Headlights completely turn off on their own at random times at night. Has happened twice when entering into a curve at night. I have to frantically turn the knob off and then back on to make them function again. Extremely dangerous! took into bulldog kia athens GA. They "verified concern, found open short in multifunction switch" kia will not cover the cost of repair. Total needed to repair $495. 78.

When the car's headlight switch is set to auto, the head and taillights will turn on and off at random, regardless of lighting conditions. The lights randomly turn on while the car is off and stationary and has resulted in a drained battery on three occasions. . The lights turn on and then back off while in motion during daytime driving (as indicated by the dashboard indicator). When on and while in motion at night, the lights turn off, resulting in zero visibility while driving.

My 2017 kia Sorento headlights shut off for no reason when I am driving. When they are in auto mode they will turn off followed by a warning on my screen saying they have switched from auto to manual. I have to turn the knob to off then back on. They also shut off in manual mode. This is extremely dangerous and frightening, especially with my toddler in the back seat. I am told a TSB has been started and possibly a class action lawsuit. When will kia do a recall? one dealership told me they have no idea what it could be because it hasnt happened to them, another dealership said they have never heard of it but are willing to take a look to see if they can fix this but I will have to pay. This is not right since this is a kia defect with multiple complaints.
Front headlights periodically turns off without warning, goes back on as soon as you touch the light switch. Safety hazard when driving at night! happened several times! the vehicle was in driving motion both on a freeway and also on a highway and street!.

7/23/20 20:30, while driving straight down a city street, just began driving from stopping at a light, and the headlights turned off by themselves. After a few seconds, my wife rotated the lights switch to off then back to auto and they came back on. This is the third time this has occurred since we bought the vehicle in August of 2019.
I have owned the car for two years on one occasion while driving the headlights shut off I turned switch to off then back to auto and the lights came on. On two occasions the lights were on after the car was shut off, parked and locked pressing the remote lock button shut off the lights. On one occasion the parking lights turned on at 2am (neighbor's camera picked it up) pressing remote lock button shut off the lights another occasion I tried starting the car in the morning and the battery was dead, I suspect that the lights turned on at night and didn't shut off.
I've replaced the driver side low beam headlight 4 times in 2 months and the driver side front turn signal twice during the same span. There seems to be a short as the headlight will work until I use the turn signal while the headlights are on. The headlight burns out and then the turn signal only flashes when the switch for the headlights is off.

Headlights turn off while driving on highway and city streets. Service on 3-23-20 and could duplicate problem. On 9-25-20 driving and dash board indicator switching from flashers on, headlights going from auto set, to off, to running lights, and door locks locking and unlocking. Scheduled service for 10-20-20, but was told if they can not duplicate problem may not be able to repair.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 kia Sorento. The contact stated that the passenger's side headlamp suddenly failed to illuminate or was very dim. The bulb was replaced by an independent mechanic however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the driver's side headlamp experienced the failure intermittently. The contact became aware online that the switch used to communicate with the headlamps failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure 76,000.
Headlights turned off while I was driving on the freeway twice this week. The first time it happened I got them back on by switching them off then back on. The second time they went off for a few seconds and came back on without me doing anything.
Discrepancies: 1. [high danger to safety that could result in vehicle damage, personal injury, or loss of life] headlights shut off randomly while vehicle is driving or stationary and can not be recovered via manually switching through "auto: off"; lights may recover randomly while left in "auto" position; high beams still work while this happens (this has happened on multiple occasions) 2. Exterior lighting has turned on randomly in the middle of the night on 2 occasions, killing the battery by morning.
While driving, the vehicle's headlights turn off without warning. This has happened on highways and on surface streets. In all cases the light control switch was on "auto. " at least twice, the lights went off after using the turn signal to indicate a lane change. At least once, the dashboard display came up after several seconds, as if the driver was manually changing the lights from auto to on or off, but the driver was not touching the controls. In all cases the headlights came back on after several seconds. Light indicators have come on during daylight hours as well, making it appear the issue happens during day and night. When returning to the vehicle after it was driven, then parked for an hour or more, we have also found the headlights and taillights all on. The lights would not go off without manually turning them off and then back to auto. The lights have also all come on in that same manner, when the car was parked and someone leaned up against it.
Since August 2019, I have been experiencing intermittent headlights failure while driving and the headlights was set on auto. The headlights would shut off for 5-10 seconds unexpectedly and will turn on again. When it happens again this past Saturday (11/7) , I noticed when the headlights went off, only the headlights symbol was lighted on the dash. Normally, when the headlights were switched on auto both the front and rear taillights and headlights symbol would be lighted on the dash. I have spoken to fairfax kia service technician about this problem but since the problem could not be reproduced, he was unable to resolve the issue. In reviewing your site, it appears other owners of 2017 kia Sorento have had similar issues with the headlights shutting off while using the auto headlights feature. I feel this is a serious safety concern, therefore, I am hoping your agency will initiate an investigation on the matter to resolve the issue before someone gets seriously injured or die as a result of this issue.
Headlights will not come on. One will flicker on each time the headlight switch is turned on but will then slowly go out. No headlights is a safety issue! the key fob also has intermentent disfunction like the battery is going out but it is new battery. I have read other complaints with same issues. Headlight issue with bad connectors for this make model and year have been recalled but for some reason doesn't include my cars VIN. Needs to be further investigated to include more VIN.
First warning sign was the headlight, low beams, and all interior electronics would shut completely off for about 2 seconds randomly when the turn signal was used. Next the driver side headlight, low beam, went out when replacing the bulb the replacement bulb worked until the bulb was placed in the socket. After cleaning the sockets to create a better connection, still nothing worked. I switched bulbs from driver to passenger to see if the bulb would get a good connection on the passenger side and now neither low beam headlight works. This is a light switch issue that was recalled for 2012-16 kia Sorento's but I'm having the same issue in a 2011.
Headlights cutting off randomly while driving at night . Took to kia dealer and they said it was a faulty light switch located in the steering column . It was replaced . One week later , it happened again while wife was driving , the local dealership who did the original repair could not get it in to look at for 2 weeks . This morning wife was driving to work in the dark , when headlights went out again , this time the dash lights also went out . This is a very dangerous situation that needs to be corrected ASAP.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Sorento. While driving approximately 60 mph, the passenger side low beam headlight failed. The contact had to switch to the high beams in order to get home. The same failure occurred three other times on the same side of the vehicle. The contact drove the vehicle to the dealer where it was determined that the manufacturer utilized the wrong size wire. The vehicle has been at the dealer three times for the same failure this month and the harness had to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 56,500.

