Wiper Problems of Kia Motor Sorento - part 2

The rear camera picture has become foggy and I can't see what is behind me. There is a NHTSA campaign id 23v639000 for this problem. It covers the 2019 kia Sorento (which is my vehicle) but kia says my particular VIN number is not included in the recall. Kia needs to expand this recall to include additional VIN numbers including mine.

The paint on my 2014 kia Sorento (snow white pearl) is peeling and delaminating across multiple areas of the vehicle, including the roof and side panels. In several areas the paint has detached completely, exposing bare metal, and rust has begun forming on the roof. The condition appears to be progressively worsening and does not appear consistent with normal wear or isolated paint damage. The affected areas are available for inspection. The peeling paint may create a road or visibility hazard if pieces detach while the vehicle is in motion. In addition, the exposed metal and developing rust on the roof and upper body areas may affect long-term structural integrity over time. This appears to be a widespread issue affecting similar kia Sorento vehicles with snow white pearl paint.

The low beam headlights are very dim at night time. The inside reflective coating of the projector headlights has deteriorated over time.

This morning, I had the software upgrade patch applied to my 2020 kia Sorento that was supposed to fix the potential theft issue. After that service appointment, I started a 2 hour road trip. We stopped for gas and when we went into the store, I noticed that my car was not sounding the horn when I hit the key fob twice like normal. I went back to the car and saw that the car was in fact not locked. I was able to lock the car manually, but had I not paid attention, someone could have snuck into my unlocked car. Later in the roadtrip, I needed to clean my windshield using wiperfluid and wipers. I sprayed the wiper fluid, but to my surprise the windshield wipers did not activate. I tried all the settings on the stick to activate the wipers, but they did not activate. I was driving 70mph on a highway and could not see. This was a huge safety problem. Luckily this was momentary as the speed cleared the wiper fluid. But had it been raining, I would not have been able to see which is unsafe for me, my passengers and those around me. Third, I noticed that my headlights were not working as expected. The auto setting did not seem to be activating as normal. After playing with it, it appears that the auto and off settings on the lights seem to be switched. This is unsafe because drivers rely on that auto setting to turn the lights on when it is necessary. They may think the lights are on when they are not and are not able to be seen by other drivers. By the time I realized these things, the service department at the dealership was already closed. I have tried to leave them a voicemail, but their phone is not set up to accept that. I have sent an email and will be calling them as soon as they reopen on Monday. There are no warning messages to tell the drive about these issues.

While driving a vehicle on the highway, the sunroof exploded violently. The large, moving piece of the panoramic sunroof appears to have broken outwards. Large pieces of glass and smaller pieces landed in the front and middle of the cabin, including on the driver. Small chunks of glass landed on and cut the driver of the vehicle. A loud sound occurred. This was very startling, the glass was very dangerous, and we were lucky that no one was in the middle seats where the glass primarily fell. This occurred in a temperate (high 60s or low 70s f) climate and with no prior damage to the glass. No sign of an impact from anything on the glass. The sunroof cover was pulled back while the glass was in the closed position. The vehicle is at the dealer and we are reaching out to the manufacturer.

Backup camera and infotainment screens failed while driving 4/18/2023 . As a result this makes hands free phone usage unavailable as required by michigan law. This is also a safety concern due to distracting the driver. Date and time functions no longer available as an option of the infotaiment center. Dashes replace time kia has been aware of issue since April 2021. Has yet to resolve the issue. Refuses to respond since 2022.

I was instructed by kia to record the issues per my invoice from dealership when they had vehicle for 27 days in 2022 kia has been aware of issue since April 2021. Has yet to resolve the issue. Refuses to respond since 2022.

I purchased my kia sorrento several months ago and the windshield has chipped or cracked at least four times in that period when traveling at high speeds on the freeway. I contacted the kia dealership and kia customer service and they have not responded to my request for assistance.

2nd rear section (non-movable portion) of panoramic glass shattered while driving. No road debris is possible due to roof rack being on car which would prevent road debris or falling material. It simply shattered like temperature differential shatter.

