2010. Kia had vehicle towed to nearest dealer - a+. Kia provided rental immediately - a+. Kia dealership reported transmission and driveshaft would need to be replaced. (vehicle started but would not move and made grinding noise). Kia now states "we do not have a followback policy" meaning I'm supposed to pay for vehicle to be returned from near ft. Bragg nc to where I reside in texas - f. Any one know the law? I have owned 7 kia's including this one, you would think kia would reward such loyalty?.

19 Driveshaft problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/06/2010

In October of 2010, I was driving my 9 month old 2011 kia Sorento. I was stopped at a traffic light and heard a very loud boom sound. I put the car in park. I tried to shift the gear into drive and it made a very loud grinding noise and the car would not move. I had the car towed into kia and the transmission had completely gone including the drive shaft. They had to totally replace the transmission and drive shaft. Today is April 19, 2011 and for the past couple weeks my car has been hesitating like I am running out of gas, at some points the car actually jerks. I am taking the car in to be serviced today.

20 Driveshaft problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/14/2009

The contact owns a 2006 kia Sorento and stated the propeller shaft for the four wheel drive continued to fail on the vehicle. The dealer replaced the front drive shaft and road tested the vehicle. Within the next month, the vehicle was taken back to the shop for the same failure. The front drive shaft was replaced a second time to no avail. The failure persisted an additional two times within four months. While driving, the check engine light illuminated on the warning panel and he could smell burning oil coming from the vehicle. The dealer replaced the front drive shaft again. To date, the vehicle was making a very loud noise, when turning right, the steering wheel would become very hard and a loud noise was coming from the steering wheel. 21 Driveshaft problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 04/02/2009

My car had a horrible noise & I was told that it was the drive shaft. I got a friend to drive it to a kia kendall and they were to warranty the part that was defective. In the process of driving car to dealer it came apart hit the bottom of car deployed air bags, cracked windshield, gas tank also cracked. This was a defective dealer part and was supposed to be warrantied. Now it has been reported to insurance and in the process of fixing this item they broke a plastic hose from the radiator and then clamped it & put a screw in my radiator. They know that this was going to cause a problem & did not even care.

22 Driveshaft problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 02/14/2008

There has been a very hard jerk forward after a stop (or stop and turn I. E. At stop sign) when I start to accelerate gently. This jerk has always happened after a stop within 75 - 150 feet. The speed of the vehicle has always been around 10- 15 mph. Jerk forward seems to be a slam forward of drive shaft after just starting to accelerate. This has occurred about three times a month and usually after car has run about five minutes. I am not a mechanic but this seems to be power train issue with drive shaft, brakes and/ or transmission involved. I will research further with dealer as time permits - they have been made aware of this issue but did not say for sure what was happening as of yet (want longer evaluation to drive vehicle themselves).

23 Driveshaft problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/11/2007

I purchase a 2007 kia Sorento at vandevere kia. It came with the 5-speed auto-matic sportmatic shifting. It bangs into gear, slips into gear and slides into gear. It hardly ever shifts 100%. Plus it pulsates between 40 & 50 miles an hours. Not all the time & not the same way all the time. Also when it's in 5th gear and I move it to the right in the sportamatic position, it drops to 4th gear. I've drove 2 other kia's with that type of shifter and if your in 5th & move it to the right, your in 5th gear. Also there is play either in the transmission or the drive shafts. You can feel it when you go from forward to reverse. Comes into play as a detriment when on icy roads. I traded my beautiful 2004 kia Sorento in for this piece of junk. I've purchased 3 kia's now & found out that customer loyalty doesn't matter to kia. I've been trying to get my car fixed for 6 months now. They know there's a problem & can't figure out how to fix it. I drove another 2007 Sorento in there lot and it does the same thing mine does.

24 Driveshaft problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/13/2007

Car started making a squeaking rubber noise in afternoon then by next early morning car was making a loud squealing noise then a loud thunk and by the time we got it to the kia dealership it was slightly shaking. Was told the whole drive shaft needed to be replaced and it would take 6 days to get the part in! no loaner car available so I'm left with no transportation to and from work!! thank god this is warranty work otherwise I'd be screwed even more!.

25 Driveshaft problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/15/2006

I drive a 2003 kia/sorento/4d. On or about Dec 15 2006 I notice a loud noise an server vibration coming under vehicle. I took SUV to family mechanic. He could not find problem and recommended that I take vehicle to kia dealer. On Dec 27 2006 kia dealer tech initial diag reads 4x4 is staying engaged all the time. Suspected switch failure. Therefore front diff staying engaged all the time. This has caused internal damage to front diff and front propeller shaft. Estimate cost to repair/2,775. 00 I am at a lost cause vehicle is no longer under warranty, but I feel because 4x4 release/engage switch failure that I should not have to endure the financial burden. Repairing this manufactures defect.

26 Driveshaft problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/06/2005

I have consistently had problems with my car from the 1st month of purchase. The major problems have been: check engine light kept coming on and a problem with the drive shaft. The check engine light problem was resolved approximately 2 attempts after it first appeared. It was diagnosed as a problem with the tsp. The problem with the drive shaft has not yet been resolved as it still continue to vibrate at speeds higher than 65 mph. These problems concern me as it may interfere or hinder with my driving abilities and cause an accident.

27 Driveshaft problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/07/2004

I have 3 major failures w/my new kia Sorento '04 since buying it in Dec '03 from peak kia in colo. The 1st failure, the anti lock brake control unit was replaced in Dec '03. The brakes engaged when they shouldn't. I have complained many times about a road vibration at 68-72 mph. Dealer has seen my car 5 times for this problem. The 1st time the dealer said they couldn't find anything wrong, but said they had only driven it to 63 mph. The 2nd time I took it in, problem had been noted in a number of Sorento's nationwide & they were going to need to change the drive shaft. 3rd time for this same problem & upon picking up the car found out that they didn't change the drive shaft, but greased it w/special heavy duty grease &turned it 180 degrees. I asked why hadn't changed drive shaft, & they said the manufacturer's technical service bulletin recommended this procedure 1st. The vibration has slowly returned. I called the dealer & they said they would put me on list to drive car w/regional service mgr. They called & said he was in town, so I went to drive car with local service mgr & regional service mgr. They felt there was nothing highly noticeable about vibration & said it could be the roads. They told me to call back if it got worse. In August '04, were driving & my car began to smoke. A huge trail of smoke coming out from under car. We pulled to the side of the road & called 24hr towing from the dealer. Car towed to osborn kia in colo. & found that the entire rack & pinon steering mechanism & gear box had blown up throwing steering fluid on the engine. So much smoke I thought the car was on fire! what could have happened if our steering would have gone out in a tight turn! the dealer's service mgr said in all of his year's the dealership had never replaced this part. The entire steering system replaced, the car is now vibrating once again at 68-71mph. I am going to contact the dealer but am concerned they will not do anything to fix this.

28 Driveshaft problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/12/2004

Since purchasing new 2004 Sorento in February 2004, have had the vehicle to two different dealers for five attempts to resolve a vibration from unidentified source. The vibration was first experienced at 70 mph. One dealer has replaced the gear cluster in the rear differential, balance and rebalanced tires, replaced rear u-joints, and replaced front drive shaft. This did not correct problem. Second dealer replaced rear drive shaft a second time. Vibration is now worse. It can be felt at 50 mph and 70 mph. Have met with kia factory rep. Kia states they have a technical bulletin on this problem.

29 Driveshaft problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sorento

Vehicle driveshaft installed 180 degrees out (upside down) causing severe vibration. Driveshaft turned 180 degrees. Still has vibration. Dealer not sure of cause. Dt.
