Wiring Problems of Kia Motor Soul

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving about 35 mph, the contact noticed smoke from the radio without warning. . The vehicle was taken to the bill Dodge kia dealer (877-583-6175, located at 3 saunders way, westbrook, me 04092) where it was diagnosed that there was a shortage in the wiring harness. One or both of the head lights will only intermittently work, while driving or stationary. While driving head lights can flicker. Multi function switch was changed, this did not solve problem. Appears to be a problem with the head lamp wiring harness, which melts the connector. Others also have this issue.

Tl-the contact owns 2014 kia Soul. The contact stated that the head lights flickers. The contact took the vehicle to the mechananic to have the headligts inspected and the mechanic found that the wiring harness area overheat and melted the wires plastic cover and caused the wires to flicker. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not taken to a delaer. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. Li.

The air and heat stopped working altogether. I took it to arapahoe kia in centennial, CO. They told me the blower motor had failed. I had another shop look at it and they told me the wiring to the blower motor had completely melted. It looks like there was a short that lit the wires on fire. Luckily, it did not ignite the whole car like some other cases.

The contact owned a 2013 kia Soul. The contact's wife informed him of an abnormal odor on the outside of the vehicle. Approximately 45 minutes later, the vehicle caught on fire. The fire department was called and extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed and the fire marshall diagnosed that the wiring in front of the engine compartment caused the fire. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was destroyed by the fire. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was notified, but did not assist. The failure mileage was 45,000.

Wiring connector connected to the radiator fan assembly melted. I had replaced the radiator fan assembly a year earlier to its failure. Upon the repair shop I took my car to calling the dealer, it was mentioned this is a common problem by the dealer. The melting of this connector caused the engine to start over heating and the a/c to no longer cool. Dealer mentioned that the connector is not available and it would take replacing the whole electrical harness. The car only has about 65,000 miles on it.

Kia uses soy based coating/insulation on all their wiring & hoses, making it susceptible to being damaged by rodents. The windshield washer hose on mine was damaged due to rodents. After doing more research online other people have complained about more important components being damaged by rodents as well, and kia stating it was not covered under the manufactures warranty, and/or it wasn't their fault. My car was damaged by these rodents while sitting parked in the parking lot of my apartment building.

My son was in a rear-end collison in his 2015 kia Soul, that also pushed him into the person in front of him. My son was at a stop as well as the vehicle in front of him, when a mid sized SUV doing approximately 30-40mph slammed on her brakes and rear ended my son. The Soul's bumper went underneath the chevy tahoe in front of him. The airbags did not deploy. When police and ems showed up and asked him if he could drive it off the road, the vehicle started, but accelerator would not work. They pushed it off the road. After towing to the body shop, the owner said he didn't know why the airbags hadn't deployed because the electrical wiring harness had been severed in the crash. The towing company was hesitant to tow because he was afraid it may go off. The Soul had an estimate of $15,753. 75 in damage and therefore totaled. . . But his airbags never went off.

The technician stated that the wiring coding was soy based and that animals were eating the wires, in result the wiring harness and the emission wiring needed to be replaced. The contact mentioned the same soy based coding wiring was used. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact owned a 2011 kia Soul. The contact stated that the driver was driving 5 mph when she crashed into another vehicle. The driver exited the vehicle and the vehicle engulfed in flames. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an insurance company lot. The insurance company determined that the fire was not a result of the crash, but rather the result of defective wiring. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 5,000. The VIN was unavailable.

Daughter was driving car on side street when she noticed smoke and then fire coming from passenger side speaker/light area. She was fortunately not hurt and was assisted by bystander in putting out fire. Inside of door around speaker melted. Appears to be same problem that kia recalled 2010 kia for (ref 10v388000 Aug 30 2010). Car was supposedly fixed under recall no. 10v388000 at fullerton kia (no longer in business at the fullerton location). To date kia has accepted no responsibility for the problem. I want to make sure that cause is investigated before car is repaired, and reason is destroyed as it appears recall fix was unsuccessful and there may be 1000's of cars on the road with same problem.