This safety issue involves the windshield wipers. It is available for inspection upon request but must be inspected when it is snowing or freezing rain. When there is inclement weather such as temperatures dropping to create ice or wet and slushy snow, the wipers can not function correctly and you can then not see out your windshield and must drive with them stuck across the face of your windshield. The channel that holds the wipers fills with ice easily. Since the wipers on the 2022 kia Sorento must retract under the hood during normal operation, they are not able to if ice or slush has accumulated in that channel. Therefore instead, they go up and down only about 5 inches. Even if you turn them off to try to clear and break up the ice in the channel, you can not do so as they are still moving. The only way to stop them from making this 5 inch movement is to shut the vehicle off. Warming up the Sorento does not prevent this from happening. Our safety was put at risk because every time this happens, we are unable to see out the windshield clearly at all. We must pull off the road and manually wipe the windshield off which is dangerous and could cause an accident. Someone could run into us outside trying to clear the windshield, rear end our vehicle putting their lives at risk as well. The dealer today could not replicate this action, the formation of this ice, as it was above freezing. We were advised to record the action (or lack thereof) with our phone video next time it happened. The manufacturer did not see this happen. There were no warning lights. We are hesitant to drive our new awd vehicle in the snow as we could be put in a dangerous situation. This is the whole reason we bought an awd vehicle! so we could get safely around town in the winter. We are also afraid of the wiper motor burning out or having a shortened life span.

We purchased a 2022 kia Sorento in August of this year. Our front windshield from the seal to the middle of the window on the driver side has dots and they are migrating now to the passenger side as well. We took the kia to the kia dealership in princeton, wv and they opened a ticket on the vehicle and a few days later we were called and told kia recommended us to use bar keepers friend on the windshield, which is a very abrasive cleaner and using it on the inside would scratch it. We then took it down the road to safelite for a second opinion to see what they would have to say. The gentleman cleaned the windshield with a magic eraser and cleaner and the window looked great, but not even for 24 hours. We called battleground kia to ask them if it was one piece window or a two piece, which they stated there was no such thing as a two piece window which there is. We took the vehicle back down to battleground kia in greensboro, nc where we purchased the vehicle at, and were asked questions such as if we had an air freshener in the vehicle or had sprayed any kind of cleaner in the vents all which to our answers were no. Battleground kia told us that there was nothing else that they could do for our windshield. If you are driving into any kind of light it is like putting a white sheet up and you can't see anything. Having a child of our own it is dangerous to put our lives in danger or anyone else's driving with the windshield the way it is. They have refused to replace the windshield multiple times and it's brand new. It is currently in the service department for a brand new transmission as well. This makes the third time it has been in service for a transmission issue.

I have replaced my driver's side wiper blade three times and continue to get streaks in my feild of vision causing blind spots on my windsheild.

There was an instance where I was driving in heavy rain and the windshield wipers just stopped working. I had to drive about 5 more miles without them working. They worked the next time it rained a couple of days later. There has been 2 instances in the last week where I have had my car parked in my driveway off and locked. In the middle of the night, the headlights and taillights come on on there own. The headlights setting has been set to auto. I end up having to go out and start and turn off my car, then when I lock it back the lights go off.

We have a new 2022 kia Sorento. The windshield without any impacts at all cracked overnight in our garage. From lower driver corner up across to passenger side right in line of sight of driver. Kia refuses to answer there phones to remedy this problem. There are several complaints and a possibly class action suit.

Low beam headlights are so dim, si don't allow my wife to drive at night. Had dealer look at them and change bulbs with a small improvement, but after a while they have gotten so dim that even I don't like driving at night.

The vehicle is leaking water inside the car cabin. The front passenger and driver side are soaked with water. If the air conditioner comes on, it sounds like I’m boiling water. It also fogs the windows from the inside.

While driving our brand new car from dealership, a small stone must have hit. It made a 2-3 inch crack and by the time we were home it was already 12 inch crack. It had happened to me in my Audi and the only thing I could see is a small point in the windshield which I was able to fix. Googling around it seems like I am not the only one who is facing this issue and there was in fact some recall too in the past with kia cars.

We were driving and did not even hear anything hit the windshield which tells me how small the pebble or whatever it may have been was in size. Saw a small crack and within minutes it spread to about 6-7 inches long. A day later it’s spread halfway across my windshield. I have owned different cars and having this one brand new off the lot for barely 5 months - this should not have happened. This shows how weak and poorly made these windshields are by kia. Shame on them for making a poor product and then not having responsibility to fix it.

During use wipers at times will random stop in up position on windshield. Intermittent problem will start working again after toggling wiper switch.

Airbag lights remain on regardless of what’s in the passenger seat. Engine smells like burning metal when driven longer than 15minutes. Ticking noises when the steering wheel is turned. Acceleration issues vehicle lags when initially starting after being off for hours. Mechanics have looked at them kia dealership wont assist.

Headlights automatically turn off while driving.

My Sorento was purchased on 17/01/22. My windshield started cracking on the middle to the passenger’s side from the hood to the sunroof. I am unaware of how it even got there.

