The contact owns a 2021 kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost drive power temporarily. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with loss of transmission oil pump pressure. The transmission failed entirely after 3,738 miles, disabling the car. Fortunately, the vehicle was parked when the transmission failed. Loss of power while actively driving could result in serious risk, crashes or death. Upon completion of repairs, kia van nuys self-reported to me that at least 4-5 2021 kia sorrento were currently in for repair with the same issue of transmission failure after only 3,000 - 4,000 miles.
My 2008 kia Sorento is experiencing intermittent transmission lunging. There is only 40,000 miles on this vehicle. The vehicle does this every day, except when I take it into the dealer. Once I do take it in to the dealer, they say that nothing is wrong and that they cannot get the car to do the same thing I do. I believe that no diagnostics were performed, and I know that a proper road test was not performed. I have taken this vehicle in 2 times within the last month and no solution has been determined.

I purchased a brand new 2011 kia Sorento from kia. I was driving on the highway with my family and suddenly I felt like I hit a brick wall and a my Sorento rpm guage jumped to 6000 rpm. I pulled over and looked under the hood for any visual damage which I could not find, I then proceeded to put the car in drive and I noticed the car would not shift from 1st gear. Again I was on the highway with my I year old. I called roadside assistant for the 1st time in my life after owning over 20 new cars. My car was towed and my family was stuck out of town with no vehicle for two days. The dealer looked at my car and said that they could not duplicate the problem. Of course not! I call kia corp and the just took my name and provided me with a case #. What about being strainded without a car for 2 day and luckly I had family near by for a place to stay. I received a call from the dealership informing me that kia had issued a transmission software upgrade, so after the update my car was driving like new again. That's when I noticed about 2 weeks later on my way to work I felt that same feeling like hitting a brick wall. The dealer still has not addressed the concern and their only solution is a software update. This will be my second kia that I have owned and the last!!!! 6yr 100,000warranty is not worth the drama. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Transmission broken for 4th time. Vehicle towed for 4th time. One new transmission installed in Nov 2010. On 04 Aug 2011, while at bank, multiple warning lights came on and vehicle, with my spouse, a us naval veteran and (disabled), when she could not put vehicle in park, neutral, or reverse. As she sat crying for the 4th time the vehicle has let her down, she got the attention of 2 women whom came over and noted the problems and took photos for when the dealership "crown kia" in tyler texas says "we cant duplicate your concern. " we are now writing our second demand letter and will take kia to circuit court to get our money back and get away from this dangerous vehicle that has left my wife stranded for the 4th and last time due to gross neglegence and violation of the magnusson moss waranty act and the state of texas lemon laws. The cruise control has broken 3 times and is still broken. The vehicle has pulled to the right since purchase. The kia Sorento has left my spouse stranded on multiple occasions including an out of state trip to ft. Bragg nc while attempting to visit active duty son home from iraq. And the icing for all potential/future kia owners, this is our 7th kia. Yes, this is how kia rewards customer loyalty.
Driving at about 45 mph, dry, clear conditions. For no apparent reason, heard a loud thud and felt a sharp jarring. There was no collision, nor did I hit anything in the road. Transmission immediately went into safety or "limp" mode. Dealer could not diagnose problem. Vehicle reset when restarted.
In April 2010 the crankshaft pulley bolt and pin sheared off. I lost all power steering while driving 70 on the highway. Towed it to the dealership, had to pay out of pocket to fix the problem. Now in July 2011 the same thing had happened. The pin is sheared allowing the pulley to drop the belt, rendering my car inoperable. Kia dealership says it is still not covered by kia and will cost me again to fix it.

My kia Sorento 2011 manual transmission is jerking while we driving or coming out of a full stop but this is random, shes been at the dealer on 4 ocasions but they can not figure out whats wrong, the computer did not advise of any problem so we continue using the car and make notes of when it happens the dealer told us when it happend more often then take her back, so if anybody has an idea of what it can be we would like to hear from you, thanks.
