"takata recall" nothing new, same as this and many other complaints . . . Component(s): fuel system, gasoline fumes, air bags light stays on, hold light stays on, rust underneath the car, windows dont work, only back left door opens, ac dont work, will run hot if on. Consumer location: California all products associated with this complaint expand details close help manufacturer: Kia Motors America summary: there is a very strong raw gas smell that permeates the cabin and outside the vehicle. It is very noticeable upon starting and when the vehicle is at rest and running. I have taken this vehicle to numerous mechanics to include the local kia dealer to resolve the problem - new fuel filter, exhaust, etc. With no positive results. A search of the internet turned up a very common problem with the 99-02 Sportage gas tanks leaking due corrosion caused by poor design/material. I am filing this complaint in hopes that the NHTSA will conduct an investigation and recall of this make/model/yr vehicle to correct this very serious problem. This car has not been driven for over a yr.

13 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

This is my 82 year old mother in law car she says the air bag light keeps coming on and staying on so she took it to the dealer they charged her $150. 00 to look at it. This was on Nov 4 2014 the car had only 57047 miles on it. So in March it started doing it again so on March 27 2015 she goes to the dealer this time they didn't charge her but told her it would cost $2,600. 00 dollars to fix. The car only has 59312 miles on it. She is freaked out scared to drive her car and is on fixed income. The two codes they found were (b1489 OCS matt defect) and (b1495 belt tension sensor). My son says he thinks that the kia rio had the same problem and got recalled. I will give my info not my mothers thank you.

14 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 08/30/2014

The airbag light has come on twice in the past year. The dealer resets the code/light and claims I need to have the passenger seat replaced for approx. $2,000! there are other 2006 kia models that have been recalled for faulty passenger seats but not the Sportage. My families safety is being compromised and this is a known issue that should have a recall. I shouldn't have to pay out of my own pocket to repair a faulty safety item. If it's a big enough issue to have a repair bulletin issued it should be recalled immediately.

15 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

Air bag light came on for know reason. To it to the dealer charged me$100 to "look at it". The repair would cost $2500. Can't afford to fix it, appears many others have the same problem.

In addition the front passenger seat sensor and an occupant is occupying the seat, the air bag light will intermittently turn off and on. The contact took his vehicle to the dealer. The dealer stated seat belt tensional sensor , and various other unknown sensors. The dealer also mention that the passenger air bag light was up to code and it was normal for the light to intermittently turn off and on if the occupant was moving in the seat. The vehicle was repaired. However the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 31,400. Az.

17 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

My kia Sportage air bag light on the driver side won't come on for a few seconds. It won't come on at all. I have read other people complaints about their air bag light. There is a problem and it needs to be recalled. Kia dealership need to stop putting it on the owners expense. My husband spoke to someone at the kia dealership concerning the air bag light and he was told they need to put it on a machine to analyst the problem. I'm sure they already know about this problem ? to analyst it is going to cost us some money. Why ???.

18 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 07/29/2013

Air bag light stays on! took the car to my mechanic to "fix it" for $72, and only two weeks later, the light went on again. I was told to pull on and jiggle the passengers seat belt to make it go off, however, that doesn't work. Do I want to spend another $72 to "fix it"? the cost to replace the sensor would be approximately $435. When the air bag light is illuminated, the big risk is that the air bags will not respond in an accident.

19 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

I was driving the vehicle when the air bag light came on and stayed on. I made an appointment with the dealer to have it corrected. They performed a diagnostic test and told me that it might be a sensor they then reset the airbag light. A few days later the same thing happened. The air bag light has come on and has stayed on. From what I have gathered this seems to be a common problem with kias. The biggest problem is the cost to having this repaired.

20 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The air bag light started blinking, then stayed lit. I took my car to kia dealer and had diagnostic. The cost was $60. They found that front seat passenger seat had an error code. I was told that the sensor for front seat would have to be replaced. When I left dealer the light for air bag was off, but came back on a week later. Air bag light is still on.

21 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 06/11/2013

Airbag light has come on several times and each time I have taken the vehicle to the dealership for repair. They have replaced the seat bottom and even rewired the car, but the airbag continues to come on and stays on. Due to the ongoing issue, dates and mileage are estimates and do not necessarily reflect the first date of the original issue.

22 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 06/05/2013

The airbag light is suddenly on while driving. Turning off the engine and turning it on back, the light is still on. It happened before about 4 years ago, and had the whole passenger belt replaced, based on the shop recommendation. Now the light is on again, for no reason. Based on the number of complaints/cases found through searching the internet, kia should make a recall and fix it. It is unsafe to drive with the airbag light on and it is expensive to have it fix. The dealer can not guaranty that changing the belt/sensor etc will fix it, which translates the cost will only keep increasing until it's fixed.

23 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

Air bag light came on and has remained on every since. No accidents involved. Based on another complaint I seen, must be a factory fault.

24 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 02/27/2013

Started the vehicle one evening and the drivers side air bag light came on. There were no accidents or anything of that nature. I just purchased this vehicle about 3 weeks ago and carfax guaranteed no accidents. No one is sure how it came on or what to do to turn it off.