My vehicle (2022 kia Sorento) was purchased 11/08/21. It only has 1777 miles at this exact time. My windshield started cracking on my drivers side from the sunroof down. This is ridiculous for a vehicle so new. I've read this is a chronic issue with the tellurides. Kia refuses to do anything about it.

This is ongoing condition from delivery of vehicle. Based on car complaints already filed on car complaints. Com we believe kia knows about this problem. There is some sort of relationship of night driving and low beam headlights that causes very dark shadow on windshield that abstructs driver vision. We further assert that knowing this kia willfully adjusts headlights too high to try to conceal problem. (dealer said they were set 8" too high. But when adjusted to factory settings the problem got worse. Case number entered with kia. Now in escalation mode . . . However we live on top of a mountain with 3000 foot drops if our vision is obstructed and we miss edge of road. The headlights were adjusted back to the higher setting but we feel that will blind on coming cars still another safety danger. Kia must fix this problem. I have photos to show this limited vision night driving low beam rural road safety prob lem.

1. Abs system- anti-lock braking system sensors goes out and not working correctly reading which creates safetly hazard in preventing possible collisions 2. Lighting-interior instrument panel-light dims and or goes out completely while driving which creates saftely hazard in vehicle operation. 3. Windshield wiper system and reservior defectives- wiper motor issues and leakage from faulty tubing and reservior leakage issues.

Back up camera/infotainement screen went black while backing up twice in driveway. About 10 minutes later infotainment center restarted it's self and prompted me to verify safety while driving. Kia case manager emailed directly due to open case regarding ongoing electical issues causing accident earlier in year. Kia unable to provide rental/transportation due to "covid" and "shortages". Appointment was missed 10/30/2021 due to unavailable transportation and issues potentially taking weeks to diagnose at dealership. Kia did not arrange/approve transportation as promised.

Within a 2 month period after purchasing this vehicle, the windshield has cracked twice. First time was more understandable as a larger sized rock hit the windshield right next to the pillar on the passenger side creating a roughly 4” starburst crack. That one was replaced and 2 weeks later a tiny pebble kicked up and created a small chip on the upper corner driver side. Within about 30 seconds the chip spread halfway across the windshield. These new windshield seems to be extremely weak and falling in line with the issues the telluride had as well with the kia acoustic glass.

While driving with the headlights in the "auto" position, when a turn blinker is used the headlights will randomly turn off for about 10-15 seconds. Not much of an issue during the daytime but certainly a major safety concern at night. This problem can be replicated during the daytime by watch the dash lights switch from "auto" to "off" on the driver's dash. Moving the switch from the auto to on has no effect on the lights. This problem occurs about 30% of the time when using the turn signal.

My airbag light is just on, I have not been in any accidents or my vehicle has not been hit for the airbag light to be on. My check engine light is on as well. And back wind shield washer fluid is not coming out. When I noticed these issues my car was stationary.

Vehicle has low visibility on low beam, even with aftermarket leds there is still low visibility with the low beams, car need to be driven on high beam and it is illegal to drive with high beams as you blind cars driving on opposite direction, and a fine could be impose as well.

Right rear passenger window catastrophically exploded. Residential street approx 10mph. Breaking for stop sign. Temperature 63f. Overcast. Winds relatively high(approx 20+ mph). No sign of impact. Ive had the vehicle 7 months. Could have cause optical injury if a small passenger or child seat was in that location. Window shattered into thousands of small pieces covering 1/2 of the rear seat area. No previous damage to vehicle.

Engine burns up oil very quickly way before 3,000 miles and there are no alerts that the oil is low. Steering gets "stuck" at times for brief amounts of time and needs to be readjusted in the road. This happens on straight highways and in curve. Windshield wiper fluid function does not work.

Monitor that displays defogger & defroster is not displaying information. . . . . . . . . . This monitor is part of the vehicle's "multimedia system". . . . . . Which displays :: gps, radio channels, heating, air conditions, defrosting-defogger. . . . . I paid $700. 00 & $65. 10/05/2018 to replace this same "navigation/ multimedia system". . . . . Vehicle mileage then was 48,600. . . . This unit stopped working/ no longer displaying information January 2021. Then mileage of 87,000. . Elk grove kia said I would have to personally pay to have the multimedia system replace. The new system only lasted approximately 1 year, 6 months. . . . . I asked the kia dealership to replace or offer discount to replace this needed system. . . . . The answer was no ! I said to kia dealer that obviously the product installed was inferior. . (lasting less than a year. . . . The reply was the dealer is not responsible for the products installed in kia vehicles. I made a complaint to the bbb national programs- auto line. . .