Purchased a new Sorento lx on 5-2011, 4cyl, fwd, automatic. On three occasions during the first month I owned the vehicle, I have experienced uncommanded downshift from 6th gear to 4th gear at speed. Transmission then locks in 4th gear until shut down and restarted. Very violent event when it occurs, with an instantaneous bang and corresponding immediate loss of speed.
Powertrain issue on my kia Sorento lx 2011, 4l, there was a sudden loss of motive power when I was driving the highway with all my family on it. This causes me concern because when I try to accelerate I heard some unpleasant, loud and repetitive clicking noises under my car which eventually went away after a minute. This has happened three times since I bought my car 2 weeks ago. I had to call kia and was advised me to go to any kia authorized dealership within my area to get it fix, but they didn't offered me an car loan option while hypothetical repair takes place. My main concern is about the security of my family and risk of crash. Also I was shocked when kia representative told me my car wasn't listed for a recall. When I have all the fore-mentioned symptoms described on NHTSA campaign id number: 11v258000.
I was driving 60 mph in clear lane on highway on 04/08/11 when a very loud "bang" was heard in engine, SUV lurched violently and engine whined noticeably. It was immediately noticeable that the engine was losing acceleration power and I pulled over. When stopped, I put SUV into park and noticed it lurched. The vehicle lurched whenever the shifter was moved from p to r to n to d and back. It was readily apparent the vehicle had a transmission problem. 2011 kia Sorento was purchased new, and had 10,000 miles on it at time of occurrence. Vehicle did not shift or drive correctly afterwards.
2011 kia Sorento ex v6 purchased 04-10. Occasional loud noise and jolt forward during start. While driving at low speed sometimes vehicle slows down for second or two and then surges forward.
2nd event, uncommanded downshift from 6th gear to 4th gear at speed. Transmission then locks in 4th gear until shut down and restarted. Very violent event when it occurs, with an instantaneous bang and corresponding immediate loss of speed.
While driving on the interstate at 65 mph, transmission shifted to 4th gear uncommanded from 6th gear. Large bang and sudden deceleration. Think of hitting a foot deep pothole. . Without the pothole. Transmission locked in 4th gear until engine shut off and restarted. Problem has not recurred.
I was driving my 2011 kia Sorento from arkansas to indiana. I stopped off to get gas and felt like someone bumped me in the rear end when I came to a stop. I looked behind me and there was plenty of room between the car behind me and myself. I wasn't sure what it was so I didn't really think too much about it and went on my way. The next time I got off the interstate and stopped, it did it again. I then called the dealership I bought my Sorento from and made an appt to take it in the following day. Needless to say it didn't make it to the next day. As soon as I got off the interstate (thankfully at my exit) the transmission went completely out. I then had to call roadside assistance and they had to tow it to the dealership. The next day I went to the dealership to find out that they were going to have to put a whole new transmission in my vehicle. I was provided a rental car until the service was complete. The thing was I was only in town for a long weekend and had to get back to arkansas. They told me that I could drive the rental car back to arkansas but would have to come get the Sorento when it was ready. (they would not ship the Sorento to me) it did end up working out ok, my mother and father inlaw picked up the Sorento when it was fixed and I drove one of their vehicles down to arkansas. They brought the Sorento down to me on their vacation. I am very disappointed that the transmission went out in my brand new vehicle. I don't think that I will ever feel totally safe driving it again. I'm always going to be wondering what is going to happen next.
I was traveling at approximately 70 mph and my tachometer stopped working and I started losing speed. The car would not shift. I was able to move to manual shifting and resume my speed. But the tachometer continued to read "0".
2011 kia Sorento. Push button start. Intermittently you hear a thud and sometimes the entire vehicle jerks forward. Also have noticed when I turn vehicle off a shuttering noise coming from the right rear side car. Very disappointed with mileage on this vehicle also. Had to dealership twice and they say they can not duplicate my complaint.
Transmission - vehicle turns on, when placed in reverse a loud/hard jolt occurs. When placed in drive, vehicle will hardly move without pressing all the way down on the gas pedal. Engine roars and hardly moves forward. Happened on two occasions in the last few months. Was recently fixed two months ago but happened again.