25 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 01/09/2013

The drivers side air bag light started blinking and then came on constant. Took to dealer and they were not sure what would fix it. They reset light and it stayed off until passenger raised up to get something off dash and passenger air bag light came on and then the drivers light came on and stayed on again. I have researched and found that in Jan the optima and rio had total recalls for the same problem but they did not include the Sportage. I believe from website research that this is a looming large scale problem with kia's air bag system especially in the 2006 models. I would like to see a recall since this is an astronomical cost to have repaired and the dealers won't guarantee the repairs since so far the repairs don't fix or keep fixed the faulty system. If all repairs are done that were explained to me then just getting them "possible" repaired could cost as much as $5000. 00 total. Please issue a demand for recall on the 2006 kia Sportage.

26 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 10/21/2012

I was parked in a parking lot at a grocery store inside shopping and came out to find my vehicle was hit in the rear bumper and the other driver drove off without leaving there information. I got in the car and started it noticed that my air bag light came on and did not go off.

27 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 03/03/2012

Air bag lights will not turn off when driver and/or passenger are seated in the vehicle.

28 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

Prior complaint filed for airbag light/sensor. My airbag light came on, went to the dealer, they tried to reset the light, it would not go off. Many complaints on the 2006 Sportage airbag light & possible failure have been recorded with no safety recall, despite that kia recalled a number of other 2006 kia models for airbag failure. I do not know if my airbag will work. Told by dealer that I needed to replace my front seats both driver and passenger for a couple thousand dollars, however, dealer stated they would guarantee that after replacement of the car seats that the airbag problem would be fixed. Numerous complaints about the 2006 Sportage airbag problem have been documented including accidents where the airbag has not worked and people have been injured. If kia can fix the airbag problem in other 2006 models why not the 2006 Sportage - my safety is just as important as the folks with other 2006 kia models. The dealer will not guarantee repair/safety.

29 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 10/15/2011

Vehicle has never been in a crash. Airbag light came on when I got into my car and stayed on. I took the car to my mechanic a day or two later. They cleared code and reset the system. Airbag light came on again a few days later. Took the car back to my mechanic. They researched problem and determined the issue to be with the passenger side belt tension sensor and that this had caused the airbags to deactivate. Mechanic told me to take the car to kia because it was a safety issue and should be under lifetime warranty. Kia would not cover the repair because I have over 60,000 miles on my car. I went back to my mechanic and had them replace the belt tension sensor - part was almost $400. Mechanic said that according to kia specifications, if this doesn't fix the problem, the driver's airbag module would have to be replaced. If that doesn't fix it, the entire srs unit would have to be replaced. Mechanic indicated that there is no way to test to figure out specifically which part is faulty. In the meantime, I'm not sure if my airbags are working or not. This seems to be a common problem with the 2006 kia Sportage. Unfortunately, many people just continue to drive with the airbag light on, most likely unaware that their airbags are no longer activated and would not deploy in a crash.

30 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 04/11/2011

The airbag light turns on when someone is seated in the front passenger seat and does not turn off. This disengages the front airbags. The kia dealership has re-set the computer several times, but claims it is a bad sensor in the seat. The entire seat must be replaced.

31 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2001 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 07/05/2010

Used car dealer sold a car with electrical problems on 7/3/10. July 5, 2010, they fixed the back 2 windows causing car alarm to go off when you get in and when you get out, they disabled the car alarm now causing the air bag light to be on all the time, the door don't sound when you open it, the locks don't work the way they should, doom light don't work seat belt don't sound to remind you to put them on. Should you drive a vehicle when air bag light is on?.

32 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 03/29/2010

I had this issue multiple times. And the dealer couldn't find the problem so they only delete the error. The firs issue is the passenger air bag (airbag light error) the error seems to be the sensor inside the seat. . And the second error the speedometer is not showing the correct speed. The speedometer is reading about 5 mile off.

33 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 02/02/2010

Since 2010 I have had an issue with my airbag light coming on. I was well within warranty when this began with mileage at 35,736. The dealership has repaired it multiple times; replaced buckle tensors, replaced seat, harness, reran the codes, etc. To date, it is still not corrected after multiple attempt. I recently received a letter from kia corporation offering a final settlement to correct this issue. However, they would not answer my question in writing on whether or not this final fix would would work and if they would warranty this fix. I asked the dealership if the airbags would deploy upon accident. They said they do not know for sure, but it is likely they will not deploy. My airbag light is on again after the most recent repair which replaced the seat. I have paid for a majority of these fixed. Most important to me is our safety. Cannot afford to buy another car and with the airbag light on I am afraid trade in value would be reduced. In 2012 kia recalled almost 150,000 optimas and rondos for airbag issues. I respectfully ask that you consider the kia Sportage airbag for recall.

34 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

2006 kia Sportage. Consumer writes in regards to malfunction of airbag light. The consumer was informed the connections were bad, which caused the air bag light to illuminated. The cruise control stopped working, the esc light illuminated, and the radiator cover was broken.

35 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 04/12/2009

Both drive and passenger airbag lights were lit. This occurred 5 times, all of which I was told by the dealership was "fixed. " the sixth time the dealership had my car for 72 hours, claimed to "be fixed" yet again, once both seats were supposedly replaced. Within 2 weeks both lights came back on. The lights are on, yet again, for the seventh time. . . I am consulting an attorney!.
