Kia Motor Sorento owners have reported 14 problems related to vehicle shudder (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Kia Motor Sorento based on all problems reported for the Sorento.
The entire vehicle shakes on the transition from 1st to 2nd gear. It previously would only do this once at the beginning of every drive, but now it happens during every acceleration from a stop. In other words, after every stop sign or light, the SUV will kick with a significant jolt as it shifts from 1st up to 2nd gear.

My steering column is off center which makes my car or tires shake unless I go a certain speed. My rear view camera never works, screen goes black, but outline shows. The electrical issues with my headlights, rear, brake and reverse lights are always going out. I have to replace them constantly. I hate going to the carwash because I fear that my lights will go out and I will have to replace the bulbs again & again.

According to the obd code reader: code p0335, $07e8 generic. Crankshaft position sensor a circuit. Vehicle has trouble starting. The tachometer falls to 0 as opposed to sitting at a higher idle, and does not move when pressing foot on gas pedal when stationary or in motion. When in motion, there can be temporary loss of power, the inability to shift gears, and/or the vehicle shakes and rattles. This happens on city streets and highways, when in all types of traffic and when moving at constant speeds. When this situation happens, the car does not shift gears at all and must be restarted. This has caused dangerous lane changing to highway shoulders as well as difficult attempts back onto the roadways during rush hour.

My 2014 kia Sorento is having terrible engine issues. I have had it rebuilt and there are still problems and no one is wanting to help me. I believe the vehicle was sold to me with the knowledge of these problems from the dealership. They just passed on the problem. I purchased this vehicle in July 2017. The vehicle has always run hot and the engine has never sounded good. The car burns oil very fast and the gas mileage is horrible. Now I have no power when I press the gas it has no get up. The car seems like it is going to die. The car also shakes very bad. I have new baby and I am scared to drive my car. My check engine light is flashing. The timing seems off totally. I also think the transmission is slipping. There is oil running down places on and around the engine that should not have oil on them and it is sludge like oil. I cant hardly make it through a turn I have to make sure absolutely no one is around if not I will get hit because the power is gone most of the time. It comes and goes.

Vehicle started grinding with no prior issues at a stop sign. Would not move at all. Towed to mechanic and was told that the intermediate shaft had broken. Found previous recalls for this exact problem on other 2011 kia Sorento 2 wheel drive 4 cylinder models, the exact same make, model, and year as our own. Called kia and was informed that there was indeed a recall, however it was not in effect for my VIN. The same model, year, everything. Just not my VIN. Very expensive repair that will likely require the replacement of the transmission. Kia is aware of a problem with these intermediate shafts and is not properly repairing thousands of vehicles.
Will intermittent turn on during driving and stay on. If you stop and turn off car and then restart may or may not return on. Car as a bit of a shake to it some times. Had cruise control not turn on. Electrical seems wacky in the vehicle. Also had it been stuck in park or times could not move the shifter to park or reverse. Seriously needs to be reviewed. All these issues happen intermittent and never when near the kia dealership. Vehicle 90% of the time has been wonderful, however there are issues that need investigated and corrected for example all the above I have listed.
I was merging onto a highway when all of a sudden I heard a loud thud and my battery light & e brake light came on and I lost power steering. I was able to drive the vehicle to a local mechanic who informed me that the harmonic balancer had fallen off due to the crankshaft bolt sheering off. Once it was fixed by an ase certified mechanic, approximately 8000 miles later I was driving to work and the car started shaking like I was driving on rumble strips. I took it back to a service garage and after replacing the harmonic balancer and crankbolt again they came to the conclusion that the crankshaft was bent. The garage suggested replacing the entire crankshaft and balancer and then having the engine rebalanced or a complete engine replacement both of which are greater than $3500 to repair on a vehicle that's worth about $5500. . It's been approximately $2000 that I've already spent to correct this problem and the problem still exists. It's at a local kia dealership now, where I purchased the vehicle and they told me that it's not fixable and they can only recommend to replace the engine which would cost $6,700 for a used engine with 71,000 miles on it. It seems that this same issue happens on these motors between 60k and 90k miles then from doing some research, it seems after repairs are done the same problem happens approximately 6k-10k miles later. After looking into it, it leads me to believe that the only cause of this problem would be manufacturer defects and faulty parts. This has caused me to be out of a vehicle since mid November of 2012. It's disturbing with how many other complaints I'm reading on this site about the same exact thing!.

On 9-3-12 bought a new 2013 kia Sorento with the base 4 engine. Next day noticed a vibration when idling in drive. The car shakes. Notified dealer immediately. Dealer noticed concern but could not address. No applicable service bulletin. In December dealer notified me of a possible solution. Dealer installed a new tensioner and alternator pulley. Changes did lesson the vibrations. But an unacceptable vibration still exists when idling in drive. The vibration disappears when the transmission is put in n when idling in drive.