My 2011 kia sorrento parking lights stopped working. Mechanic stated that wire harness had to be replaced from turn signal switch/inside steering column and down through to rear lights. He stated that the area was packed with dirt and debris even into the headlight assemble. Mechanic couldn't figure out why the area was so packed with dirt and water. Total repair cost $398. 00.
Original owner '11 Sorento 4cyl, awd w/tow package & approx 88k miles. Problem 1st noticed about 2 mos ago when seat belt light began flashing with audible clicking coming from relay behind dash. It was daytime when this happened 1st few times & I could not duplicate problem. This issue seemed to happen after starting car & would go away after a few moments of driving. Releasing & re-connecting seat belt had no effect. The 1st time it happened @ night I realized that the headlights & dash lights would flash on & off also. Still could not duplicate problem, but being a mechanic I watched for it to happen and tried different things to see if they had any effect on the issue. Always would begin after initially starting car, but not do it most times. Then 3 evenings ago, I found it happening every time I would start the car & would even do it afterwards driving down the road. I was 70 miles from home & tried to get back. It didn't matter whether the headlight switch was on, off or auto, it would still flash all lights & seatbelt light w/clicking from relay. On the way home, while driving a rural road, the lights again started blinking on & off causing me to hit a metal pole a drainage ditch thru farmer's fence into his field. Accident pushed metal bumper (behind bumper cover) back about 12", tore the entire front end &lights from car & bent hood back 1 1/2 feet and buckled it upward - all of this without ever deploying the airbag. These problems are prevalent in this car as I have read, but I now have a vehicle which despite it's damage will now duplicate the lights going on & off every time the car is turned on. Have contacted kia corp in hopes that they will want to use my car to get to the cause of this issue & finally correct it. As a mechanic I very well understand the need to be able to duplicate problem to find cause . . . . . Kia now has no excuse.
The contact owns a 2016 kia Sorento. While driving 65 mph with the high beams activated, the contact attempted to switch to the low beams and the headlights failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,604.
While driving at night the headlights will go off then come back on after being off for approx 2 seconds. It also occurs sometimes when changing lanes and using the turn signals. I feel that it may be a defect in the turn signal headlight assembly switch on the steering column.
On 7/30/14 I noticed my dashboard lights were not working. The morning of 7/31/14 the lights still were not working so I checked the fuse boxes. I found a blown fuse in the fuse box under the hood and replaced it. The dashboard lights still would not work. The evening of 7/31/14 I again checked the fuses and found the fuse I had just replaced in the morning was again blown. I replaced the fuse and had my husband stand at the front of the vehicle while I turned the ignition and headlight switch on. Immediately upon turning on the headlight switch we heard a "pop," checked the fuse and it had once again blown. We tried a third fuse and it blew as well as soon as I turned on the headlight switch. Three fuses in one day and still no answer on how to get my dashboard lights to work.

Note: purchased vehicle used approximately 1 month and 500 miles before problems initially started. 1) headlight bulbs blow out repeatedly either during driving or an onset of driving (come on momentarily just before blowing). Have had to replace low beam headlight bulbs on 5 occasions in the first year of ownership. Research on the matter indicates this is a wide spread issue among kia Sorento owners. Observed on several occasions that the bulbs blew out after using the key fob. Stopped using the key fob and the bulb blowouts stopped, but issue #2 continues (see next incident description). 2) headlights low beams stop working intermittently. Headlight low beams stop working during driving at night or will not work from onset of driving. Incident occurs at least monthly driving approximately 600 miles per month. Low beams start working again on intermittent basis. Observed that if the headlights do not work at onset of driving, after switching the low beams on and off a significant number of times (20+) they will sometimes start working again (learned this after being stranded at night without ability to safely drive).
I was on the interstate and both of my taillights stop working. I was notified by another driver. I took the vehicle into the kia dealership and was told it was a light assembly problem. They claimed to have fixed it. Even after their so called fix I have t o replace taillight and headlight bulbs about every three months. The outages occur on opposite sides everytime and switch between the taillight and headlight. I have to keep extra bulbs and the needed tools available in my truck at all times. I have been issued a ticket as well due to my taillight being out. This is very costly and dangerous to family. I have two teenage children who also drive this vehicle. It seems to be a widespread problem due to the blogs that I have seen concerning this problem. Please help.
