The steering wheel of our 2013 Soul is making a clunking sound. The vehicle only has 31,000 miles on it and from what I've read it seems to be the rack and pinion. I'm worried that I will lose steering while driving and the dealership I bought it from will not fix it even though all the optima's and kia Souls 2014-17 have been recalled. I've seen youtube videos highlighting this defect going back to 2011 so kia was obviously aware of the issue.

The steering wheel is clicking and it is getting progressively worse. 2 opinions cite the rack and pinion steering. It is acting just like the description of the 2014-2016 recalled kia Souls.

At 58,000 miles the Soul started to make a creaking sound when turning wheel sharply to right or left. I took it in to kia service at kia west in orlando. They diagnosed that rack and pinion was defective and had to be replaced = $997. 09 (including the alignment it needed afterwards) -- I know the 2013 kia Souls were recalled for safety for this very same problem and even though there are numerous complaints - kia has not recalled the 2012 kia Soul for rack and pinion defects.

Steering column making popping sound. Has some play. Is same description as those file for the 2013vto 2015 model year where the yoke nut is loose allowing the rack and pinion to seperate. Happens both during stationary and motion movement of the vehicle.

At 37,000 miles the rack and pinion broke. This disabled the clock spring which disabled the air bags. Was traveling about 25 mph and steering failed. Thank god I was not on expressway going 55mph or when the rack and pinion broke my steering ability would have been lost and no air bags deployed in the event of a crash. Vehicle towed to kia and rack and pinion replaced. I have another 2014 kia Soul and I worry the same thing may happen to it. Kia told me that this is not a common problem and was a part failure.

The contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. While driving approximately 25 mph, the power steering failed without warning. The contact pulled over and placed the vehicle in park.