I have had my kia Sorento for 10 months. It has been back to the dealership 4 times for transmission issues. On the third time that it went back, they decided to put a new transmission in it. It worked for three months. I was driving home from ky when the transmission started leaking. This was suppose to be a new transmission. Are there other issues with other cars???.
Transmission on my 2011 kia Sorento went when I was exiting a roadway. Car just wouldn't move forward anymore. Engine was still running.
Own 2011 Sorento ex v6 - similar complaint as another when using pushbutton start every 4 or 5 starts a loud clunking and engine torque or transmission is experienced. Also noted a continuing oscillating "hum" coming from the rear wheel area - very noticeable on somewhat smoother roads. Not due to roads since I have tried other roads to rule out a particular road. It's from the car and not the road. It never goes away.
2005 Sorento love the car, but on take off around 45 to 50 mph if I'll jerk and lose speed but if I keep my foot it does happen as of yet, it just holds there end much give lots of gas to get it going. That's the only problem I have. Please help. All the time!.

The contact owns a 2008 kia sorrento. The vehicle exhibited abnormal hesitation when accelerating from a complete stop and would only accelerate at a very low speed. After shutting the vehicle off and allowing it to sit for a few hours, the vehicle would operate as normal. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where upgrades were made to the computer system. The failure since recurred approximately 3 times. The vehicle was not taken back to the dealer for further repairs or diagnosis. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 25,000.
2009 kia Sorento with transmission/driveline issues. Dealership has had numerous attempts to correct and states "normal for this vehicle. " vehicle clunks, pops, jolts, and jerks when in operation regardless of time of day, temp, etc. Started in may 2010 and continues presently which is June 2011.

Earlier recall defective!!! 2005 kia Sorento v6, had a recall of breakage of crankshaft accessory pulley bolt. New bolt from the recall has also failed. My crankshaft pulley and bolt fell out on the highway while in operation. Kia service refuses to cover the new bolt on warranty. Had bolt tightened at local shop and it failed again in 3 days!!! kia is failing to fix this problem in which will result in fatality accidents.
My 2007 kia Sorento was involved in two accidents in 2009-10. Both were as a result of a faulty 4-wheel drive mechanism. When we purchased the car in 2007, we reported to the dealership that when the car was in 4-wheel drive and stopped to turn, it made a jerking movement that was dangerous. We were told it operated as designed. On February 21, 2010, I was turning into my garage in central oregon on ice, the car was in 4-wheel drive and it made a series of lurching movements which caused the car to slide into the garage wall. I still have the dent in the passenger door from that incident. On October 27, 2009 on my way to work, I noticed the temperature was 31 degrees, and put my ("on the fly" 4-wheel drive) car into 4-wheel drive. I immediately went into a 360 spin on a highway. I was driving approximately 40 miles an hour. All four tires were flat when I landed in the dirt on the side of the road. The dealership told me this car isn't an "on the fly" 4-wheel drive even though the manual says it is. I reported both of these accidents to kia safety headquarters. They tell me the car operates as designed, and therefore are not concerned. I am very concerned that someone will die in one of these 2007 kia's when using 4-wheel drive. I know that kia redesigned the Sorento in 2008 to be all wheel, and it doesn't have this design defect . However, what about all of us who drive in cold, icy weather many days of the year and need our 4-wheel drive? do we just hope the jerking motion when we are stopped and turning will not cause us to slide into something? do we stop every time we need to put our "on the fly" four wheel drive in play? kia needs to fix our cars so they are safe for the entire 100,000 mile warranty period!.

I have a 2005 kia Sorento that started to shut off while driving on Jan 3rd 2009. Since then it has happened 4 times. It is random and I am currently in court with kia through the PA lemon law. I wanted to file this complaint so it is on record.
I have a two wheel drive 2007 kia Sorento. When I drive between 35 and 50 mph the car begins to jerk, sometimes violently. I have taken it twice to the dealer to have it looked at. The dealer has contacted kia engineers who say that the jerking is within acceptable parameters and nothing will be done to fix the problem. They have described the problem as being called a fish bite. The invoice for service states that "this is normal tcc lock up at lower speeds low rpm in lockup. ".