Car shakes when braking. Rear brakes pads worn down to 30%. Had rear rotors turned and new pads installed at 37,945 shaking reduced somewhat. At 41,252 had rear brake rotors replaced,(because they where warped) and brake pads replaced, car still shakes. Mechanic states problem is in the drive train which somehow binds-ups when braking and is destroying the rear bakes. Shakes.

Transmission broken for third time. We can now duplicate the problem consistently by parking on an incline, putting the 2011 kia Sorento in drive and attempting to take off, the vehicle grinds and then suddenly accelerates. We are taking vehicle into dealer for the 4th time. The transmission has been replaced once and the vehicle continues to grind and surge forward, once causing wife to nearly jump pedestrian sidewalk with her mother in vehicle.
I bought this 2007 Sorento October 10, 2007. Transmission was messed up from the start. I have posted earlier about my problems (odi id number : 10222227). Some of my problems were fixed. The problem with the up-shifting and down-shifting at the same time were fixed. But I still have to much play in drive-line when shifting from forward to reverse. And that play comes in to effect when other shifts happen. When going down a hill and the engine and transmission catch up with each other, I can feel the ker-klunk or shutter when they do. And also at times I feel the same thing when the car get almost to the top of a hill and it's time for the transmission to up-shift, I feel that same shutter. I took it back to the dealership for those problems a week or so ago and they had my car for 9 days. Now the car does a hard shift into almost every gear. Started with feeling the hard shift into the first 2 gears and now feel it even in 5th gear. These transmission problem have been going on since October 10, 2007. Plus as posted before, the sport-a-matic portion of the transmission is still screwed up. When traveling at 65 miles an hour and moving shifter from left to right into sport-a-matic position, the transmission automatically drops to 4th gear. I've drove 3 other models of there cars and none of them do this. They stay in the gear that they were in on the left side. This type of transmission are real popular now. I've checked with anybody I know with that type of transmission and there's all work properly. Kia tells me since that year, that model does that, that I have to live with it. Also the car has a slight vibration at times at higher speeds.

We purchased this a 2007 kia Sorento for folgers kia in Feb of 2007. After about 4 months we noticed that when accelerating between 35 and 45 miles per hour the car shudder violently and loses power. In my opinion very dangerous. We finally got the car in the shop on Jan 2, 2008 only to be told that kia says their is a software problem and it can't be fixed. Also told it is normal for the Sorento. If normal, why didn't it do it when we first bought it and test drove it? I find their answer unacceptable. In my opinion it is very dangerous and if this problem can't be fixed then it is a lemon. Please assist with how to proceed. I'm getting nowhere with kia's very inadequate service departments.
My 2011 kia Sorento 2. 4 l w/ auto tranny fwd was fixed on recall almost two months ago. After driving 26 days I had bad accident. From my house to work I stopped at mcdonald rest. To buy breakfast. I got on, started my vehicle, step on my brakes to engage in reverse, the vehicle start shaking, reversed, span 360 degrees, hit the railings and ramp of the restaurant and drive forward in the middle of the parking lot. It stop because the two control arm/axles were damaged. I was shaken and it was hard to remember what really happened what I explained was the same as what the witness saw while lining up on the drive thru to order her breakfast. The witness came over and helped me. The damaged was so expensive that I have to fix the damage thru my insurance. I had the vehicle fixed by reliable shop not by kia dealership in order for me to verify if the accident was the cause of the recall repair. I almost forgot that on the early morning before the accident the vehicle reversed from my garage @ unreasonable speed that I have to control by applying the brakes. The vehicle is drivable and I am still waiting for some parts from kia. Do I have to notify kia what happened or wait until the problem happen again. What is your advise. As of now I am driving the vehicle and I have phobia everytime I back up, at least I am aware what happened. Thank you.
In July, 2007, I purchased a 2007 kia Sorento. On my first occasion to drive on the interstate, coming home from work, I encountered a major shudder or jerking when traveling at approximately 35 mph. The interstate was very show traveling due to an accident. When I tried to accelerate, the car shuddered (or jerked) several times extremely hard but then straightened out. The hard shudders occur at approximately 35 to 45 mph. Also, when traveling with the cruise control engaged, if I have to disengage the cruise control due to slowing traffic, I press the middle cruise control button and take over manually. When traffic picks back up, I press the "resume" button, again. . . The shudder. The shudder or jerking always happens upon acceleration. When attempting a hill at 35 to 45 mph, the car loses power all together and really struggles until reaching the top. I had contacted the dealership and taken the Sorento in for repair. The service manager drove the car, did in fact experience the shudder, but was unable to come up with a solution to fix it. He contacted his district manager who said he was working a car with the same problem and was trying to find a "cure. " I have taken my car back to the dealership and even drove with the service manager. He acknowledges the problem but, again, at this time, there is no solution as to how to fix it. I contacted kia headquarters to see if they were working on trying to find a solution to fix the shudder. I was told that this is probably a characteristic of the car and would be considered "normal" performance for the Sorento. I find this totally unacceptable. I had driven a loaner Sorento when mine was in for maintenance and it did not do the shudder. I am very disappointed with my Sorento and am considering trading again.
