Front Air Bag Problems of Kia Motor Sportage - part 1

My wife was driving down the road and her air bags deployed, after talking to kia they stated that the Sportage had over 100,000 miles and they have nothing to do with it.

On 10/16/08 at approx. 7:20a I was t-boned in the drivers side door and back passenger door by a Ford f250 red pickup truck as I was traveling up the street doing about 35-40 mph. He was pulling out of his subdivision onto the street and his passenger side window was fogged up so he did not see me coming.

I was in auto accident and my car rolled and my body (even though I was wearing a seatbelt) was thrown around and my sternum was severely injured - hairline fracture. None of my airbags deployed. Not the front or the sides.

: the contact stated while driving 30 mph the frontal air bags deployed without prior warning. There were no obvious road hazards or crash. There were no previous problems with the airbags. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer. The dealer was unable to determine why the air bags deployed. No injuries were sustained.

The air bags deployed while the consumer was sitting in a parking lot. The manufacturer stated they needed to inspect the vehicle, however no assistance with the towing would be provided. The vehicle was in the park position when the failure occurred.

Consumer was driving when the driver's airbags deployed vehicle was towed to the dealer. Manufacturer was supposed to inspect the vehicle. However they never came to inspect. Manufacturer offered to replace the deductible.

While driving at 40 mph consumer's vehicle was hit on the front passenger's side by a vehicle going 55 mph. Upon impact, none of the frontal air bags deployed. Driver sustained a broken angle, a sprained wrist, and possible head injuries.

Upon impact air bags deployed with such force that the under frame of the dashboard detached from the body of the vehicle. When this occurred, it broke an occupant's ankle and foot. Dealer indicated it was not his problem, and urged consumer to call the manufacturer.

Consumer's vehicle was involved in a frontal collision while traveling approximately 65mph, and neither front driver's/ passenger's or "knee" air bags deployed.

The consumer lost control of vehicle while driving 60-65 mph. The vehicle hit a embankment and flipped over three times and none of the air bags deployed. The consumer was transported by ambulance to the local hospital due to injuries to the head and body.

I was stopped behind two cars waiting to make a left hand turn. I was rearended by a man going approximately 50mph at impact, I was slammed in to the person in front of me, and she hit the person in front of her knocking that SUV in to on coming traffic. All four cars were totalled and everyone's airbags went off except for mine. My face took out the visor and hit the steering wheel. The front seats reclined at impact as well.

While traveling about 55mph on the highway. Without prior warning a deer ran in front of the vehicle. The consumer hit the deer. The dual airbags didn't deploy please provide additional information. Ts.

Was traveling about 35 mph. Two vehicles in front of me collided and then both slid into me head on. Damage to my vehicle was in excess of $5,000. Neither air bag deployed. Driver and front passenger sustained minor soft tissue injuries.

Consumer states that while traveling at 40 mph, consumer hit a deer on the front passenger side of vehicle. Consumer states further down the road hit another deer on drivers side and none of the airbags deployed. Please provide any further information.

While traveling at 35 mph, another driver lost control of vehicle and hit consumer's vehicle head-on. Consumer's vehicle spinned, and hit rear of the other vehicle, landing on a medium in the road. None of the airbags deployed. Consumer felt if there was a passenger, he/she could have been killed. Please provide any further information.

Front collision at 6 mph, impact was on front right. Neither airbag deployed, damage to vehicle was $ 6500. 00, consumer suffered light injuries.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at 40 mph with a light pole and neither air bag deployed. Dealer and manufacturer were not notified at this time. Manufacturer had notified at this time.

Consumer was traveling about 15mph and coming off the off ramp on the highway, another vehicle was coming towards the consumer and collided with consumer's vehicle. Upon impact, airbags did not go off. Dealership was aware of problem. One person was injured in the accident.

Consumer was traveling about 60mph on highway and vehicle skidded on some black ice into metal rail. Then, spinned and swerved three or more times, and then stopped. Upon impact, airbags didn't go off at all.

Air bags deployed inadvertently while parked. Dealer has been notified. Consumer stated that while sitting in the vehicle keys not in ignition, the airbag deployed and caused injury on her face and legs.

Front driver and passenger airbags, failed to deploy after consumer was involved in a roll over crash. Dealer has yet to be contatced. Please provide further details.

While driving at 10-15 mph, front of the vehicle was hit and none of the air bags deployed. Contacted dealer. Consumer adds the brakes failed. The transmission failed. Experiencing problems with the accelerator.

While driving at 10-15 mph applied brakes and without warning, brakes did not function, driver had to run a red light, resulting in a head on collision, driver sustained major leg injuries. Consumer states that the airbag failed. Consumer also states that the accelerator and transmission stuck.

While traveling at 55 to 60 mph another vehicle suddenly stopped, causing a chain reaction of accidents. Consumer's vehicle front/ rear end, and sidways was hit. None of front airbags deployed. Please provide any further informati0n.

Consumer was traveling about 40mph on highway and was going south bound. She saw a truck that was in the process of making a left turn. Went onto the shoulders with dirt kicking up. Gravel went into consumer vehicle tires, and gravel pulled vehicle to the right. She hit a fence and a light pole. Upon impact, dual airbags didn't deploy. Vehicle was totaled.

While traveling 30 mph vehicle went into a skid and struck an object head-on, and neither airbag deployed.

While driving about 35 mph lost control of vehicle due to a frozen spot. Crashed vehicle into a guardrail, and neither air bag deployed. The seat belt failed.

Consumer was traveling about 22mph on a side road. There were vehicles parked ahead of her vehicle. Consumer applied brakes, and vehicle slid into them. Upon impact, airbags went off, driver and passenger were hurt.

While driving on county road an animal ran out in front of vehicle, it swerved to avoid hitting the animal. Road was wet. Went into a ditch, and neither airbag deployed.

I was involved in an accident at the speed of 40 mph and the air bag did not inflate. The impact between my chest and the steering wheel left me with bruised ribs. I am very appreciative that the accident or the injury was not severe. If you can look into a couple of my concerns, 1) at which speed should the air bag deploy, 2) if it was to deploy at 40mph then what should be my next step towards kia to verify that this doesn't happen to any one again.

While vehicle was at a stop it was hit in the front by the side of another vehicle. Upon impact, there was no deployment of the front air bags. Vehicle has been repaired. Please provide any further information.

Consumer was traveling about 40 mph on highway and another vehicle veered into her vehicle, causing an accident. Upon impact, frontal airbags didn't go off. There were slight injuries.

Vehicle experienced the following problems: 1. ) dealer replaced passenger's air bag due to an electrical short; 2. ) front axle failed, causing vehicle to jerk while making a full left turn/ replaced by dealer, and 3. ) front right tire was replaced because of a bubble on tire.

While driving at 45 mph vehicle rolled over three to four times, and none of the air bags deployed.