I bought a 2007 kia Sorento in October, 2007. The car only has 3,000 miles and has a horrible shifting problem that I am told all 2007 Sorentos have. When the car is going between 40 and 50, it sounds like and shudders like a 10 year old beat up car. It is like it won't shift gears. The motor is extremely louder than the 2003 kia Sorento I owned (wish I had it back). I am terribly unhappy with the transmission and shifting problems this car has.
Transmission overheated causing overflow of atf onto exhaust manifold igniting a fire.

I purchased a 2004 kia Sorento two years ago. It was not long before I began to experience numerous problems with my vehicle. Tail lights/brake lights burning out frequently which is a major safety issue since I deliver rural usda mail. Now my transmission is broken!! kia-duluth asked if I had had the transmission flushed at the specified mileage and that they will need verification of this. (I knew immediately their objective was to not honor their warranty (10 years/100,000 mile warranty if I had not flushed the transmission). I faxed them the receipt indicating the transmission had been flushed. I contacted kia-duluth the following day because I had not heard from them. He said he had not heard back from kia yet to authorize the repair. This vehicle has caused me so much lost work time, stress and has been emotionally draining for the past two years. Kia's deceptive advertising - I believed that since kia was offering a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty, their vehicle must be really good. Boy was I wrong! kia is building vehicles with defective parts and materials and has set-up their warranty plan to be able to void them from having to honor their warranty plan and having any responsibility. For further complaints on kia vehicles, please contact the better business bureau and attorney general offices across the country and you will find numerous complaints. . Read more...
I purchased a 2007 kia Sorento on 1/6/07 from chris leith kia in wake forest, nc. Not long after I bought it, I noticed that it frequently jerked when accelerating at higher rates of speed. On 1/11/07, I took the car back to the dealer and complained of the problem. At that time they told me it was the electronic throttle body which was self adjusting ,and would fix itself as I drove it. The vehicle continued to struggle, so I took it back to kia on 3/5/07. They had the vehicle for 3 days. After correspondence with kia, I was told to come pick up the vehicle. They told me that kia was aware of the problem and that they were working on a solution. It is believed to be a software issue. As of today, 4/5/07, I still have no solution to my problem. I have been in touch with the dealer, and have been told that they are still working on a solution. I am very frustrated! a brand new vehicle should not run like this!!!.
Comments: I would like to inform you of what I think is a potential safety hazard. Several weeks ago my wife and I were returning from a vacation in our car and it caught fire. Luckily there were no injuries or serious damage. At the end of this letter will be all the particulars. We were coming from santa cruz on highway 1, in California and at what is called the summit, of I started seeing smoke in back of our vehicle. We stopped, turned off the car ,opened the hood and there was a small fire down on the driver side near the exhaust manifold. I closed the hood and tried to locate a fire extinguisher. The fire extinguished itself and we had the car towed to the dealership. After a day of testing the only thing they found was that the transmission was slightly overfilled, which was my error. While I realize that can cause the problem here is my concern. The technician who worked on my car said that transmissions are designed to blow out or through overflow the transmission filler tube. He also showed me that on top of the dipstick was slot which would allow the fluid to escape. However it is located right over the exhaust manifold. It would seem that it should be located where the fluid would not come in contact with such hot engine parts. I am not sure if this affects other vehicles but it does concern me. My vehicle is 2004 kia Sorento 6 cyc, automatic we were not towing anything nor where we loaded down. I thank you for you time. Steve elijah 225 merrill Ave fremont, CA 945 selijah@sbcglobal. While driving my 2005 kia Sorento it suddenly looses power and will not surpass 30 mph. When I change from automatic transmission to this new standard shift there is no response. This has occurred now 4 times the past 2 months. The dealer checked the codes and nothing shows. I must stop and shut the vehicle off, restart and all systems return to normal. My dealer says that I must bring this to them when it is in this state. This request is impossible to do.
